I imagine opposing teams are gonna hate this guy. Not because he’s a dirty player, but because he’s an absolute horse on the defensive side of the puck. He’ll be a nightmare for dmen to deal with on the forecheck. Also doesn’t seem like much of a pushover which is a nice change of pace.

I was hoping that the trade was stalled because it’s a massive waste of time. And completely pointless.
Agreed. This seems like a dumb trade no matter which way you look at it. We don’t need another “Heinin” type in the lineup. Not to mention trading Jake to a team within our normal division. I can already see it backfiring and it hasn’t even happened lol.

How is his English though?
This is an important question after the struggles Canucks players have had in the past making Russians feel comfortable as part of the team and city as well. Hopefully Francesco has learned something from the Shirokov and certainly the Tryamkin experience.
The Canucks need to be a more Russian friendly team if they want to attract more top talented Russian players.
Will he able to assimilate to the North American culture is the biggest question along with being able to stay healthy over the course of an 82 game season playing his bulldog style game.
He plays a very non traditional game for a Russian player. It is a more north south power game which is better suited on the smaller NHL ice.
I am intrigued by the player. I just hope the Canucks don't fail supporting him off the ice as a person.
After all, despite his maturity and being widely praised for his work ethic, 2 way game, and compete level he is still just a young kid. He will be in a foreign country with strange customs and unfamiliar foods etc.
That transition will be as interesting to follow as the on ice one.
I remember watching an interview of his a while back and noticed that his English is actually quite good. Much better than I had expected. Seems to be pretty intent on knowing the language.

Sutter hockey dynasty?

Kinda random, but does anyone else notice that Sutter seems to be respected by opposing players? Whenever there are scrums, he seems to be in the middle grabbing guys on other teams and never really has to eat any punches. Noticed it a couple times in the last couple games with Lowry. Could be wrong though lol

Smitty is finally looking like he is starting to fit in. His play has been rather underwhelming to start the season, but with a new team, no preseason, almost no training camp, and no time to practice or rest, that was an easily foreseeable situation.
We are seeing more and more of the top quality Dman we traded for as he gets more comfortable with his new team.
I have to to laugh at the posters on this page who are whining about his play and his salary, taking their last chance to hate on him, JB and Baumer while they still can, before he adapts to the point where whining about him becomes obvious trolling.
I agree with most of what you’re saying, though I still think Baumer has to go. Weird for people to complain about Schmidt’s play when you consider he had no camp and is on a new team, but complaints regarding our defensive play as a team are justifiable.

Watching him in Washington and Vegas, he played in solid teams with solid structure and often had a pretty decent partner. Now he's all over the place but it was from day 1 - not connecting on passes, boggling pucks and just looking a bit sluggish. I wonder if this was all more due to the lack of preparation and now exhaustion than a different system, but he's still struggling in Baumer's defensive system (as all of our defenders are).
It's a hard system to play when there's zero support but even that aside, he's looked bad at times. Certainly not worth his money which is a shame because up until this season, on paper he's far superior all-around to Tanev.
I don’t think it’s coincidence that we’ve been one of the worst defensive teams while baumer has been here. There’s a reason we look pretty good on paper but look like trash at times on the ice.

Until we can figure out how to allow less than 8 goals a game, I think I’m gonna take a little hiatus. Hard to be a fan sometimes when they put this kinda product out on the ice.

The coils are screwed if McDavid or Draisaitl go down. Their depth is atrocious, especially on the back end.

Tired of this 'lost big key pieces' narrative while ignoring additions like Schmidt, Hamonic, Juolevi, Hoglander and what they can bring to our lineup.
The media created this narrative at the beginning of the offseason and after Jim made his moves they don’t wanna admit they were wrong.

Love watching juice dump on the coil dmen

Also, Hog seems to be a keeper. He’s an absolute hound on the puck. Surprised he slipped to the second round.

Yeah, I feel like we're hurting ourselves by throwing our own players under the bus (don't read my Loui comments...they don't count).
With Jake, there's so much there to harness and it would be a shame to not allow him to prove himself. Yes, he's done some things but on the ice is where we need to focus (now). Which is why my comments about Loui don't count...I'm basing them on what I've seen through camp. I don't care if he was cuddling babies when he left the rink, that's what matters to the team. Jake seemed to put in a really good effort from what I saw. I wish we'd cut him some slack.
It’s too bad there’s a small percentage of the fan base that insists on treating our players as you’ve stated. It’s the reason why we are largely considered one of the worst fan bases in hockey, which is unfortunate when you consider how many good eggs there are amongst us.

What..? Lol the numbers in this post are incorrect, the argument you presented for whatever argument you're going on about is weak and I honestly have no idea where this is going lol.
Lets not be salty that these guys make a good buck doing what they love and hope they all have a great season and rest of their career, okay?
I had to stop responding to him cause I couldn’t decipher what he’s saying lol

I think he starts top nine as I imagine Greener will be a fan of his game (that’s assuming he’s still here). That being said, I think you could plug him in anywhere and he would contribute.
