Popular Post Caboose
Nashville Predators Season in Review: Team Awards: MVP: Spoiler 2007-08 - Paul Kariya 2006-07 - Kimmo Timonen Best Defenceman: Spoiler 2007-08 - Tomas Kaberle 2006-07 - Kimmo Timonen Unsung Hero: Spoiler 2007-08 - Lee Stempniak 2006-07 - Ryan Johnson Best Player Acquired from the Lighting Spoiler 2007-08 - Tomas Kaberle 2006-07 - Brad Richards Most Exciting: Spoiler 2007-08 - Marek Zidlicky 2006-07 - Martin Erat It was a bitterly disappointing end to the season for the Predators once again, who, despite statistical dominance in every category during their run to the presidents trophy, bowed out of the playoffs in the second round to the eventual cup champion San Jose Sharks. It was a hard fought series, and despite battling back from 3-1 down Nashville was unable to get it done in game 7, succumbing to the Sharks in overtime. The cap crunch this offseason meant that the Predators will be a totally new team when they hit the ice for camp in Fall. GM Caboose went into the offseason with the goal of re-signing star players Martin Erat and Paul Kariya, and was only able to accomplish one of those tasks, inking franchise forward Martin Erat to a 5 year deal. MVP forward Paul Kariya would not accept another 1 year contract, and will look for a long term home come July 1st. With Pekka Rinne knocking on the door, Tomas Vokoun's days in Nashville were numbered. The elite goaltender turned in many stellar seasons for the Predators, and GM Caboose wished him the best of luck in Florida, where he joins former Predator Kimmo Timonen in exchange for forward Nathan Horton. In an audacious 3 way trade, Horton was then flipped to Calgary alongside 2 1st round picks in exchange for superstar defenceman Dion Phaneuf. Ryan Suter, who Phaneuf was brought in to replace, was shuffled to Colorado in exchange for young 2nd line center Paul Stastny. With Stastny's acquisition, it appeared that veteran forward Jason Arnott's days in Nashville were numbered. Surplus to recquirements, Arnott was traded to his old team the Dallas Stars for veteran winger Petr Sykora. Sykora was then flipped to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2nd round pick and center prospect Ronald Hoehn. In continuing his bid to get younger, perennial All Star and 60 point defenceman Marek Zidlicky was sent to the struggling Flyers in exchange for young top 4 defenceman Alex Goligoski, and truculent prospect winger Colton Gillies. Goligoski will likely be used in a sheltered role to start his career in Nashville, but could develop into a Zidlicky of the future. Armed with salary cap space, and needing to replace the irreplaceable Paul Kariya, GM Caboose brokered a deal with the Stanley Cup runners up Boston Bruins, sending young winger Chris Higgins out East in exchange for legendary forward Peter Forsberg. Forsberg will most definitely link up with Brad Richards and Martin Erat, forming likely the best 1st line in the NHL. Younger, faster, and deeper, this years Predators squad has been completely made over and will continue their quest for the Stanley Cup. Pre Free Agency Nashville Predators: Peter Forsberg - Brad Richards - Martin Erat Alexander Radulov - Paul Stastny - Patric Hornqvist Josef Vasicek - David Legwand - Lee Stempniak TBA - Jay McClement - Freddy Modin Tomas Kaberle - Dion Phaneuf Alex Goligoski - Shea Weber Greg Zanon - Kevin Klein Jan Hejda, Janne Niskala Pekka Rinne TBA 1 6 1

Very happy with the way the forward group looks, defence not so much.. Have some cap space to address the defence in FA, but would be open to trading Brandon Sutter (8.0B) for a similar defender!
