Motte is not quite there but a close second.

Obviously having a few superstars helps, but a mix is just as important. I'd be interested to see a Garland, Motte, Dorsett, Ferland in primes on this team. Nothing beats pure talent, but 110% effort always, and heart is contagious.

Well I still remember his goals again Vegas so I know he has a lot more skill to be tapped.. that left wing goal was much like CoHo on Tim Thomas.. what a rocket, my jaw dropped and it reminded of that

IF Bo gets traded I nominate Garland for Captain.

He is a very under rated player, 18 points in 24 games. Annoys the heck out of the other team, but does it without going dirty, an honorable pest? with talent.

    Works hard .

J.B. can find some good ones.

almost, I'd give the C to Miller and an A to Garland if your going to go there..

Some?   it's like talking talking to someone who is dual personality, sell the team or plan the parade, all depending if we won or lost that night.... same ole though, been this way for years but mix in, sell the farm and win it all NOW, well didn't that work out golden? more like plastic but...

Kinda funny how Hugh's game went a little south when he left to win another cup.

Now back and Quinn's starting to get back to his potential.

Some of the best defenseman of all time (points best), were horrible leaders.

Good job Schenn, guerenteed Hugh's will throw you some respect with his Norris trophy(s) speech.

When his D game takes a major step forward (with experience) that could very well be the case but pretty sick skills offensively..

Benning is responsible for Green at this point.  Either he's not allowed to hire an NHL coach or he considers Green's performance acceptable.  Either way, he's got to go as well.

No I think, like everyone, JB was thinking TG was a good coach for our young guys and somehow inspired our playoff run and he'd be even better with better weapons at his disposal and most thought it was a decent move but then here we are.. imo a calculated risk to see if we could have a very good coach and succeed even better with our young guys performing better than a coach who wasn't since we had/have a young team.. and actually to my rememberance even the media also agreed TG was a good hire since we were still rebuilding and have to rely on our youth.

This is true to this day, if we get a coach that isn't very good working with a younger team, we're screwed, and will stay that way until we have 2-3-4+ years on the core.. no thanks...

At the rate Podz is scoring he could have a 20 goal season.

Not a bad way to first year the NHL, seems to me he knew he needed work to play in the world's best hockey league and knowing he had a good shot but like Bo coming in, he seems to be working on his D game as well to be more than just offence-minded and not put a world of pressure on himself either by trying to score tons of goals. THAT is just fine with me, i'll take that all day...

Podkolzyn likes high on the short side, great shot but you'd have to think that it'll be addressed by pre game scouts

I noticed that too BUT a few were having to shoot in that area according to where in the crease the goalie was and that's pure sniping ability, wait until he starts ramping it up. It doesn't look to me he's anywhere near that point yet but as his reads get better and he gains confidence, that will be something to watch! I see the same in Klim.. thinking we should be nothing but happy Podz is essentially a Toffoli in the making except tougher. and actually now that I think about it, same for Klim.

Might be able to trade another roster forward for a Dman next season IF Klim can be to his potential and works on his D game he'd make a 3rd line combination a double threat.

Or in my dreams make, 2nd line.. wow yes please!

tick tick tick....  TG shouldn't have even been the coach in the first place, he had a good record with the young guys so since most of the new core was young I can see why he was hired but should have been the assistant coach not the coach. He could have learned from an old pro and stepped in later with experience like that but it's still not too late, anyway it was a good try, just time to make him an assistant or gone. Benning has slowly put a good team together, and TG seemed to be able to motivate this team vs Vegas but since? no idea...

I want to have a genuine and honest conversation with those who still support current management. I recognize there has been a major shift here on this forum with regards to supporting Jim Benning and co. After running off the highs of taking Vegas to Game 7, the majority of fans on this forum still heavily supported Jim and co. Jim Benning slander was usually downvoted to oblivion and met with confrontation and disgust up until the 2020 offseason. Several people were downvoted or confronted for suggesting that the Canucks could a step back with limited cap space and several key players needing new contracts.

The turning point for myself was when Jim traded Bonino for Sutter: gave up arguably the better player on a cheaper contract, lost value in the draft pick exchange, proceeded to call Sutter a "foundational" player, signed him to a major extension without Sutter ever playing a single game for us. This was 6 years ago in 2015. This series of transactions raised major red flags for me and the subsequent moves after really sealed the deal - Jim Benning is the not the right guy for the job.

After an abysmal year from the Canucks, a terrible cap sheet, and an average/below-average prospect pool to look forward to, many have shifted their opinions and want to clean house. For those who still support management, can I ask why?

On a results basis: The Canucks have one of the worst records in the league since Benning took over, while spending to the cap every year. The Canucks have had one playoff round win in seven years. The Canucks are about to finish as a bottom tier team despite having our "core" pieces in place. Even BEFORE the Covid outbreak, the Canucks were unlikely to make the playoffs. Yes, Petterson has missed a lot of games, but every team has injuries. If you want to build a winning team, you need depth, depth and more depth. For those who look to Covid and the Petterson injury as excuses, why? We were bad before Covid and if your team relies on ONE guy to keep your season afloat, then your team is not very good to begin with.

On a process basis: If results were poor, but the process was defined and executed, I wouldn't even be mad. Jim and co have proven time and time again, that their really is no clear direction. Seven years in and there has never been consistent messaging or moves that aligned. This management truly operates on a day-to-day basis. How can a management team running a near billion dollar business have no consistent plan or long-term outlook? Are we re-building? Are we trying to be competitive? Are we re-tooling? Why give up assets to acquire Toffoli and then not offer a contract? Why give another aging forward (who's having a bad season) a 3 year extension with a flat cap? If we are trying to compete, why did we not ship out Virtanen in the offseason and use that money to keep a Tanev or a Toffoli? Virtanen was abysmal in the playoffs and barely played - it was clear that the fit wasn't there anymore.

On a relationship management basis: Jim and management have proven time and time again, that they do not work well with others and have the thinnest front office in the league. They have outed several talented individuals in the organization (Brackett, Linden, Gillman etc.). It was recently reported that Jim and Weisbroad pushed back on Courtnall being in an advisory role. It's clear that Jim and co do not want voices in the room and clearly want yes-men supporting their operation. It's now looking like Ian Clark won't even be re-signed, one of the most important coaches will not be retained this year - another talented member of the organization looking to be on the way out. Jim has and co have not been able to maintain a good relationship with the fans because of the constant inconsistent messaging and the amateur quotes like "day-to-day" and "run out of time".

On a transactions basis: This has been beaten to death and there's really no need to go over every transaction. Jim has made some good moves, but his negative transactions FAR outweigh in substance and quantity than the positive transactions. Most Jim supporters resort to his drafting ability as a get-out-of-jail card. Jim has been an above-average drafter for sure - he still missed big time on the Virtanen and Juolevi picks, setting this franchise back for years. So I can't really give Jim and A or an A+ in drafting. Despite his "above-average" drafting, his contracts and trades have mostly been below average to downright terrible.

Can I ask the management supporters, are you OK with Jim's "above-average" drafting ability to compensate all the other negatives he brings to the table? What's still giving you faith that Jim can still run this team successfully after 7 years of mostly failure? Are you willing to give Jim his 2 more years, for a 9 year plan? Most GMs never see 9 years or more unless they have delivered exceptional results - which Jim has definitely not done. Why not look to someone new for change? Why after 7 years, do you still want to run with this guy?

TLDR: I want to know why you still support the current management group. Why the patience? It's been 7 years now, why do we need to give him 2 more? We have a very large sample size to work with already. Why not seek someone new for a change?

lmfao!! we haven't had a sample size yet, we just got the team to where it's at after all the contracts from the MG era are officially gone last season so how the F can you call it a sample size, if JB came in and traded everyone as soon as he arrived you could say that but that was NOT THE CASE! listen to media much or do you come up with this on your own?

Well, I have to agree with you on Miller,   He's proven his worth (for now) and if he renews his contract with us, should hopefully provide us with a few more years of very good output.  Only time will tell if that #20 pick that Tampa got and used to draft SHAKIR MUKHAMADULLIN (in return for him), will prove to be better or not but for now that trade looks like a home run.  In fact I would advocate that Miller be made captain and replace Horvat who is too meek after being "Homoginized & Sanitized" too much by the Sedins, as we all know by know and after 25 years of overly influenced swedish/Euro Finesse hockey in this city, that - that style of hockey will never win us a cup, rather, Millers drive, grit and determination is just what we need on this team going forward.

Unfortunately the rumor mills have it that there is an "Alpha-Dog" issue in the locker room and I suspect it's the Miller camp Vs. the Horvat camp and that may end up deciding his fate.    Hope he stays and Bo is traded and not that I despise Bo, as he's a good player too, but we need to get some "grit and fight" on this team after 25 years of soft cream-puff Swedish/Euro Finesse style play so we can get some edge & grit battling to actually win a cup and not entertain us during the regular season with a few finesse plays here & there.

Getting back on point, I have to disagree with you on the "Cream-Puff team" issue.  We currently are a "Cream-puff" team, so there is no possibility of us going back to that - as we're allready there and have been for some time.  As for Uncle Jim, the proof is in the pudding.   Some trades and drafts have been good and some bad - HOWEVER - it has been 8 Years (soon to be 9) and we are even worse than when he took over in the last decade and that is the bottom line.    Everything else individually looked at in isolation is all smoke & mirrors and at some point you just have to look at the big picture & results and admit "it ain't working" and move on - and we are there now.    It was an interesting ride full of hope & promise and he may have won a few battles along the way but has ultimately lost the war and it's simply time to get off the train.

Baring some miracle (which I'd welcome too) , it's quite apparent based on the mess we're still in after almost a decade, that Jim Benning has unfortunately Failed.  Time to pull our pants up and move on......

We have a cream puff team with no pushback? that's so not true, this team has better pushback than we've had in ages.. but not really the point, the point is that we're 2 addition players short that we would have gotten with 2 cap raises and got 2 more D or 1 more D and signed Toffoli.. we'd be a lot better set up now, but that's where we're sitting now. For long? nope..

Realistically, our roster is young mixed with some vets and JB just plugged up with Chaisson etc BUT that's because not a lot of players available let alone ones who could come to Vancouver and put up with all the b.s.

Thankfully we drafted Klim and he might work out but as new players to surround the core even better especially with a D upgrade that's possible but as Podz or Klim steps up in place of Toffoli and we get another top 4 D and probably better coaching to get players playing their hearts out for the team EVERY night for 60 mins, not 20 or 40 but the build isn't quite done, we're in the same spot almost when JB went after Sutter, etc but now we're far enough ahead where we need D shored up and another venter who can PK with motte and win draws.

Dude we're not that far off... tearing it all down now would the worst move in franchise history.

Trading Bo? hmmm not sure about that one but he does have to go beast mode a lot more often but it seems like players are taking turns playing well most nights but not cohesive for everyone to do it every game, that will take time and player tweaks and if TG can't get it done, bye

Sorry not sure what point your trying to make ?

What does 40 years have to do with seeing that the team that has currently taken 8 years to assemble is completely terrible ? And to answer your question no - I have only watched the team for 18 years.

I also don't see what your point on the salary cap has to do with it.  Hell put McDavid on a ELC on this team and we still don't make the playoffs on current form.  Many other teams have beaten us with 3-4 of their best players out.

To be this bad - Either the locker room is lazy or disfunctional , the team composition is horrifically wrong, the coaching is bad to the point the players can't execute on it - or we are just cursed. This team is not working - we are not winning.

Now if they can turn it around and hit form with it - sure i'm happy for JB to trade our next 4 firsts if he wants - but he hasn't been able to prove to this end he can produce a winning roster - so why risk yet more collatoral on a regime that has not provided success over a very generous timeline.

ok 1 by 1, this team as it is today is a lot better, no not playing better "atm" but that will come since we're still new but this team sure has made some of our other rosters over the last 40 years look really bad, for now yes on paper BUT leading into 2, with the 10 mil we'd still have Toffi and probably picked up another D and simply with those 2 things we'd have looked a LOT better today and won more games.

So yes the cap has a lot to do with it, today we still miss that but thankfully JB, it seems to me took a gamble that Podz would come in and play his style of game but heavier.

And execution gets better and better the more we play, and add to that if we do pull off a trade and a pick, a D is all we really need as Garland came in better than expected.

Andddd next season, or maybe this season at some point we see Klim but for now this is still a work in progress but plug like players like chaisson, hunt will be gone as better players come available in the off season.

However I agree that it's on said roster as it is now, do we have to get better? sure, showing up for a game where we play a full 60 of hard skating pressure well executed hockey is the end all but again we're new so off to a slow and shaky start but I see it coming together.

Otherwise there's been glitches that have made it harder than it should have been and is, Alien and Hughes not signed, Podz new, Hamonic out, our 2 best PK's out.. was hardly anywhere near the start we wanted but what Im saying is, the cap not being available to keep Toffi and to sign a tough skilled D would have made a difference even if not a ton, some would have made it a lot easier.

I actually do not want to see any picks given unless it's full value, and get our D sorted out. There's enough talent up front that won't be stopped for too long before breaking out but we have to have that D man..

Green works too hard trying to get matchups he wants. Most of the time they are terrible matchups too like putting out his 4th line against the other teams 1st line on an icing call. Dump and chase too frequently gives way to dump and change.

This is a skill roster. They are fast but need to make plays to be effective. A quick transition game and attacking with speed while maintaining possession and setting up in the offensive zone.

This team will never be successful with a dump and chase style.

yes of course, if their still like this in 10-15 games, I wouldn't say anything BUT no team ever lives and dies on a single system but I think as players ease in with steady lines that can execute better passing by shortening them up and better support and not give away odd man rushes or penalties, we'll see more success but yeah it needs work..
