There's always been the Sutter's and the Staals, even the Gretzky's and the Hulls for hockey brothers/family's. I just think in the past if the brother was crappy you didn't hear too much about him. After this weekend you see teams making an effort to bring specific players to a team almost just to please people and make it an interesting story (Dach, Jones, Doan)

One thing that I don't think people give enough credit to is the amount of "hits" Benning has on his draft record. People are furious when Benning trades away first round picks but I would be furious if he was drafting Cody Hodgson, Patrick White, Jordan Schroeder, Niklas Jensen, and Brendan Gaunce. When you draft like Benning has you can afford to trade away a few first round picks to improve your team in the short term, and the cupboards are still going to be stocked more compared to what the previous regime was doing, even without trading their picks away.

Man if people think Holtby got hung out to dry most nights, and it was all by the Canucks shotty defence and not his fault, and we give him a pass for his .889 save percentage then what does that say about Demko with his .915 save percentage. Surely he would of had a .950 save percentage on any other team with a half decent defence and be up for the vezina ?!

[SIGNING] Cale Makar signs 6 year contract
TmanVan replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
In the Ekmann-Larson trade thread people were furious when they found out a 2nd round pick was included and said what a waste of assets. "How can we throw away picks like this when our prospect cupboards are so bare!?!" Yet we have a second round pick on the brink of making the NHL after devolping for a few years and people are so quick to disregard him. How ironic! It's not about Kole Lind overall as much as it is about asset management and how dumb if a move it was. -

To be honest I care less about the Canucks potentially overpaying by a million or so for Quinn Hughes than I do the Canucks losing Kole Lind for nothing when the didn't have to. -
Hughes, Petterson, Dickinson, Garland, Juolevi, and maybe Hamonic still left to be signed. Cap Friendly says we have 18.79 mill in space right now. Hughes and Petey @7 Dickinson at 1.75 Garland at 3 Juolevi at 1.25 Hamonic at .... 2.5 maybe?? That totals 22.5 million, and my salary projections could obviously be off as well. So Holtby would have to go, and Virtanen possibly bought out, and that still wouldn't leave room for a new D man if we keep Schmidt unfortunately.

If Jarmo is ever available as a gm the Canucks should jump all over it. Picked PLD when everyone else thought he would take Puljujarvi and he was right with his selection. Then flips Dubois for BOTH Laine and Roslovic which looks great right now. He got Artemi Panarin and tyler motte in a trade with Chicago for Brandon Saad. Got Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen which again worked out great. This year he walks away with Adam Boqvist who will step in right away, Kent Johnson who might be the most skilled player in the draft, Cole Sillinger who is among the hardest working in the draft and could be a future captain, and Corson Ceulemans who could be steal. It's not his fault that Columbus is a destination that not alot of players want to stick around at, but he for damn sure does his best with what he has.

Someone like Loui Eriksson at 6 million is utterly useless once he was no longer good enough to play in the top 6. All of a sudden an overpaid guy who can't score playing in the bottom 6 is an atrocious contract. Defenceman have more value by default. Ekman Larsson just has to be one of the best 6 options the canucks have to be useful to the team.

People were arguing that Hughes was more deserving of the calder than Makar. Nobody is saying he's been better than Makar "the last couple of years" Makar just got over payed, and people are saying Hughes shouldn't get that much. Nothing wrong with that. -

What happened to Hughes over makar? Ughhh.... All of last season? I guess you missed the memo. Quinns true colours showed when he lost a premier shut down d man as a partner. Appreciate him for what he is, but know he isn't an all around two way defensive stud. -
I know T This gave me some Ovechkin vibes. Dudes just always chilling in the high slot while the rest of the team is doing its thing, then as soon as the puck gets to him BAM.

You mean its only a matter of time before Luke and Jack are tired of playing on the basement dweller Devils, and Quinn convinces them both to come to Vancouver. -

I expect Hughes and Petterson both on bridge deals like this, and to be fair they both seem like the type of guys that would be willing to help the team. Petterson with his injuries last year, and Hughes with his defensive lapses.... I think their contracts will be somewhat reasonable, but only a few years long.
