  1. Not a total disaster. TRUMP got his usual weekend rounds of golf in. /s
  2. Hopefully the investigation will bring ALL who were involved to justice. Hopefully. LINK Case against Jeffrey Epstein dismissed following his death U.S. District Judge Richard Berman had said at a hearing on Tuesday that he was legally bound to dismiss the case. Prosecutors said at that hearing that an investigation into Epstein’s alleged crimes would continue, and that the dismissal would not prevent them from charging possible co-conspirators in the future.
  3. Expect to see a few more of these in the coming weeks as those who fail to qualify for the next round of debates will see the writing on the wall. Hopefully a certain someone will also drop out and run for their states US Senate seat. LINK Gillibrand exits presidential race
  4. We are so behind in research due to the decades long war on drugs. It was so difficult to even get approval to do the research. Thankfully Canada legalized so real, thorough research can actually be done.
  5. There in is the problem. We humans are willfully causing damage to our environment that is contributing to anthropogenic climate change. Yet when debate about climate change comes up, we humans and our activities are not the problem. Yet, the science, like a recent article in Nature, says otherwise. This source summarizes the Nature article (behind a paywall). Article
  6. This is what happens when you elect a joke for a leader. The rest of the world calls you out. SOURCE Brazilian minister booed at climate event as outcry grows over Amazon fires Political storm over rainforest devastation as Ricardo Salles attends summit
  7. The inevitable happened. Now, if only the other candidates who others have hinted should run for their respective US Senate seats would just do the same. Source Hickenlooper announces Senate bid Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D), who last week ended his 2020 presidential campaign, announced on Thursday that he will seek a seat in the U.S. Senate. "I'm not done fighting for the people of Colorado," he said in a video attacking Washington over pre-existing conditions, prescription prices and the opening of public land to developers. "I don't think Cory Gardner understands that the games he's playing with Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are hurting the people of Colorado," he said, referring to Colorado's incumbent Republican senator, the president and the Senate majority leader, respectively. "We ought to be working together to move this country forward and stop the political nonsense," he added. Hickenlooper noted in a statement when he dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary that he was giving "serious thought" to challenging Gardner. He was one of several Democrats running for president who had come under intense pressure to give up their White House ambitions in favor of a Senate run as the party hopes to chip away at the GOP's 53-47 majority or retake the upper chamber. Gardner is widely considered to be one of the most vulnerable Republican senators up for reelection next year, especially given Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's victory over Trump in Colorado in 2016. The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election handicapper, rates the race as a "toss up." Though Hickenlooper will certainly enter the Senate race as a top-tier contender, particularly given his high name recognition from his eight years as Colorado governor, reports have surfaced that his standing may have taken a hit in the state over his failed White House bid as he enters a primary crowd that already includes roughly a dozen candidates. An adviser to another Democrat in the race told Politico that Hickenlooper will "have to prove his mettle." "John Hickenlooper is desperate to redeem himself after flopping on the national stage, but we think he said it best just a few months ago: he is 'not cut out' for the Senate,'" said National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. "This crowded Senate field has been in a race to the left and Hickenlooper's quixotic presidential bid did not do him any favors in proving he can compete in any race in 2020." Hickenlooper repeatedly dismissed speculation earlier this year as his presidential campaign struggled to gain traction that he would consider a Senate bid should he fail to secure the Democratic nomination. "I'm not cut out to be a senator," Hickenlooper said in February. "Senators don't build teams. Senators sit and debate in small groups, which is important, right? But I'm not sure that's my - I'm a doer. That's what gives me joy."
  8. I think Inslee realized that he wasn't going to make the next round of debates as he had no polls with him at 2% of above. It's getting pretty slim for Gabbard to sneak in. LINK Washington governor Jay Inslee drops out of 2020 presidential race Democrat who had built his campaign around tackling climate crisis says it was clear he would not win Here is the list of who has qualified for the September Debates Source Here's who has qualified for the September debates so far (CNN)The third round of Democratic primary debates, hosted by ABC and Univision, will take place the second week of September. Presidential candidates have until late August to reach polling and grassroots fundraising thresholds set by the Democratic National Committee. Candidates must receive contributions from at least 130,000 individuals, coming from at least 400 unique donors in 20 or more states. They also need to reach 2% in at least four DNC-approved polls. So far, 10 candidates have met both thresholds, qualifying them for the debates scheduled for September 12 and 13: Former Vice President Joe Biden New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker Mayor Pete Buttigieg Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro California Sen. Kamala Harris Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren Businessman Andrew Yang Additionally, there are now 14 Democrats who say they have met the fundraising threshold. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, billionaire Tom Steyer, Washington Gov. Jay Insee and author Marianne Williamson have reached the fundraising threshold, but still need to hit their polling minimum to qualify. Steyer has received three of his four necessary polls, Gabbard has two, while Inslee and Williamson have none. All other candidates haven't reached above 2% in any qualifying polls. The DNC requires that all polls be conducted by an approved pollster, released between June 28 and August 28, 2019, conducted nationally or in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and/or Nevada, and fit a certain question structure. The candidate must get above 2% support in four or more polls of this nature, and they cannot be conducted by the same pollster in the same region.
  9. Cue the people who assert that humans do not have any responsibility for the current warming trend. Anthropogenic Global Warming is a myth to these people, even though deforestation and subsequent burning of the Amazon is the work of mankind. This deforestation plays a role in global warming. But hey, facts over feelings right?
  10. Dual citizens can have their Canadian citizenship stripped. Stripping someone of single citizenship and making them stateless is against international law. I don't want to live in a Canada that does that. You seem all to amiable to going down that illegal road. Sad.
  11. I don't need a crystal ball. The only reason you settle (pay) is that there is a high likelihood of losing. The only reason the lawyers recommended the $10 million is there was a high likelihood of the judgment and cost of the trial being higher. It's one reason why TRUMP settled the TRUMP University case and this is why Khadr got what he got. I don't like it. You don't like it. However, I'm able to see the forest for the trees. Kinda sad your bias won't let you see.
  12. Only if the Supreme Court rules that the Canadian Government violated his rights. That happened in the Khadr case, and that is the #1 reason why the government settled Khadr's civil case saving taxpayers like you and me money. Please tell me how this in this case his rights as a Canadian Citizen were violated??
  13. Ya, kinda sucks considering the whole terrorism part was only added recently, and only applies to dual citizens. Since he lost his British citizenship, he is no longer a dual citizen and we are stuck with him. LINK Grounds for revoking citizenship Canadian law allows for revocation in certain circumstances. Subsections 10(1) and 10.1(1) of the Citizenship Act provide that a person’s citizenship or renunciation of citizenship may be revoked if the person obtains, retains, renounces, or resumes citizenship by false representation; fraud; or knowingly concealing material circumstances. Citizenship may also be revoked if a person (who is a dual citizen), before or after the coming into force of subsections 10(2) and 10.1(2) and while the person was a Canadian citizen, was convicted of terrorism, high treason, treason, or spying offences, depending on the sentence received; or served as a member of an armed force of a country or as a member of an organized armed group and that country or group was engaged in armed conflict with Canada Revocation and Canada’s international obligations Article 8 of the United Nations Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness states that a state is not in breach of its obligations should it render a person stateless for having obtained the status through fraud or misrepresentation. In order to comply with Canada’s obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, subsection 10.4(1) of the SCCA provides that revocation of citizenship on the grounds of being convicted of terrorism, high treason, treason, or spying offences, or of being a member of an armed force or organized armed group engaged in armed conflict with Canada will apply only to persons with dual citizenship. The Minister must have reasonable grounds to believe that the person is a citizen of another country before pursuing revocation under these grounds. Subsection 10.4(2) of the SCCA provides that the onus rests with the individual to prove, on a balance of probabilities, that they are not a citizen of another country.
  14. There are a series of very specific reasons why Khadr got his settlement. Probably #1 would be the Supreme Court ruling that his rights were violated. I don't see how this case is in any way similar.
  15. Wasn't going to win, but probably would give the Dems a good shot at winning the Colorado Senate seat. There are others in the Dem field who should also drop out shortly and run for their respective states US Senate seat. LINK AP source: John Hickenlooper to end 2020 bid on Thursday
  16. The punishment it to have a never ending stream of knuckle dragging CONservatives complain about it because damned if I can figure out if they have any new, workable ideas.
  17. I'll spell it out for ya, so you won't continue to think this weak retort of yours is valid. I have a problem with what both Scheer did AND with what JT did. So should you. The whole point of my post was to illustrate that Scheer is not a saint when it comes to corruption, and so this complaining about SNC-Lavalin should not be the reason to run and vote Scheer.
  18. I would say nothing. Politicians longer than we've been alive have put the interests of big business forward. While this scandal was dropping, Scheer had secret meetings with oil executives. They say it was about election strategy, just like the TRUMP tower meeting was about adoption laws. So maybe base your choice in the election based on other factors. LINK Scheer Downplays Closed-Door Election Strategy Meeting With Oil Execs "I meet with people all the time."
  19. I guess we should ask him to spell something easy. Like, potato.
  20. Crazy "socialist" Bernie Sanders. What a bunch of crazy policies he pushes.
  21. Probably because the MAGA crowd has been hinting that he was wacked by team Clinton. They might as well turn those red MAGA hats to tin foil ones.
  22. " The Clinton's did it," says the crowd who parrot facts over feelings. Evidence otherwise this meme is completely valid.
  23. Thought I would put this here to provide the GOP position on Healthcare. Breaking news. It is the same, tired B.S. they have been spewing for years with no real plan on how to improve Healthcare, unlike the Democratic candidates for the nomination. https://thinkprogress.org/lindsey-graham-vows-obamacare-repeal-if-gop-takes-control-2020-1e14cdc2267a/ Lindsey Graham vows to repeal Obamacare if GOP takes control in 2020 The South Carolina senator did not learn the lessons of 2018.
