  1. Hmm I dont where you get your info, but Crosby did indeed play in their cup winning game.

And Taylor Hall was above a ppg last season and pretty damn close the year before

  2. No, spoken by someone who has a memory.

Well if you actually have seen Ehlers play you'd know they are in no way comparable at all.

And I don't remember Schroeder ever playing bigger than his size. Perhaps people claimed that, but those people would be wrong. Instead of using the opinions of others , perhaps you should watch them yourself and then you could come to your own conclusions.

  3. Funny, when Schroeder was drafted we were told that he plays bigger than he is.

Maybe it's better to draft a bigger player who also 'plays bigger than he is.'

Again spoken by someone who is basing his opinion off of a few highlight clips probably

  4. Yeah. However, they're Hossa. And Kane. Two hall-of-famers. But I guess if people here think Ehlers is Bure then any comparison is valid.

Most teams address weaknesses before building on strengths with redundancy.

Since at #6 we're not going to land a franchise centerman or a stud pmd in this draft, then you have to look at power forwards. imho Ritchie is just another Kassian. Too many penalties. Not enough speed. So why go there? We need a scorer. And in the west we'll need somebody who will go to the net to get the tough goals. A pure power forward. Report is Virtanen is the purest power forward in the draft.

Shinkaruk isn't as afraid to go to the net as Ehlers is.But yeah, Shink and Ehlers are small wingers. The there's Jensen, who plays on his wrong wing like Ehlers. So we really don't need to go there. Not at the risk level.

Would you take Jordan Shroeder over ROR any day? Ooooooh dat skill though. Lol. Please consider being undersized as being a huge risk. Ehlers constantly gets pulverized in junior. How is he not going to break against the giant defenders in our division? Ehlers can't play in our division. He would remind us of slightly more skilled Mason Raymond, that's all.

MacKinnon is twice the player Ehlers will be. Would you guys please stop comparing Ehlers to guys like Bure? Watch some Bure junior highlights and you'll see true scoring dominance. With Ehlers I see a lot of fear.

I'm no Ehlers nut hugger but you should stop talking as you clearly have no clue. Ehlers is pretty fearless and he does indeed go to the tough areas and if you watched him at all you would know this. Once he takes a good lickin he always comes back with some extra pep in his step pissed off and it actually brings out some grittyness to his game .

  5. I like what I heard from Linden

    - we are thin on D prospects, but if we got another pick and drafted 2 good forwards, we really would complete our forward group and then we could turn our attention to D

-a lot of the elete D men in the league were not top 10 picks, where as proportionately, a lot of the top forwards are top 10 picks

While I agree and we definitely need a no 1 d (way easier said than done) ,one of the two forwards has to be a no 1 centre. Hopefully Draisaitl drops as I think he could fit that bill one day.

  6. 3rd round consideration huh....

So. going 1st overall in a solidly scouted WHL draft means nothing. Being 17 years old with his height size IQ and scoring ability as well as skating and speed is worth 3rd round consideration.

Where was Ehlers again before the WJC? How many scouts or mock drafts had him in the top 10?

    That's right none.

Where as basically everyone and their dog had 17 year old Jake Virtanen in their top 10. He is the only kid of his age ground like this in the draft yet only has 3rd round hockey IQ

You really and truly have NO clue what you're talking about and it shows.

If Dal Colle is gone, Ekblad and Reinhart gone and it comes down to Virtanen or Ehlers...that cream puff can go kiss off in Canes land somewhere as we can see his ceiling. We can't yet with Jake Virtanen. RW RH Jake Virtanen

Who by the way, IF is just like Kesler is great as everyone has Kesler pegged to leave the club soon.

He definitely exaggerated the third round hockey iq comment but I see where he's coming from. His vision is really suspect and he's definitely a me first player and the games I've seen he was completely invisible. Not involved in creating offense and not involved anywhere else so he's pretty inconsistent. I've also heard from people who know him that he's got a pretty poor attitude too. I think at 6th we'll have a better option to be honest but I guess we could do worse.

  7. The letting go of Torres was incredibly stupid. The guy had a great playoff showing and certainly earned a multi year deal and it wasn't like he was being unreasonable in terms or length. However, Lapierre became pretty useless, especially last year and we essentially swapped him for Richardson. I wasn't a huge fan of Weise but he is still young and does have some upside. I think his big mouth is what got him moved. He wasn't in favor with Torts at all and had many games where he played just 4 mins. That's not completely Gillis' fault.

  8. Aside from Florida picking Aaron Ekblad at #1there will definitely be a lot of movement from the Sabres and Oilers in the top 5.

I can see the Oilers wanting a defenceman and after not getting Ekblad, going the trade route. Perhaps throwing a package at Shea Weber with their 1st and maybe Yakupov.

Then Buffalo will take Sam Reinhart at #2. With Nashville and Calgary also in consensus to take one of the top remaining centreman (Bennett, Draisaitl, Dal Colle)

What will be interesting for the Canucks is what Buffalo does with their second top 5 pick from the Vanek trade. They could take another centreman, but having just taken Reinhart and having someone like Hodgson on the roster already might lead them to take a winger (Ritchie, Virtanen, Nylander). Or the other option would be to see what the trade market might be for that pick and have teams like us try to trade down to grab the final consensus top 5, whether it be Sam Bennett, Leon Draisaitl, or Michael Dal Colle.

This team will definitely benefit the most from drafting one of those three guys.

Im not so sure Dale Tallon will pick Ekblad at no 1. He still probably has nightmares of taking Cam Barker top 3 with Chicago.

  9. Dammit...

    -_-

Ehlers hype is over for me. Dang it, I had it all planned out. I was going to wait for them to say "...From the Halifax Mooseheads" and then streak through the city... :(

Linden why do you have to SHUT ME DOWN.

He was just on GlobalBC to answer questions on the draft...

"... Focussing mainly on skill and size. Powerful and strong, dominant players that use their size to advance the play. The way the Canucks will be built for a long time" something like that.

6th Pick is going to be used on a bigger player, I suspect:

a.) Big Five (Leon Draisaitl, Michael Dal Colle, Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett - if any are avail)

    b.) Brendan Perlini

    c.) Nicholas Ritchie

    d.) Alex Tuch

    e.) Jake Virtanen

I seriously hope we go with Ehlers... but the Canucks will probably let me down. Again.

Well he's lied to global tv already once right? :P

Does anyone have some highlights of Ehlers? Doesn't seem like there are many videos on YouTube(could be because I've searched from my phone). Also, who is our scout out in the Q?

  10. What GM in his right mind would trade for a guy who's this bad of a liability in his own zone? If Edler can't be traded, he needs to be bought out, buried in the minors, ANYTHING to prevent him from suiting up for the Canucks next season.

Edler playing this bad next year boosts our chances at Mcdavid or eichel:p

  11. calgary can't catch us, if we lose out and they win their remaining games we'll be tied in points and ROW but we hold the 3rd tiebreaker which is points earned between the two teams. we've won every game against them

Ah I thought since they would have more wins they'd get the nod. That sucks

  12. Can't happen any more, 6th overall pick is as good as we can get without winning the lottery

false , 5th overall is still possible with Calgary winning tonight. Although very unlikely, as we would have to go pointless. Calgary would also have to win out their last two(one against us), Winnipeg would have to win their last game and Carolina would need a win in one of their final three.
