  1. Yikes...so glad they took him over Hughes. I remember some streamers were so excited during the draft that he might drop to us but Detroit snatch him right before us. We keep saying take BPA at the draft...doesn't always work out cause you just never know how players turn out. Someone will take a swing at him. Still young.
  2. So while the toronto media are all over the Bertuzzi/Domi signings today, I'm curious what are the realistic scenarios here for Leafs to be cap compliant before the season starts. They haven't signed Samsonov, who i guess will go to salary arbitration. With the year he just had he shouldn't be getting anything lower than 4M. Buying out Murray seems to the quickest way to shed cap. It's also possible they're looking to move him with a draft pick. If they don't want to retain it'd have to be a first round pick or multiple picks. The tight cap is helping high scoring team like leafs to sign good players who will certainly be motivated to perform on a one year contract.
  3. I'm interested to know how much they plan to resign Samsonov at, assuming they want him back. He had a good year for them and they might need to go arbitration to get a deal done.
  4. And I thought it was already crazy that they gave Bertuzzi 5.5M. It seems likely Nylander will be the odd man out.
  5. He has some good takes at times, but I didn't like his segment here. We already traded for Hronek giving up two early round picks in a deep draft. Does he want Allvin to trade away our first and second rounders for the next decade? Who's actually trading away their top 4 D without asking for a ransom? The part that infuriates me the most is he compared us to Vegas which is ridiculous. Don't even get me started...
  6. That's a great point. Allvin's interests in Cole and Soucy were reported well in advance and that's exactly how it turned out today. Such a contrast comparing to 2020 when Benning said he 'ran out of time' with his UFAs, losing both Toffoli and Tanev. This management had a clear plan in place going into the draft and free agency. Now let's see if they're able to make some trades. I won't be too disappointed if that doesn't happen given the tight cap, but I'd be even more impressed if Allvin can pull it off before the season starts.
  7. Not sure if we're a playoff team yet but I think the draft and the signings today is a step in the right direction. I am very willing to be patient as long as we see improvement and don't go backwards. The mistakes from the previous regime will take time to fix, and then more time needed to actually retool the team in the right way. Assuming we can fix everything in one off-season is just not realistic especially with the cap not rising much. Next year is I think when we should have bigger expectations. After today I have more faith in this management.
  8. I'm a bit puzzled with some of Yzerman's moves today. I guess he really didn't want to pay Hronek and rather plug their Ds spots with cheaper Ds. Not sure how Gostibehere and Holl will help them keep pucks out.
  9. Lou is betting on the cap going up so these 7 yr contracts don't look so bad. Still though. I don't know where the scoring will come from.
  10. Uh why do they need another offensive defenseman? Should be a cheaper deal with Klingberg's down year.
  11. Hmm if PA can somehow get Suter to a 1-2 yr with reasonable cap hit I'd give him a A+ rating. I don't think we have much cap left though esp if Pearson is expected to come back.
  12. Not surprised someone was going to pay him this money and term. Yea I'm happy we didn't try to do something like this. He had a good year playing with Rantanen/MacKinnon so not sure how he'll perform with a weaker wings roster.
  13. Yea i think most i'd give him a max 2-yr deal at a low cap hit. I'm guessing he'll sign with a low cap team who can offer him the money - unless he wants to go to a team with a chance to win.
  14. I wonder if PA can find any bargain deals with players who don't have a contract yet. I'd be happy with any one year show me deals.
  15. Isles is an interesting team. I don't get it. I guess as long as they play good team defense around Sorokin they won't bottom out. I don't know how they'll get past other teams in the east though.
  16. Oh so he's probably fielding a bunch of offers then. Hopefully he didn't overprice himself which seems to happen with players that still haven't signed at this hour.
  17. Sometimes less means more. I'm happy with what PA did so far. Addressed some our of needs without over commiting to anyone. If this was Benning...
  18. 7 yr? Cap hit is fine but wow that's one loooong contract for a bottom 6 forward.
  19. Cap hit is decent but 6 years is like 2 years too long. I'm glad PA didn't pay anyone that kind of term.
  20. Curious how isles will get more scoring next year, or maybe that's not their priority and they have trust in scoring more than they let in.
  21. I don't really understand what ducks are doing. That's not a cheap deal. Are they rebuilding or...
  22. He had a down year with injury problems so they're betting on him bouncing back. Makes sense though. Don't think there are better choices for goalies in the market.
  23. Hmm wonder how he'll do with a Carolina team that plays a tight defensive game. And maybe he'll get to clean up his reputation with a new team.
  24. Orlov is good but 7.75M seems steep...only 2 years tough.
