  1. Soucy is fine as a bottom pairing but I don't want the team to commit a 4-yr contract like the Poolman deal. Poolman if not injured would have been a pylon and probably bought out long time ago. If we have to overbid to sign a player - DON'T. I would try to go for 1-2 yr signings to fill the bottom pairing and you might be able to flip them at TDL for a small return. Be patient and wait for a better UFA market.
  2. My first thought on this trade is wow the ruthless Knights swing their sword again. Didn't they just re-sign Reilly Smith last year? I think he took a a bit of a discount to stay at the same AVV and shorter term. Now that they found another shiny toy they had to dump him. At least Smith got his cup ring.
  3. i remember his overall numbers were alright after getting traded to the devils at TDL, although he did net almost 10 goals in 20 games. He also didn't impress in the playoffs either. NJ is a very fast team so maybe he has trouble catching up to that type of play style? He's only 26 so if he doesn't live up to his contract they can always move him and there will be a taker with his goal scoring and willingness to play physical.
  4. I don't mind this stockpilng of D prospects...I'll say again that this will pay off in the long term for the team.
  5. Gees how many Russians will Arizona be taking..this is seriously their strategy.
  6. Sounds like a promising pick. We desperately need some of these 3/4th rounders to pan out for us.
  7. Preds drafts Felix Nilsson. I guess I'll remember that name now.
  8. If Allvin can pull this off I'd grade him at least an A- for this draft.
  9. Lou Lam just traded Josh Bailey to hawks for a 2nd second round pick in 2026 as a pure salary cap dump. Like Myers He's also in his last yr carrying 6M but not sure if it's real money or just cap. Scares me that we might be throwing away our second round picks AGAIN.
  10. i feel like Willander going to Boston U next year is great for us to see his development playing in north america. I think he's not projected to play a nhl game in at least 3 years, but who knows.
  11. Soooo...who are we targeting with our next pick? Don't think we can recoup a second round pick but happy we have 6 picks tomorrow (for now).
  12. LOL Omg I just saw the re-cap. I don't know what's worse, Stan Smyl completely butchered Pod's name or this long pause that felt like a full 5 minutes. Reinbacher probably had his butt halfway up waiting for Price.
  13. Offensive defensemen still have high value despite some deficiencies in their defensive game. They have a spot in the league so I understand why wings took ASP. I don't know anything about Bonk other than he's Radek Bonk's kid. I just know CDC barely discussed him because he's not on our radar at all. Anyway we can continue this debate, but I don't think we can make a clear verdict there lol
  14. Takes time to undo a bunch of poor mistakes. Starting with the painful OEL buyout. We have no choice but to just hope we're on the right track with this retool.
  15. I can agree that there are forwards available, but Yzerman probably chose positional needs after moving Hronek. I'm not sure who they would draft at D over ASP at that spot. I don't think there was another D discussed much aside from Reinbacher, Simashev, Willander and ASP? It's way too early to predict he's a bust in my opinion. I'm sure there'll be a Willander vs ASP thread opened and we can continue to discuss there lol. I would be more upset with the first pick if I'm a wings fan.
  16. He had Simashev at 20+ though, which makes me wonder if he missed something.
  17. Maybe Stevie Y thinks he can fix that...at 17th it's not a bad pick given they traded away Hronek. Where is ASP playing next year? For Willander, I'm so glad he's going to.Boston University to adapt to the north American ice asap.
  18. I'm just glad Yzerman didn't take Willander lol.
  19. This is so true, at least for CDC. We might have a 500 page thread just comparing the two. ASP feels too similar to Hughes. I am happy we took Willander.
  20. Wonder why Oliver Moore dropped so much. He's supposed to be a center with great potential?
  21. Very happy with our pick. I know we pass on Benson but I'm not torn about it. A few quick reaction so far: -simashev going early to AZ sucks but not unexpected. If there's a team that likes to take swings it's AZ. But I can't believe they pass on Michkov. I feel they'll regret this as Michkov will sell tickets, assuming they remain in AZ -i think it's a mistake for Habs to not take Michkov and Philly stole him at 7th in my opinion. -surprised to see Yzerman so high on Danielson. Some might be right about this player, glad he went early so we won't hear complaints about us passing on him if he does turn out to be a stud
  22. Damn it. I knew it. Someone is going to take Simashev with all the chatter about him being the best defenseman in the draft. Willander might be gone. Sighs.
  23. I think ultimately it still depends on the team's positional needs, despite the BPA philosophy that everyone preaches. If as you said Danielson is a to C as much as Willander and Simashev is to D, then I don't see why we take Danielson over the 2 Ds. We all know top Ds are very hard to come by (we paid a 1st and 2nd for Hronek), and Canucks simply haven't drafted many which is partly the reason for the deficiencies on our current blue line.
  24. Interesting. I'd admit i haven't really watched NJ's games except for a couple of games in their series vs Carolina. I know NJ plays a fast game, and I wasn't expecting a defensive minded team because they were scoring so much. And with the way they lost to to Carolina i thought NJ had defensive breakdowns. If so then maybe their current goaltending tandem will be fine.
  25. Just watched a clip of Elite Prospects' Cam Robinson on Sekeres and Price. They did a mock draft for picks 1-11. For Canucks' 11th pick, they each pick a different for the sake of being different. Robinson - Benson Price - Simashev Sekeres - Willander This is my top 3. I hope this happens. Robinson said he doesn't think Canucks will draft Danielson for the same reasons said by many here - safe pick but low ceiling and at 11th there are better choices. He also made a great point about the teams draft philosophy. He thought Lekkerimaki was a boom or bust pick last year (you may or may not agree), and that's also consistent with what PA said to the scouts in one of the Canucks videos. I'm so excited for tomorrow's draft...don't disappoint me please.
