  1. There's no Jensen on the prospects or roster page either. Also Archibald and a few others are on the roster page so it's really not worth anything. I'd add that when Gaunce was drafted, he dropped to us because of an injury in that season. Since then he's really picked up so he may well not be a "poor man's" anything.
  2. Or we could end up signing him for less because he hasn't quite hit his full potential. That's how good teams assemble a dominant, cap compliant team. It all depends when he peaks and no one can predict when that will be.
  3. Except he's not slow, lazy, a diva, short, underweight or defensively awful. So yeah, just like Hodgson
  4. Honestly that vid made me respect Torts a hell of a lot more. He's being tough but he's not calling them useless pieces of crap. Not quite what I expected.
  5. In the sea of absurdity that is CDC, you truly stand out as a man who always has something to say and yet nothing worth listening to. Someone's mad that his awful threads keep getting locked
  6. The thing is, proper management of talent and motivation of a team isn't sexy. The people calling for Torts or Ruff or some other loudmouth really just imagine those guys are as close as you'll get to Emilio Estevez. They've never quite graduated out of their fairy tale world.
  7. Agreed. It's just the new buzz word for people who don't know the game and have gotten called out on blaming everything on the goalie one too many times. Now they've moved on to the abstract. "Heart", "leadership", "coaching" and "compete level" are their new favourite words.
  8. Sorry but is Florida the kindergarten or university in this analogy? What did he say btw? Link?
  9. He's no Salo now or Salo a few years ago? Because people seem to be complaining that Garrison isn't as good as Salo was at some point which is a pretty retarded argument unless someone failed to mention to me that we have time machines now. Salo was pretty garbage at times last year, had an accurate shot (though he's now got a worse shot percentage than Garrison because of all the shot blocking now), but was never all that physical. Garrison plays defense as soundly as Salo but is much more physically dominant and also has a bomb that's more dangerous and useful. Garrison is easily one of the most important signings we've had.
  10. Agreed. This is what really makes me happy we have him. Goals is one thing but a shot so mean that no one wants to block it is a rare thing in this league. Aim it at Chara's teeth if we see them in the finals and the series is ours. We also generate goals because his one-timer hobbles a member of the PK making it effectively a 5-on-3 or 5-on-2. And for those who think Salo was more accurate, his shooting % is 5.9, Garrison's is 7.4 and he's taken double the shots this season. Garrison was a serious offensive upgrade. Defensively, I've seen nothing but amazing play for a while now. He's laying the body a fair bit (seen him really handle a lot of people along the boards), and he broke up a Hall and RNH rush single-handedly tonight. Makes his signing as a UFA for 4.6 all the more impressive.
  11. If you were talking about a few weeks ago, you'd be forgiven but the guy looks more solid than Tanev now. His acceleration seems to be much better the last few games. He can pinch a bit more then still be in position on the backcheck. He's carrying the puck out of the zone easily despite forecheckers and getting up on the rush. Tanev is still a gem, don't get me wrong, but Garrison is 35 lbs heavier and is playing more minutes against more challenging competition. Signing him as a UFA for 4.6 was a steal.
  12. Don't forget his +/- (best on our team for a d man). Also I am amazed at how robust he seems. He never seems to have an off night. He took a bit of time to get used to our system but he's not suffering from the tweaked back/pulled groin/sore ankle from a blocked shot/etc. that the rest of the team is. He's working as hard as everyone else yet seems unfazed by all the action he sees. His size no doubt plays into this but I think he's got a very high level of awareness on the ice which is the big contributor.
  13. I noticed his quick wind-up too. He wound up, hit Roussel, got the puck back and wound up again without anyone on the PK having time to do anything about it. Crazy quick for such a hard shot.
  14. Last I checked he had the 2nd highest Corsi Rel on our team, and had been first since almost the start of the season. Edler finally overtook him for 1st at our 8th game I believe. I would bet Garrison has actually retaken that lead. Basically, he's a stud on defense.
  15. Each PP unit only has one defender on it. Teams across the league are playing a much safer PK game and SHGs have gone way down as a result. In response, lots of teams are putting a 4th forward on their PP. Thus Daniel Sedin was at the point during one PP last night, manning the blue line with Edler. The other PP unit had Hamhuis and 4 forwards IIRC. I think that's just a night-to-night situation as there's a lot of permutations to try out before that situation is settled, and with AV, it may never be settled. Much as I like Salo, he had clearly lost a step last year. Garrison plays the body (he squishes people more than he hits them) but he's still a 220lb force along the boards. We're winning a lot more battles in the dirty areas of our zone because of him.
  16. Are you implying that CDC isn't filled with the greatest minds in hockey?
  17. Yeah, he gets 28 minutes a night because he sucks lol.
  18. Is it just me or are there about 5 people on CDC who know what relative corsi is? The rest of these people seem content in the delusion that they can intuitively read the game without any statistical help or pro hockey experience. They might as well be saying "The Oracle on yonder mountain high hath divined that said goal in the third period lie entirely on said player's shoulders! Praise be to Allah for he giveth us this wisdom!"
  19. We've all been hurt before lolz
  20. Arneil just doesn't seem to get the concept of "linemates". He shuffles everyone, and everyone is worse off because of it. Then in the last few games he's stopped screwing with the lines, they're getting some chemistry going and are playing with a lot more heart. Schroeder and Kassian have both suffered horribly from this and their production correlates with the stability of their lines. Even Ebbett is showing far more confidence now. If Arniel was the Canucks' head coach he would never play the Sedins on the same line. Guy is an idiot and it's painful to watch.
  21. If anyone in our prospect pool was going to follow O'Reilly's path, it would be Gaunce. Can he? We'll see.
