  1. Provided Benson doesn't drop to 11... what about this?

    To Van

    17

    43

    Matta

    to Det

    11

    Boeser

Matta's a 6'2 LD on a cheap 3M contract for 2 more years.  We drop down a couple spots and can probably use that pick to get a Willander or a Simashev. Matta was excellent with Hronek this year. We also get a 2nd this year to shore up the pipeline.

Detroit moves up 6 spots to get a bigger swing in the draft and also get Boeser who's still a young top six forward that they can keep or parlay into future assets.

Yeah stuff you type does actually belong in the toilet, so it's a good thing you typed it while there

So I guess Canucks management forgot to compare OEL's numbers Quinn Hughes' numbers. I guess even they have enough brains to actually watch the games and determine what OEL is worth :lol:

What's funny is that the buyout happened basically as soon as the window opened, meaning that while you were typing your usual hysterics, Canucks management had already decided they'd rather pay OEL to not play for them :lol:

Oh and let me respond to some of your ridiculous statements:

"BTW almost all on the fly starts are heading into the offensive zone, but I guess you werent aware of that"

Uh...how many times a game does a team dump a puck in with the intention of changing? And even if your claim is true...what's your point - only Hughes changes on the fly, while OEL doesn't? Huh????

"its also interesting how when OEL works the point on the PP we get more shots through and create more chances just from his ability to get shots through traffic. Or did you even watch the games?"

Yeah he can gets shots through. So what? Are you saying OEL ought to have replaced Hughes on the PP??

"If you cant figure out that OEL is better defensively and more well rounded than Hughes, with all the data shown, you are a lost cause well beyond help."

Uhhhhhh...just because OEL and Hughes have comparable defensive numbers while Hughes is miles better than OEL on offense doesn't mean that OEL is a "more well rounded" player. It just means that OEL is a much worse player than Hughes. Much much worse.

    Bye :lol::lol::lol:

This was the local SN650 like Sat and Bik or was it the Toronto talking heads? Either way these are paid hockey analysts and it is a joke if they are talking about buying out OEL.

The 2020 offseason when JB first was on the hunt for OEL and infamously “ran out of time” with the teams own house keeping (Tanev Toffoli, Stetcher, etc) it was discussed on here (Imm I believe) broke down the buyout of OEL and basically his contract is buyout proof. I will see if I can dig up the official numbers on cap friendly but from what I recall back in fall of 2020 that the contract was much worse if bought out. (Edited below is the savings and cap we would have to eat if we buy him out)

Hey maybe Boston (the other only team he was willing to move to) wants him:ph34r:

Oh well you said the trade sucks, never mind silly me, I forgot you’re the only opinion that matters on the valuation of our trades.

I still make that trade at that time in our history. I call it 50/50 with hindsight, and that has nothing to do with OEL and everything to do with how terrible we’ve been this year overall.

JT Miller is heading towards his decline. Hes past his prime and slowly declining.

OEL had a bounce back year last year and tied his career high DPS with 4.3. Which the year prior the Norris winner had a 4.1DPS.

A JT Miller trade would have done so much more for this organization and the future, than re-signing him.

You’re also looking at a guy who played on arizona, a perpetually rebuilding bottom 5 team in the league year after year. Look at how much Chychrun struggled last season without OEL

Does your Canucks vision have Dermott -Poolman as it’s 2nd pair.  OEL is surrounded by scrubs and Myers right now.  What’s your plan, time machine excluded?

OEL and Myers paired together this season rank top 10 for all D Pairs at 5v5 in the league with 150+mins together in

    GA T-3rd (5)

    SCA T-6th (73)
    HDCA T-5th (29)

    HDGA T-2nd (1)

    oiSV% 7th 94.57%

They need to leave Myers and OEL together and stop splitting them up. 5v5 They’ve allowed 5 goals against in 158mins and 1 high danger goal against.

I still think this trade is good. Call me stupid. I don't care. What is wrong with Garland? What is wrong with OEL playing 22 minutes a game with scrubs that should be depth or even AHLers? Sure 7mil is a steep price. But I am a big proponent of our scrub defenders not having to play a ton of defense. Y'all can love Hughes all you want I love him too, he's not good defensively. OEL takes those grueling shifts against the top opposing scorers. And he has to do it with trashcans and AHL jobbers. Give me a break before you come at me with the he sucks storyline.

The only thing I'll say is, the trade aged poorly cause management can't build a good team for the life of them. That's the only angle I'll concede. I honestly think if we nabbed Marino to play with OEL, he'd be looking really good right now. Marino is filling more or less the same niche as OEL. They 100% would have been a really great two way pair. But instead we're out here actively hoping to see more Burroughs. That's how bad our blueline has been. We actually want Burroughs over some of the other pylons.

Looking back at this thread, seems some of the usual suspects don't even show their faces around here anymore. Go figure.

We won but at what cost??

I remember everyone completely hating and downvoting people that didn’t like the trade.

Newhook would be a nice add but acquiring Girard doesn’t make sense to me since we already have Hughes (similar player) and OEL on that left side.  Maybe Byram instead of Girard?

We need good defenseman period - doesn't matter which side.

Girard would be our second best defenseman behind Hughes.

Pederson was coming off shoulder surgery and was a shell of himself, it was an awful trade from day 1

So they took a risk and they failed.

Pederson still had 2 productive years for us.

    That's basically what hindsight means.

This trade was bad from the start and many called it from the beginning, just check the first couple of pages.  Similarly, Naslund for Stojanov trade was bad the instant it was made.

So, I have to say I don't like this.  We've essentially extended an awful contract, except now it's worse. We don't have a first round pick, again, and we're running dry on prospects. For everyone saying Gillis left us with the cupboards empty, Benning is doing the same.

    Again, not even close JT.

There's no guarantee we would have even picked Wesley.

On paper, we gave up a top pick and a struggling player for a top line player.

Who knew Pederson was gonna drop off after 2 years?  Who knew Neely was suddenly going to go from a 30 point player to a 90 point player?

This is all hindsight... it's literally in the definition of hindsight.

The Cam Neely trade is sort of a "hindsight is 20/20" thing.  Sure, he wasn't being used to his potential, but then again, he wasn't really performing to his potential at the time either.  You could say though that management at the time didn't do their due diligence, and you wouldn't be wrong; or perhaps management at the time thought - "damaged goods for damaged goods".

    Yup.

This trade is far worse because it was terrible from the onset.

    Cam Neely as a Canuck:

Pederson has 76 and 71 point years for us before falling off a cliff.

The Neely trade was a 20/20 hindsight gone bad... the OEL trade is a completely different animal.

A lot of hate for Friedman on CDC which really highlights the absurdity.

I see so many people hating on Friedman because his '32 thoughts/rumors' don't come to fruition.  "OH ELLIOTS A HACK HE JUST NAME DROPS VANCOUVER TO GENERATE CLICKS"

Like a bunch of people who smashing their keyboards on a computer think they know more than arguably the most connected media member in the league.  Not to mention, a lot of ideas/trades get discussed but never materialize.

This topic was trending from a bit of internet drama, but Guenther is good.  He will be good for Team Canada and improve going forward.  We have OEL and Garland though.  Both had good seasons last year and have completely dropped off this year.  This team is ruining my life and I wish I could support a better team (but I can't).

Guenther's likely going to be a staple in the top six for the next 10 years.

This trade hurts as each day goes on.  It just gets worse and worse and worse.

OEL keeps declining, Garland keeps declining, and Guenther keeps rising.

Did I mention Guenther costs 900k?  OEL and Garland cost $13M... smh

Honestly, I'd suggest to just hibernate (don't go to games, do other things) and just put the fandom on hold if you want your mental health to improve.  This team is terrible, capped out, has no prospects, no assets, and worst of all, not bad enough to tank for top prospects.  I haven't watched a full game all year, it's just background noise right now.

Quinn Hughes is mediocre to above average defensively, Overall yes, OEL was our best defenseman last year. Quinn did get a lot of points though so he was number 2.

    We don't deserve Hughes.

This guy single handedly carried our defense last year.  He, alongside JT and Demko, were by far our best players.

To say OEL was better than Hughes last year is being a contrarian.

    Not really.

Several people are projecting this to be the worst trade in franchise history. If you follow Canucks media, you can see this being mentioned.

Guether projects top be a top six forward for the next 10 years.

This is far from a standard bad hockey trade.
