Sweetpotato
After seeing how well many of the goalies play, I think we should go back to the old days and make the goalies have smaller pads which can increase the scoring chances of players such as Burrows. And the Refs suck too.
goalie13
You could blindfold the goalies, that would really increase scoring! What's wrong with having great goaltenders and goals being hard to come by? It would be better if they made the ice bigger to increase the chances instead of simply making the goalie gear smaller so that less skilled players can score easier. The Situation
I would rather they increase the size of the nets. It would make for more scoring and more amusing games.
elvis15
Here's an idea, how about the referees call penalties when they should. I've heard decreasing the clutching and grabbing makes it easier for skilled players to score. Letting the players play apparently makes for low scoring games. La Mauviette75
there's enough scoring in the NHL, so no. having smaller pads wouldn't increase scoring chances of players such as Burrows. it might increase the number of times they score on those scoring chances, but i'd rather reward skill than bad shots. Zamboni_14
smaller pads wouldn't matter a whole lot (believe it or not.) Goalies today are overall better and smarter (as are the coaches.) If you decrease sizes by 1 inch, it's not going to suddenly increase scoring by 2x (which is what people are looking for... they want to see teams score 3-4 goals per game on average.) The best way to improve scoring (IMO) is make the net about 6" TALLER. What's the biggest change in goalie philosophy? Dropping down is "ok." Yes, go from 4' to 4'6"! That little change, would be HUGE because goalies wouldn't be able to "reach up" that far after they drop to the ice. Plus, it would allow players to "deflect" the puck at a slightly higher height. GototheFlamestotheGo
I personally wouldn't mind the equipment being made a bit smaller as long as they don't sacrifice protection in any way. Especially the chest protectors a little smaller. Far too many goalies just wear large equipment and play this boring blocking style which, while effective, takes a lot of the athleticism out of the art of goaltending in my opinion. Smaller equipment will force goalies to not just rely on their equipment and covering angles but will make them be more active with their hands and challenge more. Things like footspeed and reflexes will become mroe important than simply inflating like a puffer fish (Reimer comes to mind immediately).

Denguin
Goalies spend several years learning the parameters of the net and their pads. There would be a lot of outrage if either were to be changed.

ace_blazer
Pucks freaking hurt. If you want the goalies to have smaller pads, then get rid of composite sticks.
Zamboni_14
Well that'd solve the Luongo vs. Schneider issue at least I think Lu's said he'd stop playing in the NHL if they ever increased the size of the nets.
