Beginning on March 5, 2014, a player whose contract is expiring at the end of the year can be approached regarding signing an extension. Teams are permitted to enter formal negotiations with one player and can inquire about 3 other players regarding their contract desires before the end of the season. After the regular season ends, teams may open formal negotiations with up to 6 players, but remember only a handful may sign extensions. When negotiating an extension with a player that has played with your club for the entire season, teams may offer up to an 8 year contract term if desired.

Question.

So if we have lets say 10 UFA coming up, we can only send contracts to 6 of them?

Oh I know it will probably change again tonight, so I'm not mad at all. Just saying that if you're going to update the standings, gotta do it right is all hahaha

I am glad you caught this! I am both sorry and embarrassed to have missed it. In my defense, I was concerned about the graphics more than the update of points...lost them and had to redo each one individually...not a long time but when i was updating it was on my mind. Fixed.

You can only sign up to 6 before the end of the season, then you can negotiate with the rest.

Ok, because I read it as once the regular season ends you can potentially sign up to 6 players, but the CBA cautions that some players will not wish to sign extensions.

So in Romo's example of say 10 players up for contract, I believe you can resign 1 during the season, up to 6 after the season but unlikely. Meaning by July 1st at free agency even if the team locked up those 7 players they'd have 3 exposed to offersheets or in the case of UFA's better contracts.

Not a fan of having any form of restriction placed when it comes to resigning RFA's, that makes no sense and irl there is very rarely any RFA's that leave their current system and team.

Maybe some clarity is needed or perhaps I read this wrong.

Assignment: Colton Sceviour has been sent down to the Connecticut Whale by the New York Rangers.

Presumably this will be to make room for the upcoming trade announcement, rumoured to involve a 3 player for 3 player swap which includes Luca Sbisa...more to follow.

I am with you on the RFA thing...but I suspect that isn't what is meant, I think its meant to be UFA's not just FA's in general which is restricted, but I am not sure either, just guessing.

1 RFA and 1 UFA before trading deadline.

up to 5 more before end of season.

Rest from end of regular season to July 1.

( same as it's always been)
