  1. People pretty happy down here in Houston today. Nice to set a franchise record.
  2. So Dahlen and Petterson can become our new Sedins.
  3. Utica did not have any depth this year, partly because of the injury problems in Vancouver. No NHL quality centermen to work alongside Virtanen. It would have helped his game. But I think he may approach his summer training a little better this year. Sent to Utica is like sending a Russian player to Siberia. Maybe he will want it a little more now.
  4. Pavel Bure scored 60 goals a season twice because he was a master at floating and had lots of speed. We sure could use 40 or 50 goals off the odd man rush. I think skill is not our problem but it is WD's decision to push team defence and punish those who do not play defence. Under WDs system, Bure would be benched for not playing team defence. The challenge is that many goals in this league are scored off an odd man rush. That is why the speed game kills. But I understand the defence first mentality. The problem with being in an odd man rush situation is that you are now out of position and and if you cough up the puck your now looking at an odd man rush the other way. Making up the the 20-30 feet distance going the other way is hard. Then again, if you are playing against a floater, you have to change your tactics.
  5. Thanks Burr for living the ball hockey player's dream. I wish you and your family well.
  6. No recreational reading outside of CDC here. I am reading a book on research design. It examines the different quantitative and qualitative research methodologies used for doctoral dissertations.
  7. Central HVAC systems are great to have.
  8. I enjoy it. That is one reason why I moved to Texas. You get used to it.
  9. Good kid, great future. But this sucks for him.
  10. Burrows signed for less on his previous contract so the team would have cap room to keep the core together. At the time he was rebuffed for saying so. The team paid him back on the value of this contract.
  11. Earning an MBA may be out of his reach if he struggles with stats and economics--heck with his GPA he will not be allowed into grad school.
  12. It is summer break and I do not have anything better to do.
  13. Interesting excerpt from a job posting. Six-figures is the market rate for an experienced marketing person with a graduate degree and ten years experience with strong credentials. You do not have any of this Russianfan.
  14. He might make $80,000 if he joined the RCMP after three years.
  15. Could explain why he has a 2.8GPA. I guess he will not be able to graduate business school with that low GPA. I have an idea for him. He could consider going to work for Speedy Brake and Tire... "Because at Speedy, you're a somebody!"
  16. Partying too much... he needs to go into timeshare sales. You can make six figures your first year on the sale floor and party all he wants.
  17. My only fear is that he is using all of us to write his final paper, and I bet he is probably not citing any of us. BTW Russianfan, in a completely academic sense, I do not give you any permission to use any of my work posted here on CDC.
  18. If I am comparing you to another applicant, for an entry level marketing job, comparing apples to apples, I would not even call you because you have mediocre grades. Well rounded, great. But you are not the brightest crayon in the box and your grades indicate that you are not dedicated to your studies. If you cannot hack spending four years earning a degree with decent grades, in a cut throat business such as marketing you are not going to make it long term. Low grades are indicative of a lack of effort. You can argue with me all you want, I am trying to help you realize real life. I will add this, I do not care how cool he is with technology, his application would never make it pass HRIS (human resource information systems). His only hope is to have a personal connection with someone. Thing is, if I was in his cohort and HR came to me at some point to ask me what I thought, I would have to be honest and say that he procrastinates and because we work with tight deadlines that we do not need this type of baggage.
  19. As a CEO I find it amusing that people fresh out of college think they are entitled to something when they bring no marketable skills to the table other than a college degree. Yes, in Canada a lot of people do not have a four year degree yet alone a graduate education. The problem for Russianfan is that there are a hundred other marketing graduates that have applied for that "job" and if his GPA is low it may indicate to HR to look at someone who has a higher work ethic--because in my mind a correlation of low grades to work ethic can be made--I do not want a C student.
  20. I have hard time, I failed the first time I went to college and was told not to come back. After spending time in the workforce I went back and graduated with honors, and pulled a 3.9/4.0 in graduate school. The fact that he wants to argue, tells me a lot. He is probably bipolar and off his medication.
  21. Nice to live in a fantasy world. Sorry that you are going to find out things the hard way. You are making assumptions about the job market in Canada, and obviously ignored my years of advice. Please see where I am coming from, I spent most of my adult life in management, spent years as a CEO, sat on many numerous boards. You want something that you are not entitled to. You have nothing to offer, and based on your frenetic panic to write a research project is enough to prove to a person like me how irresponsible you are. I would never hire you to do a million dollar marketing campaign. You are irresponsible, and have unrealistic expectations. You have nothing to offer me because you cannot be trusted.
