  1. I've held the thought that we should be offloading our older established talent for younger players / picks. We should not be trading for scoring, but rather trading away the now-dead weight. Gillis might want to be greedy for the return, but in some cases the cap space and a free roster spot IS the return (David Booth comes to mind... Edler is falling into that list too)
  2. By the looks of this, I think I had a better evening by going cross country skiing. Go Columbus Go!
  3. Our PP is miserable because 3 guys who aren't scoring are out for the whole powerplay. Put Dalpe, Kassian and somebody else out there... not a guy who can't look down into the boards. All's well that ends well but still. This wasn't a "good" game.
  4. How can Bieksa be out of position as often as he is? It's like every time the nux get scored on, Bieksa is on his belly behind the play. But seriously, that went from Daniel Sedin to the back of the canucks net. Missed stretch low percentage passes galore.
  5. Lol canucks special teams are garbage. Too much standing around all the time. Only one person in motion.
  6. Kassian set that thing up BEAUTIFULLY. Read Garrison coming straight in, Garrison with a pass. Nice finish x2 by Dalpe.
  7. Sedin: No longer swedish for punch me. It's swedish for "To kill an offensive play, give it to a Sedin"
  8. I did a bit of digging, and as far as I can tell, the only other player to score his first NHL goal on his first shot in the NHL was... (funny, considering Kellan is 6'6") #66, Mario Lemieux. That's pretty epic company. I think Kellan also set a record for being the fastest to set a record.
  9. It's the Oilers. Gotta win game. Pride if nothing else. They're woeful.
  10. So much so I'd call this speculation over a report.
  11. I think people are looking at this negatively. It's likely going to involve a suspension, but now that Torts has had a taste of how the league treats the non 'expand our market(like Florida or SoCal)' or Original 6 teams, he's got a chance to do some talking in that hearing too. He will bear the brunt of it, but you can bet that if he gets a chance he'll express his own level of frustration at the officiating which I believe led down this path. The inconsistent calls force our hand; if our skill guys are allowed to get gooned with no penalties called, then we must go gooning ourselves and damn the consequences. Now that he's seen the comparison of treatment, he might be able to send some sort of message as well. If he can eloquently get this point across, at least fair officiating would be a nice start here. Even if it does cost him a few games.
  12. I like the energy he seemed to have after the Giordano thing. Instead of going after someone and gooning them his first response was to try and generate a very quality scoring chance, which he did essentially on his own. THAT is the Kassian we want him to be. If he starts out defensively responsible as he was for the most part tonight, the points will come after that, as they did tonight.
  13. Great fire and passion from the coach, a scrappy win with only two natural centres... good win.
  14. I know Hanson did Mmmm Bop. And that really warranted a 7 min 3 on 5 by itself. As for Hansen, that was Dvorski having his panties being tugged so high they were around his chin. Sestito... well, rep call. They both shoulda been tossed.
  15. Well, the good news here is, it's a powerplay to the end of the game at 5-3 So it doesn't matter what they do, it'll always be 5-3. Bring on the bloodshed.

  17. Well, don't need to waste my time watching this. Season. The Canucks need serious changes. The process is not going so well... whatever process it is. Every successful team (or even fun to watch one) has a young (or at least young-ish) superstar. We need to make changes to find a way to get and keep one. So Changes are needed. And I don't mean some old crooner for a first. I mean a slew of youth and picks instead. I don't mind watching an exciting loss with youthful mistakes. I love watching Junior hockey for that reason; but I do mind watching an old core get older with no promise of getting any better. Insanity: Same thing, expecting different.
  18. Like I said. Sedins are in Olympic mode. The closer it gets to the Olympics, the more invisible they're gonna be. They don't want to get hurt before the tourney. This sucks.
  19. The Sedins look like they're in Swedish Olympics mode. As in "We're playing in the Olympics for Sweden, lets ease off a bit". It's pretty stupid. Why do I pay for TV to watch this crap. And it is crap.
  20. I think we need to pool some money to mail Mr. Devorski some glasses. That was something special of a missed call. I ref rec league... and with his point of view that's a call *I* would have made. He's paid a lot more than me to NOT make that call...
  21. Good shift by booth. If he plays like that I think he'll get more ice time and less pressbox time.
  22. I don't think we should do a damn thing. Unless we can pull off a Stojanov for Naslund type trade for someone, trading for Ott, Jagr, Jokinen or any other rental is stupid. We're likely more than a single rental away from a serious cup run unless Luongo decides "Ok I'm winning a cup now" and pulls off a series of 16 shutouts in a row. Rentals are bad news. I'd rather have the prospects in the cupboard so we can either use them, or trade them for contracted players that we need later.
  23. Nash is the only pick I don't like. He's never gotten it done with the game on the line. MSL should have been there; but why bring a fast skater to a large ice surface and a skill game, who has chemistry with Stamkos? Yeah, no need for that. Everybody else probably has a decent case to be made for being there. I used to really like Rick Nash, but he is a lazy player.
  24. Holding the lead: Something impossible. Leaving players out too long: Something too often done Missing a sniper: Still. I want a few showcase games for Canucks here, so a few of them are out of here. Not necessarily in a "Raymond Ballard +1st" fashion, I mean as in we start getting young players / picks back. It's clear to me that while we can go on a hot streak, this team as is is not built to compete for the cup anymore. I can't name any one player who should have the bags packed. Aquilini wants the playoff revenue, but it'll be a short playoffs assuming we get in at all...
