cap rises: the implications for the Canucks

For 2012-13, the NHL cap will be $70.2m. The minimum will be $54.2m. The Canucks currently stand at $56.7m. They are in a position to go after free agents in an aggressive manner.

The Panthers are at $40.6m. They need to add salary, making them a good destination for someone with a $5.33m cap hit. It is hard to see any of the other teams that need to add salary (Edmonton, Winnipeg, NJ, St. Louis, Dallas, Anaheim, Phoenix, Colorado, Nashville) as a likely destination for a $5.33 cap hit. The Canucks are unlikely to send a good goalie to a divisional rival and other teams in this list already have a good goalie.
