I keep trying to tell people...

    Pettersson will be +/- $7m x 3 year bridge and Hughes +/- $6m x 3.

All this doom and gloom about $10m+ bridge deals is silly talk.

The people who think they’re both getting $10m are completely out to lunch. So roughly half the fan base lol

Okay I just copied the previous posters spelling

You don't remember the shortened season, when it restarted the AHL players were dominating for the first week or so because they had been playing games. I just posted "we'll see" in a couple of weeks.

What on earth are you talking about his skating being great, that has been one of the biggest negatives for 3 or 4 years now, they kept blaming it on bad feet, knees, back, illness

I hope the media, coach, fans and Benning give the exact same scrutiny with the exact same type of comments to Juloevi that they do Virtanen

Why would you want everyone to scrutinize Oj the way they have with Jake? Seems like a pretty bizarre thing for a fan of this team to wish on a player.

  3. It could just be me, but it seems as if the vibe of this team is different this year. With the additions of Schmidt and Holtby, along with the grind of last years playoffs, the boys seem like they’re a team that intends to do some damage. I actually like that people are predicting us to miss the playoffs. It’ll make it that much better when we win the division.

Pete is a bona-fide superstar and was expected to to be a pp player from his rookie season. Hoglander is a nobody who most of us never heard of, any true hockey fan knows he won't hang on to the top 6 it seems silly to place someone there that won't end up there. The top 6 spot was for Jake not an unproven small rookie, I have every right to be doubtful.

Hoglander is a nobody? Just a brutal take lol. You clearly haven’t been paying attention.

I’m not deflecting. I made a list of counter arguments to suggest your view of Rathbone at this stage is inflated. You compared him to two superstars, one is a forward and then another forward. You also think you know more than green and haven’t even seen the kid in drills, scrimmages vs nhl players (because we can’t as it’s not televised) and I’m sure you’re not a better evaluator of talent vis a vis green. So while I appreciate you’re pumped on Rathbone, I think we all are and I do think he will be closer to Hughes than many think, he’s not ready defensively according to green (or hinting as such)

Rathbone likely has a fine future with us. And yes he’s close, but Juolevi is ahead of him.

People just like to look at all the numbers without any context. At this point Oj is the better fit in our lineup, though Rathbone looks to be a great addition a little further down the line. We are going to have some great depth on the back end in a few years time

If you honestly believe that this would decide who makes the team you have not a clue about how professional hockey works.   Benning could give a rat's behind how an asset is acquired and the coach even less so.   This artificial crap about egos and such driving personnel decisions is beyond ridiculous.   The Canuck management and coaching staff are paid for on-ice results and not a hope they would sacrifice that to make themselves "look good".

The thought that people even entertain the idea of that mindset being a possibility boggles me. Canucks fans can be so strange sometimes lol.

I think what it comes down to is that their best players aren't their best players when it matters most, probably other than Tkachuk.

I do think Marky will be good, but I think he'll get quite peppered by teams who have more of that "rise to the occasion" mindset. This is going to be VERY resemblent of playoff hockey, and I think it's going to be the teams wired right that have the best chance of succeeding. However, if Geoff Ward does a good job of getting his team to play every night, then I'll be wrong and they'll finish ahead of teams like the Jets and Oilers. It might just be me, but I think the Jets are criminally underrated. I think they would have finished final-4 last playoffs had they been healthy. The Habs are another one of those teams that has that pact mentality and that I think will rise up to the occasion.

    My standings predictions:

    Canucks

    Canadiens

    Jets

    Leafs

    Oilers

    Flames

    Sens

It's going to be a strange but exciting season. Injuries and probably COVID will all factor in.

And hey, maybe I'm vastly overrating teams like the Habs and Jets, but that's what I'm going with. The Canucks are finishing #1 though. Book it.

Man if the leafs somehow miss the playoffs I will be ecstatic

Our 7th round draft pick in the 2019 NHL entry draft, #215 overall, was just named one of team Sweden’s top 3 players of the WJHC.

Edmonton drafted Broberg in the first round, #8 overall. He was not a top 3 player.

    GMJB out GM’d again!

I thought Broberg was very underwhelming against the good teams this tourney. Could just be my bias against the coilers though lol. Soderstrom would have been a better pick for them imo

maybe Bo too. With Bo being a beast on face-offs and Pods going into retrieve pucks, they can create a lot of chances that way too. I'd love to see Hoglander-Bo-Podz work out.

Man those three would be an absolute headache for play against. All so strong down low. Similar the the kings when they won their cups, just a heavy line that smothers you and grinds you down

I don't understand your infatuation with the CHL and why you'd want to see him play there? This bottom-6 pest role, which we'd all arguably like to see him play in, is the exact role he's getting right now with his SHL club. I'd rather just keep him there as he can further learn to grow into that role playing against men.

I feel like it would be counterproductive for him to be groomed into that role in the chl. Makes more sense for him to compete with men as opposed to kids.

I don't necessarily agree with the bolded part.

I think his arrival will give the team an additional top6 possibility - but as it stands in the present, Virtanen is effectively 2nd on the RW depth charts imo.

Ferland may have/might change that - but unfortunately it's looking like the cumulative concussions may cut his career short.

Podkolzin might make Virtanen #3 on that chart - but still - that's essentially where Virtanen has been developed for the most part - and 'good' teams these days tend to need 3 lines that can score (or a '3rd' that can chip in with some secondary scoring) - with at least one of those being a 'two-way' type line that can also handle their share of defensive deployment.  Virtanen could remain valuable regardless imo.  I think it might put pressure on Gaudette however - who isn't showing the versatility that Virtanen has / has not been utilized/"trusted" in the kind of deployment that Virtanen has - so his path to remaining on the roster might be tighter, needing to either develop into a viable center option, or compete with 3 guys that probably have an inside track relative to him to make it into the top 3 RW spots.

I hope to see a motivated Jake in addition to the arrival of Pod. Those two at their best will be a nightmare to deal with for opposing defenses.

It’s laughable reading posts from arm chair keyboard warriors that clearly have never stepped on the ice in their lives

Somehow these clowns are now prospect experts

I am ordering you all (you know who you are) to cease immediately and leave the talent commentary to the few people on this forum that actually know hockey

I have been busy so that that leaves approximately 5 others that are allowed to comment

in the meantime let me offer some advice:

    - the scoresheet rarely tells the story

    - did the player pick up his check?

    - did he get into the correct offensive position?

    - did he make passes or set up plays that were not converted?
    - does he handle adversity with poise?

    - what Is his breakout and retreat speed?

    - puck handling skill?

    - ice vision?

    - corner strength?

    - does he lead by example?

    - shot quality?

    - overall hockey IQ?

all this can be seen and evaluated regardless of competition

you are welcome fir the tips you clueless fools that attempt to actually k is the game (you know who you are)

    oh, and Happy New Year

What on earth is this post lol

Are we talking a 56 game schedule in his prime?

Well said but 20-30 points in his prime? Im thinking more like 50-60 in an 82 game schedule. He’s definitely has offensive tools to go with his rounded game

I think he was referring to goals maybe? Otherwise, I agree with you

Christ here we go again with people being worried about a prospect busting after one sub par game in an overrated tournament. Can’t wait for this kid to get to Vancouver, steamrolls somebody behind the net, creates a turnover, and buries a goal. Kids got game written all over him.

Need more of this on the nucks. People complain about our team needing more grit and in the same breath complain that Pod isn’t any good. Like what do these people want hahahahah
