  1. Well it's only been game 1 but same old Canucks. Lots of goals no defense. Probably could have benefitted from Horvat's faceoffs but that's about the only difference I saw tonight. If the team is the same whether it's Horvat or Beauvillier I guess I'm ok that we added Raty and a first on top of that. Myers looked really good in the beginning of the game. The guy is good when he just plays a boring low event game and doesn't try to generate or do too much. He started pinching and getting more aggressive and then started running around. Stillman is terrible. Great he got an assist but his in decisiveness and late/slow processing ended up giving up the blue line more than he had to. Problem is, that's what he is. He's a fringe 7D and that's what we are seeing. Podz has a great game. He's going to be one of RTs favorites. Watching yesterday reaffirmed we need help on the blue line Bear Hughes d combo is terrible. Schenn is the man. OEL is fine. He is honestly the best all around D man we have. Unfortunate we are paying him 7+ but he's definitely at minimum a 5+ Team's not gonna get better until D improves. Myers needs to play safe boring hockey OEL is a 5m D man and needs to be paired with a other 5-6m D and play on the 2nd pairing Bear is a 6D and should not be playing with Hughes. He should be playing with a steady guy like Schenn. Hughes is a 1-2D and needs a true top pairing partner. I don't think a Severson will get it done. I dunno maybe you really need to think about trading Hughes for a bonafide blue liner who doesn't need to be sheltered by his d partner.
  2. Pretty brutal reffing tonight. I think our teams gotta be ok with just blasting the puck hard off the glass and out when we are under pressure. Take the icing. Better than a weak clearing/pass attempt that results in a turnover and a goal against. So man weak attempts... So frustrating. Just hammer it and take your chances on the face off
  3. Well said. Time for a change. I don't care if our players are A- holes if that's what it takes to win the cup. I would like to be on the other side of having a guy like Garland repeatedly punching the other team's captain in the face with zero repercussion. We've mistaken passivity with "class" When Matheson body slammed Petey and concussed him, team took a lot of heat for the lack of response and was almost pressured to do something next game. Why isn't the initial reaction when you see your star rookie get suplexed rage? Why do you need the city to question the team's collective lack of response to do something? I feel like a firecracker like Miller can spark this team now that there is a changing of the guard.
  4. I really hope we don't sign anymore ufas... I think it would be debatable whether building around Petey Hughes Raty Podz Hogz Karlsson and our 2 first rounders this year would be called a rebuild. I think it'll take 2 years to get rid of the bad contracts (Boeser, Myers) minus OEL if we cant get rid of his contract. Once we clear the contracts we need to save the capspace for Petey (max long term deal) and our RFAs that will require bridge deals. The mandate for this team has to be no more bad contracts. If we do trade Demko, we need to get back a highly touted goalie with great pedigree on the verge of being a starter from a team that wants to contend now with Demko as their goalie plus a pick or prospect. A team like Carolina fits the bill. I think preference for management is obviously option A which is pray that Miller works out and keep Demko and build around the guys I've already named plus these 2 and Kuzmenko. If Miller doesn't work out though, there is no need to keep him as his age doesn't match the teams competing timeline / window. Same with Demko and possibly Kuzmenko. Either way, canucks need to get rid of Boeser and Myers. Garland is debatable but I feel like Beauvillier might do the same job but better. Those 2 should battle it out and we should keep one going forward.
  5. I think if team is set on a 2 year "retool" you absolutely still need Miller. You need a better version of Miller (better 2 way play and leadership) though and the hope would be that RT can get through to him. If RT doesn't get through to Miller, canucks are pretty much screwed. I think RT has 3 weeks to figure out whether he can work with Miller or not. If he can't, I see a fire sale including Schenn, Miller, Boeser Demko. If Miller responds well, I see canucks continuing the course towards a 2 year retool.
  6. Luckily, we will soon see whether this was the right or wrong move. Allvin has a lot on the line. As a canucks fan, I obviously hope he's right.
  7. You know what? I'm done dragging Bo through the mud here. I was a fan when he was here. He signed at a team friendly contract throughout his entire career. He then saw guys like Petey and Hughes getting paid. He then even saw guys like Miller and Boeser getting paid and probably wondered what the heck he was doing.... Like on what planet is Boeser worth more than Bo? Bo probably would have taken a team friendly deal if we treated others that way but it seems that we only expected Bo to be unselfish. Safe to say, most here agree letting Bo go rather than paying him 8.5 was a good move. Glad the man got paid but not from us Time to start a new era here with the guys that are left. This is the beginning I am hoping of seeing guys getting shipped out that's not worth the salary getting paid.
  8. Not if we retained like 3m this deadline. A team would take a pending UFA like Boeser as a rental for 4.5 Alternatively, he may agree to a new 3 year 4m starting next year knowing he didn't earn his last 2-3 years of contracts if he wants to stay in van We keep saying he's a good guy. I think if that's the case, he might have re-signed for less
  9. Funny thing is, Petterson in his career is a +28 and has never had a negative +- season. Thats pretty impressive and why I'd be ok signing him long term for a lot of money. Horvat during that same span is - 19
  10. They could have signed him to a 1 year...we'd be trading him this deadline with cap retained for assets then...
  11. Yeah I wonder if they approached Horvat last year around the same time as Miller and got a whiff he wanted 8.5 ish. Still doesn't excuse the Boeser contract though
  12. I agree with this assessment. The areas Bo has an edge is faceoffs, and safer decisions with the puck (less high risk plays) If Miller decides to eliminate those plays, his points totals may drop but he'll still outscore and out hit Horvat.
  13. Bo and his agent won. Pat Morris hit a home run Im sure pat will get more clients after this
  14. Its unfortunate because we rewarded Miller for the Same thing last year. Horvat saw that and did the same. Best message would have been to ship out Miller last year and tell Horvat's camp we don't reward that behavior and sign him to 6.5 x 7. Unfortunately, signing Miller to 8 and Boeser to 6.65 ruined it. Now all we can hope for is for Boeser to get traded and Miller to have a resurgence under RT
  15. Yup. 8.5 for a perrenial 55-60 PT player with slightly above average 2 way play on a career year where he is shooting at an unsustainable shooting percentage while also cheating / blowing the zone early to create offense. If you want reliable 2 way play from Horvat, his previous years' stats are more in line. This year is Horvat trying to get as many points as he can with less focus on defence because it's contract year and points is what pays. Good on him to do what he needed to do to cash in.
  16. My hope is that Foote helps Myers play like a 4.5m d man. Just steady low event hockey. We just need him to do that for 1.5 seasons
  17. Agreed. A great 2 way player who isn't just a defensive specialist will still have good +- numbers because the stat is a direct measure of a player's line compared to the opposing line. Sure some defensive gaffes by his teammates may affect his numbers but when looking in the big picture, my guess is that the really good 2 way players have a good career +- stat. Horvat by the way is - 66 and his best ever was a +3 this year and last year. Someone like Bergeron my guess would be the other way like +70 ish JT Miller is +25
  18. I believe captain embodies the culture and spirit of the team Looking forward to a fresh start
  19. I think we'll see it. Horvat being traded and now signed long term will help close a chapter and open a new one I expect Miller to shine
  20. What it shows is the spark and character Miller has. I am hopeful we see the same spark in this dead lifeless team. Horvat sure didn't help us get out of this funk either. Id rather have the one with higher skill and physicality throwing a fit and pissed off that his team is losing than the calm collected guy with less talent that just sits there with a C taped to his chest
  21. It's going to be interesting what the culture looks like after this all star break. I really hope Millsy seizes this moment and step up and do things the right way like playing hard, backcheck, short shifts and defending his teammates. If he can do that while putting up 90 pts, it's the best thing that can happen for this team.
