  1. I don't know how accurate it is to it, but Cardinal is based on a book that I haven't yet read. I'm actually inclined to seek it out after seeing though after having seen the show. I don't think the casting for Cardinal was perfect, but I don't take issue with the existence of Delorme, That's because, spoiler alert, there's absolutely no romance angle or anything there. It's just a fairly attractive women that happens to be a cop. That in itself could be argued to be a sexist hollywood trope that female leads kind of have to be attractive, but I can't say I take issue with her character, or who they chose to act for her. Looking at both shows, I see a great True Detective clone, and a bad True Detective clone. You're probably right that Cardinal had the bigger budget, but it doesn't take all the money in the world to shoot something competently and make it look good. It helps obviously, but I think the difference between the mediocre and great cinematography goes beyond that. If you keep watching beyond episode one though, It does continue to trend downwards to episode four. Particularly because the actual antagonist drags things down. But it pops back up strongly by episode 5 and ends on a high note.
  2. I liked Kim's Convenience. Though that is a comedy, what I liked about it was the drama and development between characters. Between Cardinal and Bellevue, both are 6 part mini series taking place in a small Canadian town, where a brash detective is looking missing teens in a race against time, while dealing with their own family drama. I know CTV isn't CBC, but with similar budgets, conecepts and goals, it shouldn't be where one is great and one is awful. With Cardinal being successful enough to become an ongoing series with 2 more seasons, it's probably my favourite show on TV not named Last Man on Earth. With Bellevue, again, I don't think it earned that second episode watch for me.
  3. Tried watching the first episode of the show Bellevue on CBC. It was just one episode, but it was so awkwardly and poorly done. It's a show about a missing kid, but it's all over the place in its focus. I barely know what's going on at any given moment, and even less about the whole story overall. It's a similar premise to the mini-series Cardinal that just finished airing a week or two ago, but where that was incredibly well done, this is the opposite in terms of execution. I think CBC and the show's producers had the same influences and motivation as CTV and Cardinal to put out what should ultimately have been a really similar show, but they missed so hard that I can't see myself bothering with the second episode.
  4. Also Impact bleeding the entirety of their roster over 3 days or so has me choked. Hating this new management/ownership right now. They cut way too much, way too quickly. If all these rumours are true, they're cutting out what made impact tick. From Drew Galloway, to both Hardys, to Mike Bennett and Maria? And now maybe Jade? None of these people did anything but make the show better. Don't look forward to this revamp at all. I'm doubly wishing that Billy Corgan bought the company now. He would have had his own changes, but they wouldn't have been this wholesale, and consistently incorrect.
  5. Really did not like that ending to smackdown, was abrupt, awkward, and poorly set up. Put a big damper on a good story. On top of the timing just being weird, it made Randy's actions from previous weeks make less sense. And since when did they allude to Sister Abigail literally being a corpse that he gained power from. Did I miss the part where they mentioned or alluded to their even being a shed that he was in, let alone that Randy wanted to get inside it? For one, I think Randy being in a real trance he had to snap out of was a far better and the only logical way to go. And if they had to do it as him being undercover this was the weirdest/worst way they could have done it. That was one of my least favourite segments in a while.
  6. Sausage Party was horrible. Rouge one was also awful. Haven't seen Girl on the Train, but I agree with this list.
  7. They could. It's just whether its worth paying him that amount or not. Because it's a lot.
  8. The show Cardinal has been pretty great. Like HBO good. And it was made for CTV. It didn't need to be this good, but the people who created it have been killing it so far. It has been acted very well. Written very well. And it was shot crazy well (like this is some of my favourite cinematography I've seen on TV) I think it took some good cues from True Detective season 1. Though it has its own faults I don't think it carried over any from that show. The lulls in the show have come in the middle episodes of this mini-series, particularly when focusing on the killers point of view and story. They drag things down when they appear. But the set up and the execution by everything that bookends them has been great. Hard to focus on what was "meh", when episode 1 and 5 were as good as they were. The finale. episode 6, is airing next week, and I can't wait. Would highly recommend the series. Again, it's way beyond any expectations I would place on a Canadian made production intended for a Canadian Network channel.
  9. That wedding segment on Impact last night was gold. Was cheering for the heels though, so I was disappointed for Chelsea Green/Laurel Van Ness. She looked choked, lol. Impact on the whole has been continuing to roll well. Wonder what the new tapings will bring with all the behind the scenes creative and authority changes. Kinda disappointed they probably changed their minds about bringing Alberto Del Rio into the fold. Dude is a great wrestler. They should get him if they can.
  10. John Wick 2 - 8/10 Had most of what made the most movie great, but it lacked a bit of that sparkle. Probably because the newness to the world of the movie wasn't there this time. It's a lot like The Empire Strikes Back to the original movie's New Hope. Both in terms of style, storytelling, tone, and my just not liking it as much as its predecessor, lol. But, there's a lot to like. It's more intense, and the action is of a more "non-stop" variety. At the very least it sets up for what will be a very different third movie.
  11. Raw was very, very good though. That Festival of Friendship segment is the best executed one they've had in forever. Everything about it was spot on. It was the most sympathy I think I've felt for someone in a wrestling situation, ever. That Samoa Joe/Zayn thing, along with the Women's Title main event made for a solid night.
  12. Re: The elimination chamber, I was not a fan of Naomi winning. Does everyone just get "you deserve it" chants on their first win now? Not that she didn't work hard or anything, but it's one of those cases where others have worked just as hard, or even harder, and have far more talent/more to offer in that position. Her wrestling is mediocre, and her matches have no flow. She's equal to or worse on the mic than the worst people they have in Natalya and Nikki. She just brings nothing to the table. I don't want to see her have a reign for the sake of her having a reign. The Women's division is really shallow though, so I guess everybody will eventually get their turn at it. With Bray though, I was happy for him. I think that chant was better served here, But it was heavily implied by fan atmosphere. If Cena mandates a 16th and 17th run before he goes away, I'm happy that this one was the ultimate throw away.
  13. http://flavorwire.com/537887/who-said-it-presidential-hopeful-donald-trump-or-idiocracy-president-camacho Who Said It: Presidential Hopeful Donald Trump or ‘Idiocracy’ President Camacho? Film | By Jason Bailey | September 16, 2015 The next big Republican presidential debate is this evening, and we’re off-the-charts excited — not in anticipation of any substantial policy discussions, and certainly not in anticipation of anything resembling the democratic process at work, but for the sideshow. After all, the frontrunner in the field is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog made flesh, a comically bouffanted racist oligarch who tweets like a fifth grader and brags like a cafeteria rapper. Watching him work the crowd at that first debate last month, your film editor could only think of one real parallel to the experience: the scenes in Mike Judge’s cult hit Idiocracy that find Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho (Terry Crews), “five-time Smackdown champion, porn superstar, and President of the United States,” firing off his machine gun in a speech to the “House of Representin’,” and issuing policy decrees like, “$&!#. I know $&!#’s bad right now, with all that starving bull$&!#, and the dust storms, and we’re running out of French fries and burrito coverings. But I got a solution.” So, just for fun, we dug up some Camacho quotes, and put them side-by-side with the Donald’s. Can you tell the difference? 1. “Remember, new ‘environment friendly’ light bulbs can cause cancer.” 2. “I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created, I tell you that.” 3. “I will build a great wall — and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me.” 4. “I beat China all the time. All the time.” 5. “If there is one word to describe Atlantic City, it’s Big Business. Or two words — Big Business.” 6. “Listen, you mother&^@#ers, we’re going to tax you 25 percent!” 7. “This very expensive GLOBAL WARMING bull$&!# has got to stop.” 8. “Sorry losers and haters, but my IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it!” 9. “So you’re smart, huh? I thought your head would be bigger. Looks like a peanut!” ANSWERS: 1. Trump. 2. Trump. 3. Trump. 4. Trump. 5. Trump. 6. Trump. 7. Trump. 8. Trump. 9. The one and only Camacho quote. Happy debate night!
  14. They did. I'm way more upset about the vaudvillains in that respect though. For anyone who went to Abbotsford, if you heard the one guy marking out for Viktor in the nosebleeds, that was me.
  15. I dunno. That was the first smackdown in months i didn't fast forward through. Only the main event was largely skipped. And that couldn't get me down because Victor of the ascension actually won a match. That was the biggest pop of the year for me so far. (Im not entirely being sarcastic). But yeah, i liked it. Was better than the rumble go home and fallout last week.
  16. Last night's wwe show was kind of a bust. Better main event, (I'll take Dean Ambrose going over to end the night rather than Cena or Reigns 11 times out of 10), but it wasn't as fun overall. Probably in large part because I didn't meet and watch a freshly debuting wrestler like Styles last year. There wasn't a real hook to it of any kind this time. My favourites are mostly on Raw too, so despite having people to cheer in essentially every match, I wasn't particularly enthused for anyone (besides AJ). It's a cut down roster, especially so with Orton not showing up. Even Becky wasn't there. But for some reason Ellsworth was there to prevent me from cheering on Carmella. All that, plus it started really, really slow. To the point where 5-10 minutes into the fourth match (between Harper and Wyatt) I was discussing with those I went to about whether or not the wrestlers were even authorised to do any moves (they were literally avoiding doing anything besides headlocks.) The usos were the worst at this, killing that opening tag team gauntlet match where it stood with their lack of anything. That fourth match quickly picked up and was easily the match of the night. And the latter half of the show wasn't nearly as plodding as the first. So overall I'd give it a very average grade. Fighting the weather as it was to get there from Vancouver, it tipped the scales more heavily towards not being worth it. Also the merch became overpriced, lol.
  17. Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter - 8.5/10 Legit loved this movie. Loved the way it was shot (the stationary framing and the hanging shots.) Loved being bewildered by the events as they happen. Loved the ending. Was a weird and facinating look into depression, isolation, and obsession. Reminded me in some indirect way the movie Hanna. Mainly in the presentation (because the characters and story are incredibly different, other than them being distant and awkward). And I also low key loved Hanna.
  18. He's having his revenge match for getting screwed out of the royal rumble. He was third place, but elliminated by someone who was already out. He probably will win the title eventually.
  19. He may have relived the same day every day for possibly 20-something years. But I'm starting to catch up with how many times I've lived it with him.
  20. Speaking of ASW though, show on February 11th in Cloverdale has a Jeff Cobb vs. El Phantasmo vs. Kenny Lush main event. Should be great. Will be going there as well.
  21. The only reason I got up and drove there last minute was his appearance. Without him, it was a no go. But again, everything besides the face of the company going over in the main event, it was fun. I just enjoy watching wrestling live, and even if it's $10 more than ASW or ECCW it's only once a year. I wish it was in Vancouver, and I wish it were Raw or something, but those who went last year wanted to go again. So we are. No new AJ styles like debit, but hey, no Cena either. Hopefully.
  22. Groundhog Day - 10/10 I don't know how many times I've reviewed this movie here, but I love rewatching it. It's a unique specimen. There's not a lot of movies that get better every time I watch it. Sure there are some that demand a repeat viewing for a better understanding, but for every one of those, there's 5 whose flaws become more apparent. And of those that demand repeat viewings, I don't think there's a single one that got better moving from viewing 45 to 46. I do wonder how many times he lived that last specific perfect day, but I like to think it was just once. Edit: there's an all day marathon going on AMC for this. It's a nice touch, lol.
  23. Anyone going to the wwe live show in Abbotsford next monday? Atm they have most of the Smackdown roster minus John Cena announced, so that's a double bonus. Should be good. The biggest drag in the last one was the Reigns main event, so having a different kind of ending should be great. It's still advertised as a Miz vs Ambrose vs Styles main event for the wwe title, but the title changing hands mixes things up a bit.
