Its not tho because its Tallon trying to fix what should be a better team. If they were hardcore rebuilding it has more value to the GM.

If your point is another team can offer more for sure. But thats an overpayment. This is fair value you guys just had hard ons for Dahlen.

If it was Dahlen 2nd and a 4th ud all be salty its too much

First off kudos for making a thread that has some legs, it’s not easy making a proposal and most posters stay away after a few try’s and the burning responses.  Tanev to TO gets the trophy for most threads the past few years, should have its own file.    My intention was to show the value the 13th overall has had the past thirty plus years.  A lot of decent to excellent players and just at a quick glance one could guess there is an 80% or so success rate at getting a roster player that will get at least two contracts.  This is a much higher ratio than second rounders, and won’t even comment on fourth rounders as they rarely compare.   If you had a few more shots at it in the second round maybe a GM would go for a deal like this, maybe three seconds and a B level prospect like Lind would get them interested...probably not though.

Make another proposal to pry a first rounder or maybe a second off a team that’s in need of something to keep relevant or to add to their roster because they suck and have a lot of picks (OTT comes to mind).    The guys we have to trade are limited, Sutter is virtually untradeable now, Tanev stock is so low now a second might be the best we could do, he’s at the point we are better off keeping him and hoping for a solid and healthy year and then maybe do something next TDL.   Every team has their own cap issues and number of contracts to deal with which makes sending quantities for quality almost impossible.

Someone should also also make a post just to provide some insight into what has happened in the past and how there are some unwritten rules when it comes to trading, like inter division trades are very rare when it comes to medium to high profile trades.  Steve Staois just might be the biggest trade we’ve ever made to EDM for example.   So NO we are NOT getting their 8th overall this year.

Florida is a relevant trading partner we’ve made some of our bigger trades with them (Bure) in the past and more recently a minor/medium trade with McAan and picks for Guddy.    What exactly do they need though and can we provide it?

We are still rebuilding so adding picks would be great, but we don’t have anyone left to trade unless we are going to start trading our best prospects which is counterintuitive.   They are developing and close where as  18 year olds are mostly not ready.   And even if we floated OJ would anyone take him for their first?  Doubtful, his stock is lower than Puljajarvis around the league and would we trade our first for him?  Not a chance, same with this years Stanley Cup winner who’s pick isn’t much better than a early second.

Ive seen some posts that list half our roster for sale for picks, and what round they feel some team would give for them.   Granlund a 3rd rounder for example.  First off which team doesn’t have a couple Granlund types already on their roster, and secondly most 3rd rounders never play a game in the NHL.   Or Schaller for a 6th. What team would even want him?  We could waive him and he’d most likely get through.

Realism should always be considered when making a thread or you will get butchered by the CDC, and rightly so.  Ask yourself if you were the other teams GM would you do it?

edit:  as an aside we got a 4th rounder for Erhoff.  That’s the market and he was still relevant.

To FLA

Linus Karlson

2nd 2019

4th 2019

Van

13th overall Pick

Our only blockbuster trading partner.....

Does FLA need another tween pick? I think they could let it walk for assets. Plus maybe feel bad for us since its our draft. Can we pry it for cheap?

Then flip 2 picks and a blue chip for higher or another player

Looks like you don't even have to be the Canucks GM to be giving away seconds like they were candy............................................................................... :P

                                           regards,  G.
