Squeak
Also, kinda sad that, at this point, News 1130 might have had more coverage of the Wolves season than our local so-called "sports" stations 1040 and 1410... unless I'm mistaken and have been missing out? avelanch
Kassian does dirty work in Wolves' 5-3 win Winger gets physical as they make it two in a row over IceHogs By Paul LaTour, Special to the Tribune 7:35 p.m. CDT, October 14, 2012 Zack Kassian isn't going to score the pretty goals for the Wolves. But he will do the hard work necessary for someone else to score the pretty ones. Using his large frame and good hands, Kassian battled along the boards in the Rockford zone before finding Bill Sweatt for a one-timer that capped a 5-3 victory for the Wolves on Sunday in front of 5,113 fans at Allstate Arena. "Those are the things he needs to do," Wolves coach Scott Arniel said of Kassian. "For him it's not the tap-dancing, play-on-the-outside kind of game." Kassian also sent a buzz through the crowd when he laid out Ryan Stanton behind the IceHogs' goal with a crushing hit late in the second period. "I need to be a physical force out there," Kassian said. "When guys have their heads down, I need to finish people. That was the perfect location to do so." Nathan Longpre scored twice, including the decisive fourth goal after the Wolves had built a 3-0 lead early in the third period. Andrew Ebbett and Brett Sterling also scored for the Wolves. Jeremy Morin scored twice in the third period to spark the IceHogs' rally, which ultimately fell short. They closed within one goal twice but failed to knot it. "We shouldn't have let them get back in it and give them motivation," Longpre said. "We were on our heels. It's not like we were lucky to win that game, but we had full control coming into the third period." The teams each scored three goals in the final period after combining for only two in the first 105 minutes over two games. Wolves goalie Eddie Lack finished with 25 saves after seeing his shutout streak snapped at 110 minutes, 36 seconds.
elvis15
It was apparent after the trade last year Kassian had plenty of ability to control the puck along the boards, but he didn't have much success making good passes from those situations while under pressure from NHL level players. That's one thing I hope he improves upon, as well as being able to be a physical presence when possible, as it'll make him much more dangerous and likely improve his confidence. avelanch
well it was 2 hogs d-men that played on the hawks last year that he burned with that amazing 1 handed pass for the goal, so it's apparent he's improved a great deal. i'm surprised how hard that one handed pass actually was.
