I don't think there's any doubt that they need this draft pick to become a really good impact player in the next few years if there's any chance at contending for a cup. With the Canucks cap issues and the OEL buyout looking pretty ugly in years 3-4, having a difference-maker of a player on an entry level contract will be huge.

Does make me wonder if we’ll take a guy like Benson or Barlow at 11 if either are available. Both players don’t exactly address current needs but both have the best chance to come in and make an impact when we’d need them to.

Which again points to not the coaches fault, Management trading picks and trying to remain competitive did more to damage that than coaching did. So again you’re in no position to mock Jersey for this move imo.

So, again, why were we one of the best teams in the NHL for a 50 game stretch with one of the winningest regular season coaches ever, who had the exact same roster that Green had?

They still started rebuilding at the correct time and are finishing sooner. We were in the 2011 finals and they were in the 2014 finals and rebuilt at the right time. So let’s not ignore that either.

Again you’re ignoring the main points here. The highest pick we’ve had in that same time frame is 5th and they’ve had two first overalls and one second overall. We’d be in a much better situation if we had multiple top two picks.

He played the same structure that Vegas just won the cup with.  Vegas was just suited better to that style.

The team stank, was that partially coaching sure but the crap Benning gave him to work with year after year was terrible.

I get accused of being biased when I say a crappy player is a crappy player but everyone craps all over TG, then they crap all over the second winningest coach in NHL history because he couldn't get the country club to play hard and then Tocchet comes in and they start to break up the country club because that crappy team was not built to win.

He coached the team assembled by a man who will go down as one of the worse GMs in league history.  But must be all his fault.

I’m sorry but LOL you can’t actually be serious can you? There’s sticking up for a guy then there’s blatantly lying about how someone coached like you’re doing.

Maybe it had more to do with the crappy teams the idiot GM gave him to work with.

We crap all over anyone that leaves but he never had much to work with.

There is a reason we are working so hard to tear apart the team JB built.

Alway easy to blame the coach and people always think they know more than the coach (they don't).

Except when the better coaches in this league can work with whatever they have. All Green’s "structure" was, was sit back and hope Markstrom or whoever was in net can bail us out. You can still see the stench this guy left with this team by the way they play.

Canucksdaily reporting a crazy, unbelievable offer for Hanifin.
    ‘Garland (1M retained), Hoglander, 11th OA, 3rd and 2X4ths.
    Ridiculous crap that.
(Also that we are in for sign and trade for Barbashev extended for 8)

I like that it sounds we are being aggressive don’t believe the first though.

Besides the fact none of this makes sense for us where are you seeing this?

Edit: I might do that Hanifin deal if he comes with an extension, but we cannot be giving eight year deals to guys like Barbashev, and he’s one of the guys I want.

I'd do Graves at 5x5.  If we can't get Graves, I'd go after Soucy at 3x3.  I'd do Forbort for a 3rd or 4th, if not I'd try and move Garland to Winnipeg for Brenden Dillon.  I'd go after Luke Schenn again.  Tryamkin is also an option in free agency.  Erik Cernak is a dream.  Andrew Peeke is another.  Brett Pesce may be traded.  Noah Hanifin, Chris Tanev, Nikita Zadorov from Calgary, who have no cap space..  Lots of options to consider and we now have the cap space to make at least one move and probably two...

Go get Pesce, sign Graves and Robert Hägg in free agency

    Hughes - Pesce

    Graves - Hronek

    Hägg - Juulsen

    Brisebois, Burroughs

I like Soucy but a guy like Hägg would be a better cheaper fit for the bottom pair. All of a sudden, the defense goes from a liability to a strength.

    Jesus christ.

Management/Ownership wouldn't have paid OEL 20 million to f**k off if they could have just traded Garland for a 2nd, or for another cheaper asset.

The fact that they backed up a brinks truck to OELs door is all the proof this forum should ever need that Garland has no trade value, he has negative value if anything.

It doesn't matter if you think he's a good player, his value based on his cap dollar and term is a negative asset for a winger who was #384 in points per dollar.

Nobody is calling about Garland. You aren't getting Peeke for Garland. You aren't getting a cheaper effective C for Garland. Please stop.

Good god man what is with this hate parade you’re running on Garland recently? No matter what you say about him he’s not this bum you’re desperately trying to make out to be.

He's not on an 8 year rookie deal, and that was just an example to illustrate a real world example of the damage this will be doing to the team every single season.

Nope but he’ll be on an ELC or a contract not much more expensive than one while the penalty is that high.

Any kind of dead cap over that length of time is simply not acceptable.  No GM with a functioning brain would be stupid enough to even suggest this.  Rutherford needs to be fired before that senile dirtbag causes even more permanent damage than he already has.

Maybe this’ll be your cue to finally be a full time Kraken fan then.

Hilarious seeing people acting like $2.1 million for a few years, especially when the salary cap will be increasing in that time, is gonna cripple us lol.
