  1. Voltaire also said "We are all guilty of the good we did not do." Provorov had the chance to do good ( showing support for a marginalized and frequently threatened community) and did nothing. And then he ducked behind his religion. So I'll go back to Voltaire: "Religion began when the first scoundrel met the first fool." Provorov is a fool who is guilty of not doing the good he should have.
  2. Did you really just equate black-face to wearing a rainbow? Black-face is an aggressive insult to everyone who is black, and indicates a lack of respect for black people and culture. Wearing a rainbow is an affirmation to the LGBTQ+ community that they have rights to be who they are. I think maybe you need to read up on what cultural appropriation really means before you start using it as a defense as to why someone doesn't need to wear a rainbow.
  3. Sorry but I don't believe you here. You got all bent out of shape at someone disrespecting a minority, so I doubt you "don't care enough".
  4. So you would be totally fine with someone saying they can't support you because his religion says he can't. I'm not asking about the event or the team. I am asking you how you would feel about that player going forward. How happy would you be about that player? You said you would assume he had a good reason; what reason exactly would be a good reason not to give you the support you said you need?
  5. Ok then, let's try to look at this through your lens. Suppose the Canucks had a Support Mental Illness night and all the players were going to wear a jersey supporting the cause. Now suppose a player refused to wear the jersey and go out for the warm up, claiming it's against his religion. How supported by that player would you feel? Because now you might understand how the LBGTQ community (and supporters) feel about Provorov
  6. I will give him the benefit of a religious argument when he refuses to play or practice (aka Work) on Sundays.
  7. I have two: Jim Henson and Fred Rogers. Jim for showing us how different folk can live together in peace, and Fred for showing what true kindness and understanding can accomplish. The lessons I learned from these two when I was a child still carry through.
  8. Why bother with the post-season then? Just have the highest points at end of season win the Cup.....
  9. That is not what I said. Sorry if you misunderstood. If Rosenbaum had better mental care, he might not have gone after Rittenhouse, causing Rittenhouse to kill him. If Rittenhouse didn't kill Rosenbaum, then everyone else would not have seen him as an active shooter, causing the next 2 shootings. This entire situation is a row of dominos that started 2 nights prior with the death of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha cop. I've already said I believe Rittenhouse to be guilty. He should not have been there playing soldier. And yeah, maybe if Rittenhouse had been brought up with more empathy for other human beings, he wouldn't have been there to begin with; ergo, the murders would not have happened. At the very least, they would not have been caused by him
  10. You say that as if Yanks don't know their issues. We know our issues and struggle with them daily. Sometimes explosively. My response was mostly to: "When you want to have a sane rational nation with just laws to speak of get back to me". The implication there is that Canada is a sane rational nation with just laws. My reply was more about stones and glass houses.... For the record, I believe Rittenhouse is guilty. This trial is a result of three American failings: 1) A history of oppression against black people that led to yet another shooting of a black man by a white police officer; 2) An often grossly misunderstood idea of the 2nd Amendment, coupled with sometimes poorly written gun laws; and 3) A terrible (some would say non-existent) capacity for dealing with mental health issues. If Rosenbaum had been better cared for mentally, he would not have gone after Rittenhouse and that first event in a chain of terrible events never would have happened on that night.
  11. Is America perfect? No Does America strive to be better? Yes, otherwise the protest that Rittenhouse was at never would have happened Is America succeeding at being better? Again, yes. Slowly (glacially it seems at times), but yes Is this case a clusterf*** of epic proportions? Yes; and sometimes that happens, even in "sane, rational" nations However, you cannot speak of Canada as being perfect either. Or are you going to state there is no racism/sexism/homophobia in Canada? That there are no systems in place that are racist/sexist/homophobic? That absolutely no one in Canada got away with something horrible and/or had a sympathetic judge? Because, sadly at times, Law and Justice do not equate; even in large powerful nations
