I said this a while back when the Demko trade rumours were out, that Byfield did not have a high hockey IQ.  This stat pretty much proves that.  I don't think he will ever be a top line player in the NHL...

i remember when scouts were comparing him to kopitar/joe thornton LOL

those first two picks in 2020 aren't looking so pretty at the moment.

stutzle is the real deal though.

Meanwhile in Vancouver, we still have maroon seats and no practice facilty.  The only other team without their own practice rink?  Calgary.

    https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/practice-facility-seems-long-way-off

Vancouver's one of the richest cities in Canada and the Canucks are it's biggest sports team so it's actually quite surprising thinking about it now.

I think there was news recently about them "testing out" a few blue-coloured seats so hopefully they make the full transition soon. Would look absolutely beautiful in that arena.

If we're going to return to the playoffs in the future, might as well return in some style no?

He failed with that team because they were the undisputed REGULAR SEASON champs and thats it. They didn't have what was needed to win more then that. They had a couple of good pieces but they didn't go to war together.

What exactly did Benning do? Should we be talking about the stick boys on championship teams too?

The Country Club has been here for a very long time and Torts was never going to teach them anything because the leadership did not back him up.

This group IS backing up their coaches. Big difference.

lol. Do you have a problem with comprehension? You've literally proved my point over and over.

You're the one that said we can trust this current management because they are former cup winners. I pointed out Benning being an example of a former cup-winner that still failed for this team despite his pedigree of "having a ring" and he was literally the President and GM of this team.

Yeah exactly. What did he do?

Also, I'll wait until next year to confirm whether this team is actually "backing up" their coaches.

Not sure if you have short term memory but at this point last year people were saying that the players love Bruce and they fight hard for him. This year, all we heard was "they gave up on the coach", "they're mentally weak", and "they lack motivation".

We'll see what happens, but you do you pal.

Do players and coaches who won cups grow on trees?

No, but Tocchet's head coaching record shows that it doesn't matter like I said.

Irrelevant? Torts had a plan, the team had their own thoughts. How did that work out for them?

My apologies, I meant the two who spent more then a year here. Green and good ol' Willy D.

Mr. Horvat was the leader of the Country Club so that may explain things.

Thats why I said patience, these guys are starting to transform this team, and the minor league team as well. Since when did we here that before? and a practice rink? Like I said, these guys know whats needed to bring us a championship.

uh yeah? irrelevant. I pointed out that Torts' pedigree was irrelevant because he ultimately failed with the team. Jim Benning was part of cup winning management group, came here for 8 years and he failed too. For whatever reason, "country club" and all that nonsense. The result is the same. Failure.

"The team had their own thoughts"? You pretty much proved my point here.

It's irrelevant if the management/coach "has a ring" if the team the team "has their own thoughts" and doesn't follow suit with their philosophies and plans.

Ending again with the point from my last post, we will see.

You can nitpick all you like they have rings so they have been involved in a team that know how to win, our last two coaches didn't even have NHL experience. Torts tried to coach the "Country Club" and they quit playing for him. Thats not on him thats a team not willing to put in the work to win. This management team and coaching staff know how to win and thats all that matters, my concern is do we have the players. That remains to be seen.

    That's irrelevant.

You're mentioning pedigree and Torts won a cup as a head coach so he technically should "know how to win".

Jim Benning also won a ring so he was also involved in a team that "knew how to win".

Huh? Our last two coaches? Boudreau is the second winningest head coach in NHL history. TG had no experience.

Yeah it's impressive when so and so has this much experience, but it won't mean anything if that can't be replicated where they're at now.

Also, you said the players quit playing for the coach during Torts' era.

Lacking motivation? Mentally weak? why does that sound so familiar with this group of players and the complaints from early on in the season?

I personally don't care if you've won a cup before with whoever, it doesn't mean anything if you can't do it here.

But I agree with your last point. Whether we have the right personnel and the correct and an actual effective plan from management remains to be seen.

Don't forget Tocchet, Gonchar and Foote all earned their own Cup rings.

?? Gonchar and Foote earned their rings as players... Tocchet benefitted off prime Crosby/Malkin and was amongst a few other Assistant coaches who also earned rings.

I like Tocchet and yeah he has a ring. But if you're going to mention that, then mention how he also has quite the losing record for all the other teams he actually head coached for. lol

In that case, Jim Benning also earned his cup ring as an executive. How did that turn out?

We've had Torts who was a cup winning coach too. What did that result in?

Likewise. Not convinced that he's really the guy for the job. He was, in fact, the guy who said that the defense was good enough to be competitive, and he was horrifically wrong on that front. Who does he intend to pair with Hughes next season? How long does he intend to go on with a patchwork top 4? How much does he think Foote can compensate for?

I find it extremely frustrating that it's been years and we haven't found legit pieces to that puzzle.

Yeah, ok. We got Hronek. What else? He's not the be all, end all to finding solutions for our defence.

We'll need to wait and see how the offseason + draft unfolds but so far I'm not too happy at least with what he said.

He also makes it sound like making it to the playoffs is the goal as in the end goal. Making it in is nice but I'd rather have a team that could potentially make a run at the cup.

Not a team just good enough to squeak into the playoffs.

So far management has been making it sound like they just need to add some pieces capable enough to squeak in to the playoffs. Likely true but you're still settling for mediocrity.

If so, then that's pretty pathetic and I think management should be canned for a group with further aspirations.

  8. Not really convinced with what Allvin had to say. At all actually.

"We were only 6 wins out of the playoffs". That stood out to me.

Echoed a lot of a similar sentiment last year and shows that they might be in over their heads a little bit.

We still have lots of weaknesses on this team's defence and inconsistent play.

I hope it's just what he said and they actually do look at the bigger picture this time.

We failed big time because they didn't see the bigger picture and JR famously said he originally thought it would be a "minor surgery" that is actually a "major surgery".

The major surgery isn't over lol. If management thinks that then I can see a lot of the same frustration and failures repeating itself again.

Just finished watching the 3rd group. That was cringe worthy. Our media is ass, say it every year and somehow it gets worse every year. Why was Pear even there? I love him and I defended that contract. But he was fed to the wolves by being out there. Someone should have stepped in and shut down the questions when he was asked the same thing like 3 times. It was clear there was a narrative the media was pushing.

The media in this city is absolute garbage.

Toxic and scummy a lot of them

Petey hates this stuff, and it shows.

I hate that he has to do this....he's not a spokesman, he's a superstar. And I'm quite happy to leave him as such and not force him to giving answers he's uncomfortable with.

JT's a natural in this role, and clearly equipped to handle it best.

Maybe Petey isn't right for the Captain's role after all.

Not a knock on him at all but some people just aren't suited for that type of pressure and being the spokesperson for the team.
