Would they do Eriksson for Myers + Brock? Serious here. I know I know we would have Eriksson for 11.5 for 2 years the same years as the big OEL penalty. I feel like at that point we should be getting a big push from our pipeline. Guys like Lekkerimaki, Wally, D Petey, Bains, Raty, Klim, Bloom and the cap going up we should be able to make it work.

    Sousy Karlsson

    Hughes Cole

    Brisbois Hronek

With some good depth in Hirose, McWard, Johansen, Wolainen, Woo, Rathbone, Juulson.

We could play track meets. And still have a respectable PK with Sousy, Cole, Breezer back there. It's not really conventional but in true Canuck fashion we would be a hell of a regular season team. Probably draw a lot of PPs catching guys flat footed.

To be fair I think Minnitian was a steal at that spot.

That pick was a tough one for me the next 10 or so players were mostly guys I had been looking at for our 3rd rounders.

Seeing as I'm not at all familiar with Muller I am happy to wait and see. It will sting a bit tho if Ciernik Minnitian etc turn into players.

Fights are whatever, but the hit totals were a result of our horrible possession play.  You throw more hits chasing the play than you do if you we're in control of the puck.

While it remains to be seen if our defensive play and PK improve, the new additions provide some versatility and size that should make a difference compared to last season.

Normally I'd agree but Luke didn't seem to chase hits.

Re The Perkins Pick I'm just curious. I know we left Minnetian on the board there and he was your horse. There were some fantastic picks that followed Perkins.

Cirenik has that unbelievable speed. Caught my attention at the u18 in 2021 so I made sure to watch him at the U20 this year and catch a few games in the Allsven and he continued to impress me. I thought his skating alone would make him a 2nd rounder.

Juha Jaktola G 20yo overager I thought Clarke may be pounding the table for him. He had an incredible season in Liiga.

    Cam Squires I'm not familiar.

LD Luca Cagnoni home run swing LD. I did not expect him to be on the board at all.

Beckett Hendrikson you seem to follow NTDP pretty closely.

    Of course Minnitian

and then a bit further down.

Carter Sotheran RD, Big, fast, mean, skilled boxes ticked

Cam Allen RD(Boy oh boy did he drop),

Eric Pohlkamp RD what a WJAC

Curious other than Minnitian if there was another guy here you really wanted in the gap to Celebrini.

I know Hughes and Hronek are both considered offensive Dmen, and some might question putting together two ODs, but they're the best skaters and the best D on the team, so why not? That is a high end D pairing. Chances are, if they don't have the puck, they'll get it .

Get it? like dig it out of the back of our net?

    that’s for PTSD…

    not the Canucks Drafting….

    Oh, wait….

Keep writing, and don’t let up until you can stop hearing the footsteps of past drafts…

The anxiety and or reason to doubt is ridiculously valid, especially when this team drafts a defence and with the first over all pick..,

Go knock on wood three times…

Now I am anxious and oh, shit….

How long until we hear this on the CDC….

’He hasn’t signed yet, he’s is going to take the college opt out path and sign somewhere not here….!’

I hope we never do, but it’s the CDC..,

I think this kid is legit and after the 3 rd, I have zero idea what they were thinking, thus Tootsie’s is my theory…

it’s at least funny as f#$k

I dunno about Tootsie but to me it looks like Todd Harvey feels confident they stuck to their plan and got the players they wanted. He looks thrilled as a pig in poopie

I sure hope that smile on his face means he knows a whole bunch most people don't. They have done quite well in terms of scouting the semi pro ranks. With Hirose, Bains, Mcward, Johansen, Juulson, Raty, Aman, Kravtsov?

I think they have earned some benefit of the doubt on Muller/Perkins

after next season everyone will be super excited even the draft benson omg camp

Well I'm not the draft Benson camp.

I'm stoked on the Willander pick. I also have the same vibes as the Juolevi pick though desperate for a D and kinda feel like we reached beyond what was reasonable.

I'm not going to be a wet blanket though I got behind the Juolevi pick and I'll be behind this one. Damn excited we got the best D on the board. OMG though if But turns into the next big thing.

I am in full trust mode right now it feels like our staff our beaming about this pick so Im in full belief mode that they have done their diligence. We stole Willander.

So would it be correct to say that if either Poolman/Pearson are healthy in the fall,  we're in trouble?  There must be additional moves coming,  no?

    this.

Even if they don't. Spending that ltir would be pretty ballzy considering we have to extend Pete Hronek and fill an absolute ton of roster spots next year. Thought we bought out OEL to get ourselves out of cap hell.

  10. re posting

With the complete benefit of hindsight I still can't make up my mind.

    Round 1

Pick 11: PWF Daniil But/ Happy with Willander would have gone But though

    Round 3

Pick 75: W Juraj Pekarcik/ Hunter was a great pick but I've been hoping for Pekarcik all year I would have taken him.

Pick 89: LD Artu Karki/ LD Terrell Goldsmith probably the scariest dude in the draft those hands are grenades.

    Round 4

Pick 105: RD Cam Allen/ RD Bogdan Konyushkov

Pick 107: C Luca Pinelli/ LW Alex Ciernik

Pick 119: RD Arem Minnetian/ RD Carter Sotheran

There were 4 really good RD available to us in the 4th and 2 home run dinger fwds

    Round 6

Pick 171: C Zeb Forsfjall/ LD Kristian Kostadinski/ LD Oskar Asplund/ LW Emil Jarventie

Some incredible value picks still on the board all of these guys I would have been thrilled with in the 3rd/4th.

I don't hate how the draft went I think our 4th and beyond was very questionable but having a tantrum about 4ths is silly.

Hopefully some of the higher end undrafteds (like Asplund) will be getting invites to development camp.

Masden Leslie (50 point RHD with good size who played in our own backyard with the Giants) would be another undrafted kid worthy of an invite. Really surprising he wasn’t picked. Some people had him ranked as high as the third round.

    https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/565459/mazden-leslie

Prince George’s Hudson Thornton is another WHL defenceman who’d be worth a look. Went undrafted for the second year in a row, despite earning some high rankings (Malloy #87; EP #101) as a re-entry, and posting a 74 point season in his D+1.

    https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/483418/hudson-thornton

Absolutely. I most certainly thought Leslie was a great target for a 3rd or 4th

We have past moment the moment of rebuilding and there’s no trade out there for Miller that makes this team better next year.

who says we aren't re building? We have 6M cap space with a 17 man roster and a D  that consists of

    Hughes Hronek

    Brize Myers

and the OEL buyout penalty looming next year.

You never really know what you are getting in a player beyond the first round.  If you go back in the most recent years and look at the players who end up making the NHL taken from the 4th round and beyond, you start to notice a lot of overaged draft picks.  Now I wouldn't call any of these kids striking gold, but they are players that amounted to be some of the best in their range.

In 2020, the best pick taken after the 3rd round (so far) is Nils Aman who was drafted by the Av's as an overager.
In 2019 the three best picks taken after the 3rd round (so far) have been Maccelli, Parssinen, and Harvey-Pinard.  Harvey-Pinard was an overager taken by the Canadians.
In 2018, the best pick taken  after the 3rd round (so far) was Sharangovich. Yep you guessed it he was overager taken by the Devils.
In 2017, the two best picks taken after the 3rd round have been Batherson and Aho(d).  Sebastian Aho the defenseman was taken by the islander as an overager.

Who knows, maybe this year was the year a Kaprizov or Gaudreau slipped through the cracks but I don't think you can claim it was a waste or the players will never amount to anything because they were overagers.  Ondre Palat, Viktor Arvidsson and Devon Toews were also overagers picked within the last 10 years.

    https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/627775/bogdan-konyushkov

Bogdan Konyushkov 20yo RD exploded into the KHL this year. Having a whale of a regular season as a rookie and then going on to score at 0.5ppg in the playoffs voted one of the 4 best players in the 2nd round of the Gagarin cup.

    https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/509851/oskar-asplund

Oskar Asplund LD. Passed over in last years draft went on an absolute tear this year. Posting 30 points in 49 Allsven games yes you read that right. Well ahead of several high profile picks from last years draft. Shocked Oskar went undrafted again.

    Just sayin.

If he hits, his ceiling is definitely higher than Hamhuis. And that’s no slight on Hammer. You may see a Pesce/McAvoy/Andersson. Not to mention he models his game after Heiskanen. You can see in his eyes he has the drive to be the best. Very excited to follow his development at BU.

But can he throw a hip check?

I'm stoked he could be a fantastic partner for Hughes. Will we still have Hughes by the time he's ready??
