The proposal was for Nashville to retain $1.35m on Johansen
Right. But you said Boeser makes $8 million which he doesn’t. It’s $6.65M until 2024-25.

What’s in it for Nashville? Do you think they’d be substantially happier paying Boeser $8m a year than Johansen?
Boeser actually makes less than Johansen btw so they’d be saving around $1.3 million pending any potential retention.

It’s certainly not ideal especially considering the fact we’re already over next seasons’ projected cap, but I do agree some people are greatly over exaggerating our situation. Once trading season opens up I can pretty much guarantee you we’ll start dumping cap where we can.

Glass is 24 years old and just broke the 30 point mark while playing more than 39 games in a season for the first time. He's done it once.
I don't think my skepticism towards his supposed breakout is unwarranted. Doubt it, lots of good players will be available, it's supposed to be a good draft.
If we're trading the 11OA it'd better be for more than a guy who'll be 25 next season, a guy who's put up third line production once.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say again, the only way I’m trading that pick is if it’s for another youngish proven top 4 RD or if it’s in a mega trade to move up to 1st.

Lafreniere is a 40 point 15-20 goal scorer while playing with guys like Goodrow, Chytil, Kravtsov, Motte, Blais, and other plethora of depth guys. He got 0 PP time, and was behind Kreider and Panarin on the left side. Doesn’t turn 22 until October, guy should get plenty of opportunities in the top 6 beside Pettersson or Miller.
He’s a good get.
This exactly. Stick him with Miller and Mikheyev for the year and I could almost guarantee he’ll make the Rangers hate themselves for making that trade. Another thing to consider here is the Rangers are historically bad at developing forwards.

Unreal game, Latvia were so undisciplined but such solid positioning defensively when they're standing still and wow Silovs is becoming a national hero as a kid. He's going to be the AHL's best goalie next year, probably have a Wolf/Demko like year, carry them deep into the playoffs hopefully and then he'll be ready for 20-30 NHL games the following year.
I do agree though - the way he's poised right now he should be our backup next year but no rush. If Martin and Delia really stink up the boat I'm all for bringing Silovs in.
Exactly what I'm thinking. You don't have the run Silovs is having unless you're legit.
5 minutes ago, Pure961089 said:Latvia was outshot 41:15. Silovs stood on his head only letting in 1 goal. We have a special goalie. Is Drance going to finally admit he was wrong about Silvos? Doubt it.
The chances of Drance ever admitting he was wrong about something are about the same as me hitting a 10 leg parlay.

I've def read about his interest in Carlsson, I wonder what it'd take on top of the 11th though. Top 3 picks almost never move.
I'd be open to it though depending on what it'd take.
For a guy like Carlsson I'd definitely move multiple firsts and prospects. But I'm not sure we could do that without making any prior moves. I could see something like Beauvillier, one of Höglander or Podkolzin, Karlsson or Klimovich, this years and 2 other 1sts and a couple of future 2nds getting the conversation started, which in itself is a lot.

Again, it depends on what happens with the cap. If the increase is minimal we're stuck in a place where we have to move contracts if we're to bolster areas such as D and 3C, and other teams know this. I don't think Boeser's value is as a low as others but he is undoubtedly overpaid, I'm not convinced it'll be a huge market for him. He's a goal scorer who's struggled to score despite being a productive player.
I don't think Garland's value is as low as some others either, but I do believe that teams will absolutely be looking to take advantage of us, and any other cap strapped team.
The D I originally mentioned will be in high demand due to this crop of UFA's being more on the shallow side imo. If the cap goes up we won't be the only team able to spend. I think Severson will be too expensive, he's likely the top RD option out there.
I'm not on board with trading the 11th pick at all.
Oh I'm not either. And to be completely honest we should only be trading it for the type of player I mentioned OR to move up in the draft. There was a report (rumour) floated the other day that Allvin is willing to move up to 3rd to take Carlsson. I'll find the link and post it here if I can.

Maybe, depending on the player
Mayfield, Graves, and Gavrikov would be better gets imo, not interested in Severson at all as I think he'll cost too much
I expect LA will find a way to keep Gavrikov, even if they've gotta flip a forward out to do it, they don't strike me as a franchise that's looking to rent players just yet
Graves will be very in demand imo, Mayfield maybe not as much
Wouldn't be surprised if we got none of them, which I'm fine with honestly, it might be easier to address our top 4 next offseason as cap comes off organically
We'll see what happens with the cap as that'll impact both trade and UFA markets, but I'm not interested in paying high prices to dump cap
I don't necessarily think we'll have to imo, Boeser and Garland could (should) have value to teams looking to reach the cap floor and/or find NHL quality players. I don't like the rep Garland's been getting recently. He's a proven middle/top six forward who has excellent numbers 5v5.
As for Severson, I don't think we'd be able to find a better fit for Hughes unless we make another Hronek-like trade to find one. I've honestly felt lately depending on how the draft falls we might use the 11th overall in a trade.

This free agency looks to be on the weaker side, this will be good for more in demand players, particularly if the cap jumps more than anticipated
Gavrikov, Graves, Severson, and Orlov will be very in demand if they make it to UFA, probably Mayfield too
Barbashev would be a good get but he'll likely be in demand as well and likely won't come cheap
God if we could find a way to land at least one of these guys after clearing cap that would go such a long way.

Any idea of trading Kuzmenko died the second his extension was announced, not to mention the idea of trading him at all was silly in the first place.

Damon Severson.
Hughes - Severson
OEL - Hronek
Rathbone - Bear
Brisebois, Burroughs
A full season of Hronek, Severson and a healthy OEL is a mammoth upgrade on what we had last year.

Probably won't be enough for Columbus to move down 8 spots but I do agree the only trading up we should be doing if given the chance is with Chicago. Anyone not named Pettersson/Hughes/Demko should be on the table for a package like that.

You dont think a 25 year old, top 4, RHD starts with a 1st round draft pick ?
A good chunk of Canucks fans both on here and on twitter think you don't have to give to get.

And yes, I am very happy with the trade as Hronek is a legit top 4 Dman who can play in all situations. The 18th overall pick won't even be in the lineup for 4 years...
This. Hronek is the exact type of right handed, top 4 staple we have been screaming for and to be frank the 18th+43rd overall picks is more than a reasonable package. Even though it was only three games we looked like a much better team with him in the lineup.

Why don't they like us? We haven't been very good these past two years.
May be due to us having a 6-1 record against them and a good chunk of their fan base being former Canucks fans but that's just me.
