they have been changing it up, they set up hughes for a one timer, unfortunately he only has a ok shot. my favorite plays is when they pass it to boeser then miller then feed horvat for a onetimer in the slot. i believe sometimes they need boeser to walk up to the point and feed a moving hughes so he can make plays down low or pass back to boeser and feed miller a one timer. hughes is the key imo

i dont believe in a true buffalo or edmonton rebuild but i do agree that we made a few too many gudbranson type trades, some are ok because you never know, but believe we pulled the trigger on those types of trades too early. 2015 everyone knew what the rock was cooking, i think aquilini just thought he ccould buy his way out of it. and benning? why did he sign all those defensive players because i think he was trying to build a d powerhouse like boston, but as he was doing that the nhl changed. d is not king anymore, its speed,skill and size

yes!!! i dont think we got players as good as carolina but, young players like ours shouldnt be playing so passively, and there is much ice we dont utilize on the pp. the best PP'S have players ripping through defenders zone's drawing pk's out of position. honestly our pp looks like a cpu player from nhl 21. there have been a few times we have played more aggresively and we get more chances. the PP is not a time to be safe.

this is the true culprit to our demise, more than benning more than green. dude just cheaped out and linden should never have been fired. this was bennings first job and he needed someone to bounce ideas off. Linden deserved better.

other than motte,miller,horvat,petterson,hughes,hoglander we have no play drivers everyone else is north to south players. we are also in need of a real playmaker other than hughes and petterson, maybe hoglander or podkolzin can be those players.

i see it as we need a improvement on our third and 4th line actually. besides edler they haven't been that bad considering the circumstances. hughes should have a true top 2 defenceman to play with, but not schmidt someone bigger like hamilton. if we could sign hamilton and trade schmidt or myers i would do that in a heartbeat. it would probably mean running two d under a mill but that is probably fine.

as for our defence i have spent a lot of time analyzing thier play 5on5. schmidt generally improves every other defenders stats. if it wasn't for his defensive lapses hughes would be our best 5on5 player when he is on the ice our team gets the majority of shots. I defend myers play because he plays on the bottom pairing and gets extra minutes because of his double shifting, also he spent the most minutes with the third and 4th lines out of every defenceman. I have suggested that myers and hughes would be a good pairing, just for the reason that they could have shorter but more shifts. keep them from getting tired. i would rank our defenceman 5v5 like this schmidt myers hamonic hughes edler

your right hughes isn't our worst defenceman but he is 5 on5, the passive collapsing system is the hardest on a dman as small as hughes. the main idea is to keep the net clear. remember ovechkin played limited minutes 5 on 5 before he smartened up. i remember him getting 13 minutes a night

i remember a rumour that aquilini is looking to have the cheapest coaching staff in the nhl. i wonder how anyone would know that though.

i dont think anyone will argue with this, the last 9 games hughes needed less time maybe even 15-16 minutes, or at least a day off. but green and hughes want to win so bad they have blinders on.

i don't like it either, but if his value drops to like 5 million thats good right? or does he demand a trade?

we have to lose to get better, realistically we have only been on the down fall since sedins left. we are likely going to trade some of our stars for picks in 4-5 years and rebuild again. honestly we should probably consider a mini rebuild depending on how next season turns out. after podkolzin, we have no major impact players coming in

if we signed perfect ufa's we still wouldn't be a cup contender. it would just mean we would pik 20th overall for 3 or 4 years

no one is ok with losing, the people that defend players coaches or gms do so because we don't believe it's as bad as people make it out to be. many of us will defend people even if we think a change is due, especially if people cuss people out.
