  1. Not really related to this game specifically but I'm honestly sick of this team constantly being at the bottom.

A rebuild would mean more time at the bottom and there's no guarantee a rebuild even succeeds. Look at PHX, look at BUF.

How much longer is everyone willing to be miserable?

If (and that's a big IF) a rebuild were to actually succeed, you also need a lot of good fortune and the proper management/ownership in place that has that long term vision set without going off course. You also need an ownership that will be fully onboard.

It's very f**king clear ownership will not let a proper rebuild happen.

I only started taking this management seriously the month leading up to the trade deadline when they started with the Bo trade and ended off with the Hronek acquisition.

JR and PA showed that when they actually go to work (it took them a while) they are aggressive. They got that elite, young RHD that Benning couldn't do ever since Tanev left (Schmidt was a fail).

If management can really actually do this and a retool helps us finally compete after years and years of misery then let's f**king go.

I'm willing to give them more of a chance and seeing what they can do from here on out (in the offseason).

One can only assume, management had to make the choice to go with either Horvat or Miller early on. They would have been relatively certain which way they wanted

to go. Judging from some on Horvat's pressers this year, he knew he'd be moving on. I think deep down, he wanted to. I don't mind the way it ended up.

Under new management, we have seen positive moves that obviously have been well thought out. Not the obsessive "Gotta get my guy" ones form the previous regime.

Ones that will be costing us for years yet.

Hmm what gave you that impression? I'm genuinely curious.

I never really got the feeling that he wanted to move on from this team specifically, but he did want to get paid whether it was by this team or not.

I said this last week, I'll say it again... JT Miller making a statement about his leadership.

Not that Elias Pettersson has been any kind of a slouch but JT is definitely stepping up.

About the game... definitely a great effort by the team.

But to qualify that statement... it was a great effort in the service on a meaningless result.

It is now time to sit Demko, play Delia and reduce the ice time of Hughes, Pettersson and JT Miller.

Someone is going to get injured if Tocchet continues to play his top guys at this relentless rate... and it will be for a meaningless season.

Time to dial it back and relax.

team tank would probably love this but its not happening.

if anything, maybe in the last 10 to 5 games of the season they'd sit demko to try out the rookies

We'll see what happens. They actually have to get off to a good start for once, have a good home record. Not go on huge losing streaks and show what they are learning now can be carried over to next year. Again this year really means nothing for next year. It never has amounted to much even though people say it will. They aren't even really using it as an assessment period. Podz and Kravtsov only getting 8 minutes a night.

you have every right to have your doubts.

now, a lot of what transpires next season (especially from early on) lingers on what management does or doesn't do in the offseason.

JR and PA admitted they didn't know how large the task would be, but after dozing off for half a season and just taking shots at the ex-coach through interviews, they finally seem to have stepped up to the plate.

Ever since the infamous "major surgery" remarks and throughout the month leading up to trade deadline, they have been making moves that you could call "retool" moves (like they said they were gonna do).

Since they've been showing that, I'm giving them more of a benefit of the doubt to see how they tackle the offseason.

How did Tampa, to build the Cup winners, fill their holes on D? They drafted Hedman and filled in all the other D via trade and free agency. We drafted Hughes, and just added Hronek via trade. Our core is still very early on in their careers. No reason why we can’t fill the supporting roles via more trades and free agent signings.

Like I said, if we can actually manage to do that amidst our cap issues then ofc I would be all for it.

We still have major holes on defence even with Hronek (he's not our be all, end all). We need to add two more solid, legit top 4 pieces. We also have those cap issues as already mentioned.

We'll also need to see how much longer Miller (2-3 more years?) will even be an effective player when that 8 million dollar No trade clause kicks in.

    ..and so on.

What I was mentioning was simply why some fans might've been at least hopeful for the chance to draft a lottery pick amidst a clown show of a non-playoff season extending back to last year. This team hadn't caught a break in the last decade.

Maybe people could've thought there might be at least a time where they did catch a break this year.

I do appreciate your outlook though.

I think you would be best cheering for another team. If you think we were going to get Bedard even at our lowest point over Columbus or Chicago you’re dead wrong if we do then players want out contract or not.

Sounds like you need a dose of reality and that you’re more of the problem than the solution. The thought of you losing your cool the rest of the season when we win more games actually gives me a great deal of pleasure so enjoy being miserable my dude or dudette.

Dose of reality? lol. A lot of fans have already been facing that dose of reality. In fact, you should've woken up and realized too as this has been going on for the past two years.

That reality is that this is at best a middle of the pack team with huge holes in the defence and up against the cap.

If voicing your opinion and showing your frustration means that you become a problem for this team? That shows a lot about how you operate.  Why do you think a lot of this fanbase is frustrated? Yet your answer is "be happy or get out".

This isn't some cult. It's a fanbase filled with differing opinions.

If you are complacent and satisfied with mediocrity and all you need is to see "players smiling" and not "breaking sticks on the ice". You do you bud.

You oughta wake up and realize that not everyone will think the same way or needs to think the same way that you do.

As I said, of course no one can control the outcome of how the team plays and what results in a draft order for example.

I also said that because of what fans of this team has gone through for near a decade, and specifically these past two seasons, is how you could see why some fans might not be so happy.

My only wish is for this team to be a contender. Not a "maybe, maybe not" wildcard team.

JR and PA admittedly said that they underestimated the task and really did f*** all during the first half of their arrival.

I will say that if they can turn this ship around by drastically changing this team in the summer (free up cap space, supplement our defensive holes..etc) then at least there will be more reassurance for all fans. We'll see what happens.

Everyone upset needs to just look at the schedule. We started the season on the road forever and it’s a very favourable one from here on out.

We will win more than lose and it’s nice to see the guys look like they are having some fun again, you see more smiles than broken sticks and eyes rolling. It looks like the culture is better and guys can just play and relax now that the TDL has come and gone.

We are dressing a lot of AHL players and they are filling in well, it’s a good thing and it looks like we might have some young depth on the team and in the system that can play NHL minutes.

Emrace it as everyone thought we were a team competing for a wildcard spot, bottom 5 when our stars are healthy just wasn’t going to happen.

There's nothing that can be done about how the team ends up performing at certain moments of the season, but people that were on team tank have reason to be upset.

The only saving grace for fans these past 2 seasons was the fact that the players were "smiling again" and "having fun again". Is this pee-wee hockey? They're professional athletes. They get paid millions of dollars to go out and perform. How much do we have to baby them?

Literally the same exact thing happened when bruce boudreau was here.."players smiling", "confidence", "the culture is better". All that good stuff.

    Deja Vu?

Look at what resulted the following season. Where did all the positive vibes go?

Every team goes through injuries. Teams with enough proper depth are able to somewhat maintain their pace rather than fall off a cliff like us. From making the playoffs to bottom 5? And we're up against the cap? That should tell you more than enough.

Why do you think that in a year when there's a kid from North Vancouver who's literally broken McDavid records that fans wouldn't be at least a little upset it's looking more and more like that won't happen?

In a year when your defence has literally fallen apart, your season is lost, your franchise has been ridiculed throughout the league because of the handling of your (ex) coach, and you were forced to trade your captain because of cap issues?

But, yay when 100% healthy we're a potential borderline wildcard competing team!

We're not gonna make the playoffs and we're hurting our draft stock but let's have those good vibes all around like when BB was here.

Then wait until the offseason, probably not get a favourable schedule like we always do, and give up on the coach again! We can just blame it all on the early road schedule and injuries all over right?

  8. Yup. Seems about the right time this team starts f**king up the tank.

Kind of opposite of last year when they starting making that glimmer hope of a playoff push after Bruce arrived before choking in some "should win" games near the end to miss the playoffs. lmao.

It almost seems like its destiny for this team to not get a number 1 OA pick or a Stanley Cup.

Just stay in the middle. The Canuck way.

we can go all the way back to the gillis days. information came out that he wanted to rebuild and aquilini said no.

all fingers point to that clown at the top of the pyramid.

with ownership like this, any new management group no matter who, will be sticking to the status quo.

  12. its like this team purposely wants to stay up against the cap lol

we're not in any position to be demanding specific assets for our cap dumps.

I really thought they would've moved at least one of boeser, garland or miller by today...

we still have no cap space and no draft capital. srsly?

i'll wait until the summer but i don't think things will change tbh with the way this management has been all over the place with their moves.

last summer when we thought mgmnt would restock the prospect/draft pool, they pulled off that miller non-trade and re-signed him to his retirement contract. lol.

    idek anymore.

We're all good. Myers off the books will help. Plus you get the feeling this management group doesn't plan on spending to the cap like Benning did. Clear they plan on always leaving themselves some wiggle room.

exactly! so it isn't as bad as people think.

benning left this team in a literal mess personnel wise and cap wise.

it's definitely not easy to try and fix.

we'll see what happens for this team.

i for one am pretty optimistic.

Hronek will need a new contrac5 in one year. He’s a 7+ per guy. How do we afford him?

i'd like to think management was already aware of that scenario before offloading the price we paid.

if we somehow can't afford him and he walks or just becomes a waste of a player for this team, then i'll call out and blast management.

if we make transactions from here on out that could somehow get rid of our bad contracts/players we don't need to make room,  then i don't think the outcome will be as awful as everyone is making it out to be.

as with everything, time will tell.

  15. To the people still freaking out about the trade...

Petey has already indicated that he wants to play for a winner. He most likely doesn't want to waste his prime playing for a losing team that is tearing everything down.

Hughes earlier today echoed those comments.

We have our franchise players in both those guys. One is only 23. One is 24. Both late birthdays.

With this trade, Management has shown they want to go forward with those two guys to retool around instead of starting from scratch which would take, who knows how long, to build a title contender? Another 10+ years?

If anything, the Benning regime/ownership should've triggered a rebuild 7-8 years ago when the sedins were in their late 30's (but "it wouldn't be fair to the sedins blah blah", it didn't happen)

Management has also already indicated we will be retooling not rebuilding. Should not be a surprise.

And since we suck a*s this year, our 1st will likely be a lottery pick (let's go team tank!).

So.... from a point of optimism:

we add a very good, young two-way RHD (finally) and still have a potential franchise quality piece we can draft this year?

mind you, if we land a top 5 or even top 7 pick in this year's draft especially, that prospect might be ready sooner than later to contribute to the team.

latest, maybe two years tops? similar to Quinn and Petey's transition?

By that time, Hronek will be 27 (start of his prime), Petey will only be 26, and Hughes will be 25. Demko.. if he sticks around and regains his form will be 29 which is prime time for goalies Add our top draft pick from this year to that roster?

    that excites me a lot.

we could also further accumulate draft picks down the line through trades too.

the trade is already finished. no point in dwelling on it and the outlook isn't actually all that bad.

Potentially his 6th team in 5 years - I think that says a lot.

i guess it doesn't matter anymore since we don't have bo, but i remember when fans complained we didn't draft nichushkin and then said that if we were going to draft a london knights player, it should've been domi instead of horvat during the 2013 draft.

    time flies.

  17. been doing a bit of research and i've seen detroit fans and pundits say he's like a right handed chychrun with a little less of a scoring prowess but is equal if not a little more stable all around.

been watching some of his highlights he has a heck of a slap shot.

    kind of sami salo-esque imo.

    excited about that.

we haven't had a bomb from the point ever since the prime edler/salo days.

ppl can keep crying about what we gave up to acquire him but what's done is done. time to live with it.

he'll definitely be a much welcome addition to our defence is for sure.

  18. i do hope this management has something in the works by friday for reacquiring assets.

we added one RHD top 4 d. that's only two legit top 4 on this team including hughes.

still need two more and we already paid a hefty price.

still need to also figure out goaltending and our barren prospect pool.
