  1. The Tocchet interview regarding this was so bad... So much confusion internally
  2. Yeah media is definitely part of the problem here On the other hand, this also means our organization is pretty air tight. The Tocchet news could have leaked from anywhere including him putting in his 3 weeks notice at TnT... The leak probably didn't happen inside the org.
  3. I thought media reported Bo's agent's been in town for 2 days with no contact....
  4. Thats too bad. Wish he stayed. Didnt see his full potential
  5. Mikheyev, Kuz, Podz with Gonchar as assistant coach Do you think we'll ever see tryamkin try again?
  6. He's an ex hockey player that couldn't make it to the NHL... Topped out at ECHL He looks fricking smart... But that's in comparison to the rest of the meat heads running clubs. Im talking, I want a guy who is passionate about hockey, maybe even played NCAA but went to Harvard Business first and foremost for education purposes and used hockey as a vehicle to get there but rather than hockey, he scored 1580 on his SAT to get to Princeton or Harvard because he is first and foremost a smart guy. Maybe he specialized in statistics or data analytics while he was there.... Like where the hell is that kind of talent? Is that a unicorn? I'm looking for the Mike Ross of hockey ops
  7. This is where I have major problems with how sports teams are run. These guys are supposed to be the best but we have an ex nhl goalie from wayyyy back in the day as a president of a company making multimillion dollar decisions. Its a common theme.... Benning ex defensemen. Most are all ex players. Why? No disrespect but athletes aren't exactly at the top of the intelligence tree so why are they making decisions with 80m budgets? fine, we have the top 1% of ex players in intelligence who made it into the executive team of an NHL club but why the hell is the pool of applicants selected from ex players? The amount of buyouts and "sweeteners" needed in trades to get rid of mistakes is staggering. But this happens with every team Imagine I told my boss "oops" on wasting 6m, 7.3m, 6.75m and 8m for multiple years? Thats on top of all the other oops... On an 80m budget no less... Not only would I lose my job but I probably wouldn't be working in the industry as I would be the laughing stock and no other firm will hire me. Yet we take these guys and recycle them. It's absolutely stupid. I make fun of Dubas but I would take my chances on 5 Kyle Dubas run teams over 5 random NHL teams run by an ex player We celebrate guys like Yzerman and Sakic but they are literally beating up on idiots... They look great because the rest of the talent pool is unqualified. Like how did Milbury last so many years? I dont think you need an ex nhl player to run a team. You need a genius who eats breaths and sleeps hockey, is innovative in how they look at advanced stats (to back up the eye test) and is first and foremost a smart guy rather than a guy who played in the NHL.
  8. They are going for a retool against most fan's wishes. We've toiled not even in mediocrity but below mediocrity since 2013 3 GM and 6 coaches later, here we are again for a retool. Like some have said here, this iteration of the team is the most suitable for a retool compared to the state of the team when the 2 previous regimes tried (empty cupboard, aging vets, no draft picks) I will sit and watch this attempt as this is the most credible management team to take on this endeavor. Moreover this is the best version of our team to undergo a retool with some key young stars in critical positions. If this one blows up, I honestly might join some others here and go find a new team to cheer for whether it be the kraken or God forbid... The flames... . I've been in AB for almost 2 decades and still bleed Canucks. I've been a fan since the Pavel Bure days @ the Pacific Coliseum and had season tix @ GM place when it was bure and almo. Some of my highlights include watching our boys knock out the leafs enroute to the finals in 94. This ownership group is the most instant gratification child like group I have ever seen. Zero patience and just bull headed to the point where I've lost a lot of respect for the organization. Lets see how this one goes but I have a feeling most fans are probably at the end of their ropes. I know if a diehard like me is feeling like this, there are probably many more feeling the same way or have already jumped ship. Not trading Miller last trade deadline was a miss Not trading him this summer but rather signing him doubled down on that miss Signing Brock to anything more than a 1 year QO was asinine Not trading Kuz but rather re-signing him is a clear indication that they will follow through with their vision when they re-signed Miller last year which is to continue marching straight on despite the plan not looking so great. To trade Horvat while marching on with Miller, Boeser, Myers and OEL is beyond stupid but here we are.
  9. Its pretty funny that when we tried to retool we hit miracles in Petey and Hughes. Imagine it was 2 other guys here instead Wed be utterly hopeless at this point.
  10. I hope so. As @Ghostsof1915suggested, signing Livingstone would be huge. He fits the age group / timeline of what management wants to do which is get NHL ready prospects in the Horvat trade. We got Tanev for free. This could be like a repeat of that. And if we could get a great young RD back for Horvat, we've pretty much fixed the D side. I'm worried because so many things have to go right. I agree. Imagine we had Tuch instead of Virtanen.... Makes me sick.
  11. I can't see how Miller will be moved. The moment they move him, management is announcing to the world and their boss (Aquaman) that they have no idea what they are doing. Who signs a guy before his contract year to only move him before the new contract even kicks in while the public knowledge is already out on what type of offer for Miller was on the table last year... Not happening. They hitched their wagon on Miller and even if it means they are only trying to save face, they will stay hitched to Miller. They are praying desperately that Tocchet does his magic with Miller. The only way they keep Bo is if they can get rid of Boeser AND Garland or Pearson and use that money on BO. Maybe they are hoping Pearson stays on LTIR next year and they use that money for Horvat raise. I agree that they will probably let Myers' contract just expire and trade him next TDL
  12. Lol so true. That's what I'm afraid of... What this team needs to do to execute a 2 year rebuild is like sports betting when you need to hit 4 paralays to win. They need to get all of these right and there isn't much margin for error 1) Horvat Trade 2)1st round draft 3) Sign a UFA d man 4) Shedding salary (whether it be Brock, Myers OEL)
  13. I think problem with clearing out guys who aren't playing up to their salary cap (OEL Myers Boeser) not sure who's the 4th @nuckin_futz is that it'll require assets to move them out. There's also the question of finding 2 defenders that are better than Myers and OEL. As much as we gripe about them, they are the top pairing on our team. They are playing like 4m players but making 6 and 7m+. Whatever move we make to get rid of them must make sense and making sense might mean living with Myers for 1 more season until his contract expires. They may hold on to OEL even longer and then do what they did with loui and trade him with a year left with sweeteners if they see a great 8-9m D available on the market. @SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME What you are proposing is the Kraken model I think... Good structure, well coached, good balance and right culture. I dunno if we can do all that in 2 years... Barring any trades Myers and Pearson are gone after next year Boeser is gone the following year The only really bad contract that remains after that is OEL. Miller is arguable... I am really hoping Tocchet gets Millsy to a consistent 90 PT level but as a responsible 2 way forward. At that point, they'll need to decide whether to keep OEL as a guy that's overpaid by 3m or to trade him along with assets to get rid of his cap and then sign someone else for 8-9m.. Pietrangelo is a good example of someone that would have been a great pickup but had no intention of signing in Vancouver (even if we had the cap space) Even if we create capspace, There has to be a great UFA d available who is wanting to come to Vancouver. So many things have to go right in the next couple of years for a 2 year retool to work... This is scary as a fan..
  14. Thanks for this well thought out post. So would the hope would be one of the top 3 Cs from 1st round jump onto team in year 2 of retool where we'd move Millsy back to wing (have Pearson contract run out) and have the RD prospect from Horvat trade crack the starting 6 replacing Myers when his contract ends? My guess is we'd take the late first from Horvat trade and draft a D and hope it pans out in a few years? Would the addition of Severson, the RD prospect from Horvat trade and Kotka and our 1st rounder this year be enough to take our team and change the trajectory of the team to contention after year 2? Mik Petey Kuz Miller (2023 1st round C) Boeser Podz Kotka Hogz Joshua Aman Lazar Hughes Severson OEL (RD Prospect from Horvat trade) Dermott Bear Demko Is this a good enough team to start contending?
  15. Alright CDC Say I'm Aquaman and you're the GM What is your best plan for a 2 year retool and setting us up to be a contender at this point? We just signed Kuz to a 2 year team friendly deal. What are the next moves? I'm a bit of a pessimist so it's hard to see how we are going to upgrade our blue line in the next 2 years with the remaining assets while dropping heavily in offense production. Remember, we should be emerging in 2 years like NJ or Seattle this year. Any bright ideas? Is this even possible?
  16. I think we were ok with Mikheyev and Lazar because we needed help on the pk. Its apparent to me that this is more coaching than the personnel
  17. I feel like Jake's coming here. Tanev is a great story out of Rochester institute that signed for the canucks and had a legit opportunity. This group is terrible on the RD. If he is the real deal, he would probably come straight in to top 6 and even have a shot at 4D after next season once Myers leaves. We basically have no top 4 RD after Schenn gets traded and Myers leaves next year. Plus he's a BC boy. If it was me, knowing I'd have a legitimate chance to go straight into the top 6 and even might become a pairing with Hughes would be a no brainer. Luke fricking Schenn is putting up career numbers playing with Hughes. Worst case scenario for Jake is cash in after his ELC.
  18. My guess is that management gave Horvat a final offer.. They probably have a couple trades on the table and released the Kuz signing news where he takes a hometown discount to put the ball in Horvat court to say, as the team captain, you need to do the same or we will pull the trigger on a trade. Its good that Horvat"s agent is in town too.
  19. Alternatively we could have reversed arbitrationed him on the 1 year qualifier and argued for it to be lower...
  20. Do you think he can go head to head with the top lines in this league? At 9.5 that's what he has to / should be doing. I'm going to chalk up yesterday to unfamiliar coach and new system but that line got absolutely destroyed yesterday
  21. Wouldn't that actually be funny though? Show up at the next canucks game. I'll wear a Miller Blue Jackets jersey and you wear a Brock Philly jersey and we grab seats behind the bench
  22. Im with you. Hell I'll even go buy a Miller Blue jackets jersey to celebrate.
