  1. Yup he should. I guess the whinging would be in relation to the potential - that he may continue to get over his lack of intensity over the course of 2-3 years.
  2. I would whinge if we lost Goldobin in favour of Gagner. I'm not even sure Goldobin will ever get over his apparent laziness - but I'd be pissed if we lost him because of a guy like Gagner.
  3. A side hustle is exactly that - a tonne of hustle. I wouldn't NOT do it because of questions about proper training and/or financing, I would just start hustling. Thats the beauty of it, but also what makes it hard - for the thing to fly you've gotta have a tonne of time and energy or it just eventually turns into a weird hobby. But if you do, you can create your own path and that's pretty exciting.
  4. I'd say yes, I mean Matt Murray didn't see any of those original goals, he just dug them out of the back of the net.
  5. You gotta admit though - for a guy who's probably learned to take a joke, the Kevin Bacon thing was a little bit funny...
  6. Like missing the net or pounding it into the goalies chest? I'm just joking, he's gonna be awesome if he can figure that part out.
  7. Yeah, OK, I can buy that I guess. When word came out we were looking at Beagle I got excited about the idea of giving more minutes to the young guys while simultaneously sheltering them. Now that they signed three "grittier guys that play the game right" it kind of feels like we're planning to play three lines of gritty veterans with miniscule scoring outside of the top line. I don't feel negative towards the signing of these guys, I just don't see where the scoring is coming from. I guess I'd rather see Sutter used in a more offensive role if we start the season with current lineup. Perhaps Baertschi - Sutter - Pettersson or something.
  8. Sounds great, but who is the 2C in that model? Pettersson? Gaudette? Gagner?!
  9. Baertschi and granlund are a no brainer for me - I’d really struggle to give up Virtanen .... I’d rather just give up the first and second with the caveat that the first is lottery protected.
  10. SF1, what in your mind would have been equivalent value from the Canucks? Is O’Reilly very different from Bo Horvat? I find myself wishing Bo could centre all 4 lines ... I think I would have overpaid strongly for O’Reilly.
  11. You mean cause they have less gym time cause they spend so much time playing hockey?
  12. For a fourth, I can definitely accept this!
  13. We are all terribly flawed. That’s the experience of human-hood. I have some beliefs about the bigger picture, but for those who don’t I think it’s enough to simply make sure the things we add to society outweigh the things we suck out of it (and curtail our flaws short of deeply hurting others to the best of our ability). The very little I know of you from this forum, I think you easily pass...part of the experience of human-hood is also the need to learn to offer ourselves some forgiveness and positivity.
  14. Recently when he said something to the effect of 'Goldy also has to fight through that anti-Russian bias' (it wasn't said nearly as strongly as that - it was much more subtle, but that was the intent) it felt like it confirmed a bunch of things for me. He needs a Larionov in his life (like Goldy) who knows what it takes and can be a voice of reason.
  15. It’s not preposterous when you consider how things actually work. CDC, the general fanbase and the media all hype these kids up to an entirely unrealistic expectation, and when they don’t achieve it there’s an entire city talking about how they suck and why did they choose that player and why doesn’t management trade them while they still have a sliver of value. There’s no way that doesn’t affect kids. I remember one highly touted kid that came from Sweden (with his twin brother) and only put up about 30 points in his rookie season, and didn’t do much better the next couple seasons despite getting lots of PP time. It was a non-stop city-wide discussion about how much they sucked; we would all collectively roll our eyes when WCE would finish their 70 seconds of PP time, knowing that the PP was over as the 2nd unit took the ice. And then after years of falling short of expectations, they went on to blow them away. I think EP will do better, but he might need some time to adjust and preferably without the weight of unrealistic negativity.
  16. even my wife was a hockey fan in that moment, watching jovo jump around like a monkey!
  17. I'm hoping for unreasonable results (much like we got from Boeser), but I'll be fully content if Pettersson scores 35-40 (just as I would have with Boeser)
  18. The opposite comes a little later when he only scores 2 points in his first ten games and 5 in twenty.
  19. I agree, but I'd also like to see Horvat with Boeser and still another line with Horvat with Pettersson...if only we had 3-4 Horvats
  20. I thought that they didn’t waive him, that they’d made some sort of mistake or something. I looked it up and I guess they just thought they could sneak him through. I found out at the same time that the first we gave up in that same trade (for Ballard!) could have landed us Kuznetsov- coulda, shoulda, woulda...
  21. As little as I care for Gagner, him and Boeser had brilliant chemistry at least in flashes - Boeser's "laughable" 5 goals against Pittsburgh were centred by Gagner.
  22. Yeah, I remember when MayRay scored 53 points on our 2nd line and longing for the day we had a legit 2nd line...
  23. Haha, I’m just making up arguments to hear myself digress I suppose. I believe that Gretzky was unequivocally the greatest of all time, but if people want to argue for Mario or numba-foah-bobby-oah I’m cool with that. And it was cool to hear that CBJ scout’s take on things, so thanks for sharing. The fact that people are mentioning Pettersson in the same discussion as players like that, as ridiculous and hyperbolic (and potentially damaging if he doesn’t immediately fulfill outrageous expectations) it all is...its pretty special to have a player of this caliber in our system!
  24. The joke is that for every Paul Coffey that Gretzky had, Lemieux had literally a Paul Coffey. "Yeah well Lemieux never had anyone like Messier" - you've never heard of Ron Francis have you? "Well Gretzky had Kurri" - there's no way you haven't heard of Jagr. "Anderson, Tikanen..." - Robitaille, Trottier... There's no question Gretzky's team was superior and all at the same time, but the people that make these arguments don't usually remember what a stacked HOF team Lemieux had too.
