  1. I wonder how the “limiting of ferries” will affect Vancouver Island. Cap on capacity, or cancellation...?
  2. Poker re-runs ala NHL Lockout?
  3. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, forget what page. The whole country has been locked down for a month. Wuhan, for 52 days. The only reason numbers have now dropped to 13 (as of today), is because nobody is leaving their communities. Ordering food through community groups that essentially deliver to your door. If BC said tomorrow, no one can leave your house - then, yes, this would blow over. Problem is, that’s not going to happen - and of people are thinking everything will be fine, it’s going to get worse before better.
  4. I was someone who wasn’t too concerned about the initial outbreak in December/January - despite living in the epicenter. I imagined the 20-odd cases would go away and life would return to normal. But having lived through this whole thing in China, I can’t help but feel there is a lot of downplaying in other parts of the world until it’s too late. Will most people be fine? Yes. Is there a potential for a lot of deaths? Absolutely. Entire country’s medical systems are being ravaged by this, and it would be nice if there was just a little more preparations going on. Not travel bans-perse, but a recognition from the public that this $&!# is serious. Before it’s too late
  5. They are still reporting. The entire country has been basically on lock-down for a month. Wuhan, the epicenter, has been on lock-down for 52 days now. No one allowed to leave their area. Tell every person to not leave their home in BC for 2 months, and I'm sure BC will eventually get down to zero too! And now, all incoming arrivals to China of ANYONE from ANYWHERE must self-quarantine automatically for 14 days. I'm not saying that there probably haven't been under-reported cases due to people having mild symptoms and staying at home, but it's not a smoke-screen-show that many media members may wish to push.
  6. And there it is! Well, gives Marky some time to rest and heal up. Tanev too. Maybe Leivo and Beagle will be ready. Full roster! Gotta look on the bright side.
  7. Stanley Cup to be awarded on July 31st, 2020. Training Camp for 2020-21 begins August 1st.
  8. Definitely such a different cultural piece. Most people in Asia wear a mask when they are sick so as to prevent the spread to others - thinking of others. Before moving to China, I thought it was primarily about preventing pollution - but that's definitely not the case. So they'll come to work, but they'll do everything they can to prevent the spread to others, versus the sniffling / coughing / sneezing that takes place in Canada (which all of us are guilty of). And I think the mask situation is partly due to inability to provide for all healthcare providers. In China, they've mandated everyone wear a mask outside. That's a billion+ people wearing masks all of the time. They re-converted hundreds of factories to making masks to increase supply. That kind of capacity doesn't exist in North America - so what choice do the health care providers have? They need nurses/doctors to have access to masks (and even then, they will start to run out sooner than later, if numbers escalate quickly). If everyone else is hoarding masks in the same way as toilet paper, there won't be any for those that need it most (including those with high-risk co-morbidities)
  9. Not that I wish ill will upon others, but Duterte is being tested, Trump un-worried about being in contact with many of these cases...... there's still a chance!
  10. I've been locked in my apartment 52 days now. Watched nearly 300 movies; every Canuck game; read a bunch of novels ---- debating whether to do some online courses or pick up gaming again. My inner-introverted-hermit lifestyle has re-emerged!
  11. This article was an interesting read - speaks to the same concerns; lots of employers unaccustomed to "working from home", but the government mandated it, so they needed figure their $&!# out. “The Covid-19 outbreak is just another chance for companies to re-examine the relationship between companies and employees, and to elevate their corporate culture to be mutually beneficial.” https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20200309-coronavirus-covid-19-advice-chinas-work-at-home-experiment
  12. In China, cancer patients were being turned away from treatments, etc - due to no doctors. They also designated some hospitals specifically for coronavirus, with others continuing regular treatments. I don't know if N.A. has that capacity..... Vancouver Island has what - three-four primary hospitals? (Comox, Nanaimo, Victoria x2). Even if only 5% of the population on Vancouver Island got it - that's 43500 / 875,000 infected, with maybe 20% of that needing intense hospital / critical care treatments (~10000). That's on top of regular hospitalizations....
  13. But so intertwined - if numbers spread like crazy (which they likely will), then the number of patients that can be effectively treated is limited based on healthcare system capacity, and that's not even including all the patients who would miss out on treatments for other things. In Wuhan (where I live), they had to built a lot of temporary hospitals because there were no beds, all-hands-on-deck from health care professionals, import oxygen-therapy respirators (which not all hospitals had), etc. Obviously the density in China is much higher than in N.A., but there's still all of the components for this to spread significantly if it's not taken seriously.
  14. As someone living through it in Wuhan, China, and with family members in the health care profession back in BC, I can tell you that it seems it hasn’t hit close enough to home yet for you/colleagues if the medical community is saying this isn’t a major threat.
  15. Still too sloppy with defensive zone coverage. They’ve tried Myers with every imaginable partner, and they all look awful. But Ben and Fantenburg are #7s. I look forward to another big summer with fixing the d-core. If the Canucks can rid themselves of Sutter/Eriksson/Baertschi and have the exact same forward lineup as tonight (Beagle replacing Sutter), it would be great. Just an improved defense.
  16. I wonder if Motte is banged up again? He brings so much more energy than anyone else usually.... At least MacEwen remains in.
