Green Building
Ohhh, just checked out the Reggie Watts at the top now. Pretty damn entertaining is right. Love this thread, so much to explore. So that's the same guy? Cool indeed (and great hair). Maktub was a band he used to be a part of. They couldn't find a label to sign them to a record deal because music execs didn't know how to define his genre, not because they didn't like his music. They couldn't market the band in a traditional and exploitative sense I suppose. Reggie ended up leaving to pursue his solo act shortly afterwards. Link to comment
Gross-Misconduct
Isn't it funny how this genre rocked the 80's, disappeared forever in the 90's, only to be reborn not that long after as people bean to appreciate it? First thing I thought of was Knight Rider for some reason. Knight Rider (the show, the car, the music, Hasselhoff) is one of the themes in the 80s revival. Some very talented artists produce music in this scene which encompasses synthwave, outrun electro, synthpop, retro-future, retrowave, etc... To me, the beauty of the scene is not only the great music, but the rules. There are no rules. In fact creating music inspired by 80s synth today is great cause modern technology can be mixed with 80s technology to get a fantastic sound. This sums it up perfectly "Future Synth (aka Neo-Noir, aka Synthwave, aka Outrun, etc) is retro by nature. It's the music that comes from the future the 80s imagined." Link to comment

otherwise
That was pretty cool. Good to see some artists are trying to keep rock n roll alive instead of the corporate BS thats everywhere now. yeah, I think some of his album is supposed to be a bit experimental but overall NG just writes great music. I heard the next single is supposed to have Johnny Marr on it. a throwback.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_e5s_iaHAg 1 Link to comment

GLASSJAW
considering his output, it's really strange to think that ian curtis killed himself when he was only 23 not the best lyricist of all time, but certainly blows all the phony rock depressives out of the water 1 Link to comment
