[Discussion] Projecting Pacific Division 2022/23 Final Finish
Got the Babych replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Canucks Talk
All the teams are in transition, and there are no consensus "good teams", I'd say. So, there is literally no outcome in the standings that would be completely shocking. But, I predict: 1. Las Vegas 2. Calgary 3. Los Angeles 4. Seattle 5. Anaheim 6. Vancouver 7. San Jose 8. Edmonton -

One burning question: Is that his sister? Asking for Boner. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Got the Babych replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That's looking possible, but would be about the worst outcome. We had a good little (albeit fluky) playoff run a few years ago, and followed it up with one of the worst performances seen in hockey, possibly in the history of sports. So, I don't see playoff experience as being anything magical, it certainly doesn't trump the benefits of making improvements to the team. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Well, livelihood is relative I guess. If JT gets injured on opening night, and never plays hockey again, he will still make, next year, more than any of us will make in our entire lifetimes. So, there's that. -
Bo Horvat is the Canucks best center.

Your confusion regarding the deep analysis of the handsomeness scale renders all your other points questionable. -

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion too. I wasn't intending this to be a Bo vs JT thing, just throwing out some love for Bo. I'm happy to have both, but if it has to be one, given all the factors that have been discussed, I think Bo would be the better option-even though JT has been amazing. -

I think we can all agree that the main takeaway here is that the Boner's flow/60 has far surpassed BB06. -
I'll let the insult slide, there was a touch of vitriol in my post. I thought I was ready to move on, but apparently still triggered-it has been a long and painful decade as a Canucks fan. But, having my mind made up is not who I want to be. The world is becoming more and more divisive, with people increasingly unable to even consider another's perspective, and I don't want to perpetuate that. So, we probably don't need to debate it, the 2 "sides" arguments have been spoken loud and clear, but I will appreciate the positives in what we have.

Yeah, makes sense. A knock on Bo is that is super weird that he is very effective at shutting down top lines at 5v5, but hasn't been great on the PK. -

Well. I've made my case as to why Bo is the better center, but I never said he is a better player than Miller or Petey.. JT is great, but doesn't play the full role of center, and petey is definitely not a 1C. He hopefully will be and definitely has the potential to become the best center on the team. -

I'm only arguing that Bo is the better center. The fact that JT and Petey play together isn't a negative, they are great. Just highlights the fact that BO is the only pure center of the bunch. -

Valid arguments. I didn't know JT logged the most forward PK time. But, is that playing center? I'm not saying Bo is our best player. You're right Bo will have to take a big step to match JT's trajectory now. -
Sure he made a couple of good picks while consistently finishing bottom of the league. Unfortunately his 2 highest picks were complete busts. That's not the reason that his GMing will always correctly be seen as some of the worst ever. The reason for that is that every year, as a bottom feeder, we sold the future and went all-in with the hope of securing a coveted wildcard playoff spot . And failing at that mediocre goal. This never works. No team, after a decade-ish of sucking, should be left with an empty prospect pool. dead money on the books, and no cap space. Ever.

I think Bo is more than faceoffs, but he is the active FO% leader, with a familiar name at #3! JT also here at a respectable #21 -

Top 10 is amongst some pretty elite company! And yes great to have 2 faceoff machines, this is often underappreciated. -

For sure. That would be a great deal for us. -
Not necessarily saying Bo is our best player, but I posit that he is, quietly, our best center: 1. Bo is the only one that has, uh, consistently played center in the NHL. JT has mostly not, hopefully Petey eventually will. 2. Bo has been relegated to "shutdown centre" duties because he is the only one that CAN play that role. Bo is the only one that plays as a true 200 ft center, Petey likely will eventually, JT will not. Doesn't mean Bo is not a top line center. When given the chance (as JT was) he will dominate on a top line. 3. Bo scored the same amount of goals last year, while being utilized in a defensive role with offensively inferior partners. JT and Petey generally play with our most prolific goal scorers (including each other). JT crushed the assists and deserves credit for beautiful playmaking last year, but it should be obvious that it's hard to rack up assists when consistently paired with non-goal scorers. 4. JT and Petey often play (and are at their best) on the same line. How does that work for centers? Sometimes Petey will be "playing center" while JT takes the faceoffs. So, for a fair comparison to Bo, JT and Petey would have to make a baby together, and hope that he becomes a pure center of Bo's caliber that can do it all. 5. Consistency. Comparing by age (first year in the league, second, etc), Bo has consistently outperformed JT in the NHL, while playing for a horrible team. Petey blows them away for early years. 6. Handsome-ness. This one is tough. Petey could be seen as pretty-but not handsome-while Bo and JT are both dreamy in a rugged, farmboy kind of way. I give JT a slight edge here.

Leaders are leaders, I don't think the C matters that much. Bo has had to play his entire pro career (and captain) a horrible team. He's played huge in big games, hopefully we'll see more of those. But I agree that JT is a fierce competitor and could also be a good captain.
-
I wouldn't have any complaints about Bo's work ethic or motivation. You can be uber-competitive without the emotional displays. They are different kinds of leaders, both effective.
-
We'll see, I mean he doesn't seem to be seen as that valuable around the league right now. I think he is seen as a winger that can play center, and wingers (even good ones) are the least valuable commodity now. But, I'd be completely happy if we signed him to 6years in the low 8s.
-
I think Bo gives it his all, but it is a job at the end of the day for these guys. If my job was banging super models, I'd still have off days if someone was telling me when and how to do it all the time.
-
Yeah, could happen, never know what happens in free agency if there are multiple interested teams. I do think it would be a mistake for us to sign him to 8x8.5 though.

It's a valid comparison, but Mika is a pure center and scores more goals. Points definitely matter, but I don't think JT gets Zibanejad money at FA.
