    lol.

We'll send a clip package to any of those stealth tanking teams GMs looking to reach the basement.  Titled: The Best of Chaos Giraffe's Gaffes.

Lol he is THE best person to be the tank commander. On paper looks like a top 4 guy, 6m cap hit, 1m actual cash plays more like a 5-6D

Whoever is tanking should just put him on top pairing...

Wait, isnt that what we did the first half with OEL?....

Why would they waive Myers, who is playing better and will likely actually bring back a decent return at the next tdl

    Better?

    The dude is a disaster.

He has one solid game out of every 3 it seems.

Most of the problem is in his head though. I think he's trying to do too much and ends up running around in his own zone.

He has all the tools in his toolbox to at least do what Luke Schenn does.

Most of the gaffes I see come from him or Bear.

Boeser is and always will be a passenger who gets easy points.  Garland drives the play and forechecks like crazy.  AB is a bit of an empty uniform who doesn't really fit into the teams style of play  To me, it's a no brainier to keep Garland, and size isn't much of a factor anymore, speed and quickness are far more important.

Boesers play has improved under rochet, for sure, hopefully enough that they might actually get a decent return now.

They need to make multiple big contract moves in the off season, they can't nockle and dime it because a player has improved his playba bit.  They need to cut major salary.

Yeah I got burned when I jumped off the Boeser bandwagon during his back injury. He then played amazing during the bubble season and followed that up with another good season. He then was terrible again last year and this year until recently. Last year he was dealing with losing his dad so I gave him the benefit of doubt. He then still looked terrible this season but had played much better the past couple of months

I believe he's like 25 pts in last 32 games played and has been good at both ends. He looks snake bitten as his shot is not as lethal as before and he's missed some really good scoring chances so I feel like his stats could have been better. Brock when healthy is a 65-70 PT player. He might be capable of more but hard to give him that benefit of the doubt right now.

You're right in that he doesn't drive the play. Is a non play driving 70 PT winger making close to 7m too much? I believe Brock is that guy.

I would move all three especially since Myers isn’t going anywhere unless he decides he wants to which is very unlikely.
Really only way to clear significant cap since OEL buyout a non-starter and doubt they move JTM since they are already short NHL centres even ones that are out of position wingers.

Myers can be waived. It's a 10 team no trade not a no movement clause.

If Im PA, I would tell Myers that we will try waiving him if he doesn't approve a trade. If he's unclaimed, we will wait until Sept 15, pay the bonus and then try waiving him again. A bottom feeding team with tons of capspace will surely take Myers @ 1m cash. At the end of the day, they are getting a bonafide 5D for 1m. It really should be a no brainer for a team that's cash strapped to get a quality nhl level d man vet for virtually league minimum salary when they prob have more interest in saving actual payroll than capspace.

Also it allows Myers to approve the trade early and get his family settled in his new city rather than waiting until Sept 15 not knowing if I'm going to colombus or Arizona etc. For me, if I know my team didn't want me anymore, I'd rather move on sooner than sit there during the summer wondering where I'll end up uprooting my family after school starts for the kids.

Also keep in mind that school starts late August in the US.

Is a no brainer to approve a trade in June rather than waiting till Sept only to leave for a city I didn't want to go to anyway but am now forced to.

I'd keep Garland over Boeser and AB.  I don't see much value i AB and he is looking like exactly what I said he was, a cap dump by Lou Lam.

I would keep Garland as well but we have too many undersized guys.

When the game got more physical in the LA game, it's guys like Joshua and even Boeser that played better.

Everyone keeps saying we need to add a sweetener to move Boeser while the same isn't said about Garland or AB.

Boeser has picked up his play similar to Miller.

At this point, I would move AB and Garland and promote Hogz on a 1 way contract to play Garlands role.

Boeser needs to commit to training hard this summer and keep up the good momentum he has going. When Boeser is skating well and uses his body to protect the puck, he is a good player. He will not be the guy making hits and initiating contact like Miller but he can be the guy that uses his size to shield the puck and make a play.  We need guys with size that can play. Kravy had been disappointing from a points perspective but I like his game. He is the type of player I would rather keep due to his skill and size and pretty decent defensive awareness.

I would run with a roster like this (fine tune the lines though)

    Kuz Petey Mikheyev

    Boeser Miller Kravstov

    Hogz Dries Podz

    Joshua  Aman Di Giuseppi

    Hughes Gavrikov

    OEL Hronek

    Hiroshi Schenn

    Demko

We would need Pearson on LTIR

    Poolman on LTIR

    Trade Myers

    Trade Garland

    Trade AB

How much cap space does that leave us to improve the 3C spot?

I'm not saying having Russians here doesn't help, I just hope people aren't just expecting him to sign here, because there's still a good chance he won't. There's 31 other teams in this league afterall.

Now, don't get me wrong, there's clearly still a chance he could sign here. I've just seen this same tune every year where fans expect certain things to happen and then they cry spilled milk if/when they don't. lol

Lol for sure.most recent one was BC boy Jake Livingstone. So many ppl including me thought he was coming here. But then ppl were saying Cgy was more likely as his hometown is closer to AB etc...

So much speculation and then he signs in Nashville lol

Looking at Milstein's clients, Canucks and Tampa seem to have the most high profile ones.

Signing Mik and Kuz were huge. I think playing Kravstov with Petey is also strategic where agent knows his guys will be given every chance to succeed.

Kuz got a big pay day after making the most out of his opportunity . Mik was offered a good contract as an FA. Kravy got out of a crappy environment and is being given a legit opportunity.

If Gavrikov is looking for a big pay day, best way to do that would be on a short fair deal and being paired with Hughes. One year 5m  might be the ticket to get a 7 year 50m contract afterwards.

  7. 3 minutes ago, The Lock said:

If he's available, sure. However, I'm not holding my breath on that. People seem to think that because we suddenly have a lot of Russians on the team we'd suddenly attract every single Russian out there.

Also, could Myers even be waived if he has a NTC? I haven't looked up his contract, but it might be worth looking up in case he can't even be waived.

I think someone said only NMC prevents waiving.

I thought we were stuck with a 10 team no trade list but waivers after paying out bonus Sept 15th would be a pretty good reason for myers to waive beforehand.

Mistein seems to have something going here in Vancouver. I dont think Gavi sigs because he's Russian. I think he signs because his agent is very familiar with Vancouver and can probably talk Gavrikov into it as he knows where he will slide in and how well he will fit with the team.  He will tell him he will pair with Hughes and get a massive payday in 1-2 years. Having fellow Russians on the team probably does help though

So Bo supposed to turn down that offer? not sure what the issue is?

    Yeah

If Lou had his hands tied and offered a beer leaguer like me 8.5m, I dont care that I dont deserve it or will never live up to expectations. I'm running to go sign that contract.

You guys can boo me all you want.  I'll dry my tears with crisp new $100 bills.

Same for anyone here.  If you know your employer would give you a massive raise, why wouldn't you ask for one?

I would rather see patience rather than rush to find a top 4. I’d rather see us take our time and not sacrifice picks/prospects to find an option.

Either we find the right UFA or develop within. We have so much time to make the right play, our window to win is not closing, it is just beginning to open.

Mike Gillis went all in and sacrificed so much of the future, our window shortened and came to an end quick and had nothing in the system to transition out of the Sedin era to.

Bear is a placeholder not a staple for the future. So if we play our cards right over the next 2 seasons depth will gradually move him down the lineup and either an opportunity will arise to find a legit top 4 or someone in the system will emerge.
This is not the time to rush.

Pretty sure the answer is Goldstar Gavrikov

    Hughes Gavrikov

    OEL Hronkek

last pairing will be a battle between Hirose, Rathbone, Burroughs, Brisbois, Wolanin... (Is Burroughs the only RD there?) Do we need to bring back Schenn?

Myers will need to get waived if he doesnt lift waive his ntc. Canucks will probably say we are waiving you Sept 15th after your bonus is paid and most likely it'll be a team like Phx or Columbus claiming you.  You can either sit and worry all summer or accept this trade in June and have your family settled by end of summer in the new city.

Bo was a solid worker and never a detriment to the team here. Loui was pathetic and Dahlen is not an NHLer. Not even remotely on Horvat’s level combined.

    He was solid here.

I don't really have any ill will towards him.

Personally everybody but the Islanders got what they wanted.

We got Bo during a time where he played better than his contract value and then traded him and a 2nd for essentially Hronek, AB and Raty which was a massive win.

Bo got what he wanted which was to get paid

Only the Islanders got screwed which is having to pay Bo a lot of money for a lot of years while losing AB Raty and a 1st.

It'll look even worse if they miss the playoffs

What I find uncharateristic was that Bo never said a cheeky / contentious thing the whole time he was in Vancouver and then first thing he does when he gets out is takes a pot shot at his old team which he was the captain of.  That I did not expect from Bo. I expected classy from beginning to end.  I think it goes to show that there probably was a few things that went negative near the end of his career here.  Starting from a lowball offer from management to fans calling him out for signing an offer we didnt think he was deserving of etc.  Shows that he probably wants to prove a lot of naysayers wrong.  Problem is, most of us are probably correct in thinking that this year's version of Bo was an anomoly

I tend to think if Canucks put Myers on waivers the moment after his bonus is paid, he will get claimed.

A basement team like Arizona will jump at the chance to add $6M in cap for only $1M in actual dollars. Not to mention the possibility of flipping him at 50% retained for a mid-round pick at the deadline. He might end up with a chip on his shoulder, in a contract year, and have a pretty good season.

If it weren’t for his 10-team no-trade list, I’d be reasonably confident we’d get something for Myers after that bonus is paid, even if just a late round pick. But even if we can just dump him for no cap hit, it will still be good for the team.

I didn't even think about waiving him. Does that get around the 10 team no trade issue?

They aren’t far with some major upgrades to D and their bottom 6.

We’re still a team that relies way too much on Demko. When the Flames pushed the rest of the team collapsed.

Yeah what stood out to me was when the going got tough and Flames turned it up, our bigger guys like Joshua and Miller were ok and matched the flames battle level but the smaller guys were on their heels and basically was in survival mode just trying to get the puck out.

Our defence also showed weakness during those moments and Demko made some crazy saves.

I wonder what a healthy Hronek and OEL would do in terms of bringing stability to the team...

Against playoff teams, it still looks like Demko has to have a great game for the canucks to win our at least have a chance to win. I really wish we could have seen what a defense corp including Hronek, OEL would have looked like tonight.

  13. Game management is such BS. If they made the proper call on the trip on Pettersson when we were on the PP, we prob would have gone up 3-0 and put the game out of reach.

The refs really need to call the game as is and not worry about the score and keeping the game close. They got what they wanted was a flames comeback and an exciting finish but really, if I wanted to watch WWE, I would.

Also that non call on Markstrom in OT was ridiculous. Even Petterson saw that 150ft away standing next to the other ref (even if the first ref was blocked by Markstrom)

He reminds me of Joe Sakic: skinny guy who is smart, fast, and able to score in many different ways (plus, ice in his veins).

This is the part of his game I'm curious about. How is his hockey iq?

Guys like Podz, Raty seem to have it so I have no doubt they will be regular nhlers. Guys like JV never had it. I think as long as he sees the game well, he'll pan out (as long as injuries don't detail him like Juolevi)

  15. Trading Miller would surely be a step back at 2C. Yes the hope would be better future players and more cost control now but everything management has said and shown points towards wanting to be a playoff team sooner than later.

Miller has put in the work to be a reliable player at both ends of the ice.  Crazy to think he was allowed to play the risky selfish style the past 2-3 years when he had it in him to play dependable (or as RT would say predictive) hockey.

There's no doubt we need help on defence.

OEL and Myers are getting paid like 1D and 2D but playing like 4D and 5D. If they were to hit free agency this summer, OEL now would be making around 3m and Myers 1.5.  This tells me we are overpaying by approx 8-9m.

Myers I think gets traded this summer. OEL I would think would be given a try with Hronek as we would have to give up way too much to get rid of him.

On forwards, some combination of Boeser (even though his play improved), Garland and Beau need to go.

I think those are pretty much the only changes we need and then we can use the capspace to sign Gavrikov.

We need some internal promotion like Podz and Hogz and then we are set

  16. Scenario 1: Canucks beat the Flames to knock them out of the playoffs but drop down 2 spots in the draft as they overtake Washington and Det

Scenario 2: Canucks lose the game and Flames make the playoffs and Canucks stay exactly where they are in the draft...

If I had my choice, I would rather the canucks lose every game EXCEPT the Flames game but honestly speaking, I hate the Flames so much that I'd sacrifice a couple spots in the draft to bring them misery.

He sold very high on Hronek. A former 2nd round draft pick that netted him two high picks from a lotto team.

I am not convinced he sold high.

My initial thought was to look at his draft position and ask why we'd give up a 1st for him but what matters now is how good Hronek is rather than draft position.

If draft position mattered after years of being drafted, Juolevi and Virtanen would have been worth more.

The question that matters is, what is the probability that  an 18-22 pick turns out to be an RD as good as Hronek? If it's low, then that's a good trade for us. I think Hronek has been and will continue to outplay the 18-22 pick.

I'm no less disappointed in him than I was provorov.

Right but there were ppl saying Povorov should be suspended and went even as far as saying he should be kicked out of the league.

Anyway, I'm glad we're cutting Kuz some slack here. I guess it's always easier to point the finger when it's a player on a different team.
