AV. Posted April 10, 2020 Share Posted April 10, 2020 (edited) On the day of the trade deadline, the Dallas Stars made two deals. First, we acquired forward Randy Robataille from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Jeff Friesen. We made this deal to open up the top LW spot on our AHL team in Iowa as it would allow prospect James Neal to move up in the lineup. Randy will report to Iowa but may see NHL time depending on how the rest of the NHL season goes. We made a second deal - our major deal - to acquire forward Jean-Pierre Dumont and defenceman Radek Martinek from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenceman Christian Backman and prospects Doug O'Brien and Johan Fransson. We wanted to add a veteran scoring presence to our team and this deal accomplishes this for us. Unfortunately, Christian Backman fell out of our plans this season due to the emergence of Jan Hejda. We saw an opportunity to reunite him with his old parent Barrett Jackman and decided to do right by him by finding him a home in Montreal. Radek Martinek has been placed on waivers and if he passes, will report to Iowa. We've had a strong group all year and we hope that this move provides a nice boost to help us maintain our position and contend against the other teams in the league as we seek the Stanley Cup.
