  1. Seriously,...how did Torts get past the interview stage? Who stole the warning flags...that should have been waved? quare out-dated peg was a misfit from the start. he wasnt a cog to fix the machine,...he was a wrench that threw himself into the works to wreck the machine so he could build it his way,..he didnt even really try to work with all the parts he had. He alienated people... more than he tried to attract people to the greater cause. He even confessed to quitting on his team & his own methods in the end. Hope you enjoy that excessive payday....Torts. It was 1 very expensive lesson for the Aquilinis to learn ...to BUTT-OUT of the hockey-business....& leave the job of managing the team to Trev & JB, who are the truly the experts. And Gillis, too...he should have stuck to his guns more often...as all of his self-doubting & loss of focus had repercussions for more than just himself.

The last act of a desperado for Gillis...

  2. Bored much?

I can't wait to see what he can do with our young guys who contrary to the trolls are of as good a quality as we have ever had in the system, better than any I can think of.

    It is very likely 2 or 3 will make it this year maybe more;

Horvat, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Fox, Cassels, Friesen, Grennier and whoever our top pick is all have a good shot.

That's 8 players not including Jensen and JS (trade bait).

Hell 4 could make it if we don't do any trades.

  3. Willy Fox eh... got me thinking maybe Booth is crazy like a Fox, hunt a few bears, screw around abit on utube basically cruise through the contract on the injury reserve list or dog house until he was sure he would be bought out, then turn it on for 10 games so he can have a shot at getting resigned...

Boom a cool 4.75 Mil from us and 2 to 4? or 5?Million from ...let me guess... Florida...fun in the sun shootin' gators!

    time to go to bed...

  4. If the rumours are true and Chicago needs to get a center for Kane. Kesler is the best player available who also has an amazing cap hit and is of championship caliber. It is probably posturing, if I was Chicago I would jump all over it because seriously.. Kesler on Chicago would be insanely stacked. Would pretty much guarantee them a dynasty.

Exsctly a dynasty so why would we do it? It would have to be some huge package coming back.

  5. Kesler's gone by the draft, but looking more and more likely before. Much of the groundwork was laid at the deadline, so they're probably finishing up the short strokes on prospective deals, and it gives Benning more assets to work on moving up in the draft.

I'm sure Trevor at least will be hesitant to do an early trade and I think Benning would wait until draft day as well.

Why not line up a trade or two and pull the plug on them if something comes up last minute.

From the sounds of it (with Chicago being out on Kesler due to Benning's asking price) Benning wants a lot for Kes'

I suppose if he gets offered our collective wish of Etem plus the 10th and 24th picks then maybe do it early....

  6. Cause we suck. Can't hold leads can't score goals. Defence was so bad this year we scored a couple on ourselves. I bet we had more own goals this year then PP goals. Need some people who can score and defenders who know which net is ours. Or a coach that tells them "hey see that goalie with the same jersey as yours? Yeah, don't score on him".

Our own goals last year was so typical of our luck for the last 20 years or so,since the Messier fiasco.

There was a 2 game stretch where our best D Hammer had 3 goals go off him. Edler had a ton of own goals, even more than usual.

Beiksa had lots and even Tanev had one.

Poor Eddie, trying to keep a smile on that face with all the crap going on in front of him.

Tortz was a circus, we knew it would be, hell he probably knew it would be...

Nowhere but up from here, even if we dive next year and have to draft in the top 2...oh darn Eichel or McDavid.

    Nowhere but up.

  7. Just for the sake of arguing on the internet...

    Sweden vs. Russia= 4-3 Sweden

    Canada vs. Russia= 3-2 Russia

    Sweden vs. Slovakia= 6-2 Sweden

    Canada vs. Slovakia= 2-1 Canada

    Sweden vs. Germany= 9-3 Sweden

    Canada vs. Germany= 5-2 Canada

In these games Nylander got points on 11 goals. Canada as a team only scored 10 against the same teams.

    Sweden vs. Finland= 10-0 Sweden

Exploiting a much weaker team? For comparison, USA only beat Finland 4-3. Finland beat Switzerland 2-1. Switzerland beat USA 4-2.

As for Sweden vs. USA, Nylander got a point on the only goal Sweden scored. He looked dangerous whenever he had the puck. Even though it was a somewhat sloppy effort by his team (himself included), the fact that 3 minutes of his highlights were salvaged from a game where Sweden only scored one goal is only further proof to his skill level. Against Canada he could've had multiple points if it weren't for Mason MacDonald. The dude was stellar and was the main reason Canada won bronze. He had a 1.94 GAA and a 92.98 SV% in what was a pretty high scoring tournament.

Anyways.... my point is; he did rack up points against the weaker teams, but it's not like the competition level is THAT unbalanced. It's top division for a reason. If Nylander was only getting points because the teams he was playing were so weak, then why didn't other top players have as inane stats as him? Nylander got 16 points in 7 games. That's over 2 points a game. He got 6 more points in this tournament than the next in line (excluding Axel Holmstrom, who had 11 points, and conveniently played on the Nylander's line). A 6 point difference. That's as many points as Canada's leading scorer, Jake Virtanen, got the entire tournament. Sure, let's give him a pass because of his injury. 6 more points than Jack Eichel, who is projected to go head to head with McDavid for the 1st overall next year. Eichel had a marvelous tournament, don't get me wrong, but looking at USA's roster, should he not have gotten more?

Opened my eyes oh wise sage...

    Sam R. if possible though...

  8. We need to get the show on the road. Take a risk on an NHL ready prospect like Virtanen. Obviously he's out for the time being with injury, but all this cutesy player development stuff isn't working very well.

Virtanen is one of the youngest players in the draft so he would probably just be sent back to junior for another year anyway.

  9. Cosensus on possible players that we should pick around 6th now seems like this to me from the past several pages:

    MDC, Nylander, Draistal

One of those three will be around for pick 6 but the only can't lose pick in my mind is MDC.

He will be a great special teams/third liner at worst and has first line potential.

Nylander could fail completely or be a first line player.

Draistal will be a solid third liner at worst with still a small chance of total bust due to skating, etc.

Ritchie has fallen off the radar for some reason

  10. Benning wants a tougher team, that was what he said in his interview, not fighters but grittier players who can play with the big boys when going gets tough.

So it seems Ritchie will be the pick, maybe Virtanen but I am thinking Ritchie is the prototype he is looking for.

  11. I think Bergeron is closest to the game I expect Horvat to play.

The top penalty kill line, second powerplay, shutdown 2nd line center, best take away/give away ratio on the team, etc.,etc.

    Screams Bergeron...

  12. Bo might be the best all around of the 3 but he is not anywhere close to being as good as cassels at passing the puck. I have watched nearly all of London and Oshawa games this year and Cassels is without a doubt the better passer of the 2.

That's great, I haven't seen Cassels much but Bo cam make some pretty nice, sneeky passes around the net and breakout passes too, so if Cassels is better we are in good shape for setup men in a year or two.

  13. Horvat is built a bit like Toews. He's not big but he is rugged and doesn't get pushed around. His size is very average.

Jensen's size is also average but he isn't nearly physical enough

Gaunce is big but I don't see him fit in the top 6. He'll probably be a very solid 3c

So yea we don't have enough big-skilled guys

Jensen is 6' 3'' and 202 as per the Canucks page, Gaunce is 6' 2" and 207, Horvat is 6' and 206.

So Jensen is the tallest and Gaunce and Horvat are about the same weight, probably all three now because I think Jensen has put on some muscle since the start of the season.

  14. Our skill level has gone downhill and we only have one big guy that has skill. We need what Ehlers and Ritchie can bring. The simple thing to do would be to trade for Anaheim's pick and draft both. However, they both play LW and we already have Shink on LW. So that means we can only get one. I see Shink on our first line so that leaves a hole in the second line. I see Horvat centering that 2nd line so the question now becomes, who compliments Horvat better? I think that someone would be Ritchie.

    Ritchie - Horvat - Kassian

    maaan that is sick nasty

    That line might work.

Thing is if Ehler can't handle the rough stuff on the first or second line he can't play.

If Ritchie can't raise his game enough for top two line duty he can still play on the bottom lines.

Pretty much can't lose, same for Virtanen.
