[Waivers] VAN Claims Ryan Stanton

The market has a lot to do with reputation. Bieksa will have the higher stock, not because he is better. It's because he's had 40+ point seasons before. Though, his offensive game has taken a dive the past 2 seasons, but it's mainly because there are better options than him, like Garrison. He's a veteran.

Tanev , until he proves that he can put up points will be a defensive defense man, which usually gets paid a lot less. Gotta compare him to a Ladislav Smid or a Niklas Grossman. For the minutes he can provide, and there's a little upside there, there will be a fair deal with him on the table. Tanev clearly isn't going to make Bieksa money.

Give Tanev an 2.5M+ extension if you have to, and let Stanton and Corrado move their way onto the lineup.

The only problem is that Bieksa has a NTC and the Canucks team is still lacking a real puck moving defense man.

Team has been missing a puck moving defense man, a top six forward, and a 3rd line center for the last few seasons now. Team also has little to no direction, and everything is kind of mixed. Teams not fast, not tough, and not nearly skilled enough. It has bits of everything though.

I don't think it's fair to say Bieksa only brings fighting to the table. There's also his leadership and his offensive contributions, although his forays into the offensive zone often lead to 2 on 1s against (like tonight on the Vanek 'goal').

But I do think if we're in a position to trade a defenceman at the deadline, which obviously depends on innumerable factors, it'll be between Bieksa and Tanev. Could just be a matter of who's stock is highest by then.
