Popular Post Nail
ANNOUNCEMENT: Effective immediately, "contending" teams will now receive 10 internal or external scouts as opposed to 5. Originally, I thought the 1.5M more cap space and ability to sign grizzled vets would be more powerful, however with the abundance of cap space around the league, some more tweaks needed to be made. 1 1

Popular Post Zigmund.Palffy
EDMONTON OILERS 2017/2018 SEASON REVIEW McDavid and the Oilers Hungrier Than Ever It was one the most confusing seasons for the Edmonton Oilers last season, bringing in almost the same team with just one minor signing. Oilers saw themselves in a big hole early on in beginning of the season and couldnt get things going, nothing was clicking. Luckily, the Western Conference was also having trouble figuring out who were the good teams and bad. Heading into the trade deadline, the Oilers went 2-8-0 and seeing their playoff hopes dwindling. At the deadline, Oilers did the unthinkable and traded Darnell Nurse to their province rivals, the Calgary Flames, in exchange the Oilers got Kris Versteeg and Ian Cole. The whole league was in shock, but looked like the GM of the Oilers knew what was the problem all along. After the trade deadline ended, Oilers went on a roll, the new acquisitions of Versteeg and Cole, helped Edmonton clinch a playoff berth. The Playoffs: Oil up the Ducks..again! (Round 1) Edmonton Oilers first round matchup was against the Anaheim Ducks, a rematch of the first round of playoffs in 2017. The Ducks were the heavily favorite this time and looked like a team that was destined to reach the Stanley Cup finals. Ducks won the season series 3-1-1 as well. This team was built very well throughout the lineup by Anaheim Ducks GM. But, the Oilers know how to play very well against the Ducks when it counts! The Oilers beat the Ducks in 6 games (4-2 series) again. The Oilers didnt look back and wanted to get revenge against the San Jose Sharks from last years playoffs. The Playoffs: Oil Leak in the Ocean..Sharks Beached (Round 2) Ahh yes, the San Jose Sharks vs the Edmonton Oilers rivalry, I say always gets chippy during the playoffs. This was a rematch of last years round 2 matchup, as the San Jose Sharks were ranked #2 team in the league and favorites to win the cup, thought it will be a piece of cake going against Oilers again. Sharks always had their way against the Oilers in the playoffs, but this time Oilers were ready for them and ripped the teeth and soul out the Sharks and ended the series in 5 games (4-1). A shocker to say the least, Oilers were feeling it now and they went on to play the Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference Final. The Playoffs: Wild say no to Oilers (Round 3) Edmonton Oilers were riding this momentum in the playoffs and the city was buzzing with excitement. Edmonton Oilers vs Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference Final, who wouldve thought the Oilers would go this far? Well with the Oilers with home ice advantage this round, Minnesota went up 2-0 in the series and Oilers were down big, but they went on the road and nabbed 2 games on the road and tied the series up 2-2. Back at home, Oilers won Game 5, 5-1 against the Wild and the City was feeling the buzz again, 1 win away from the Cup Finals! Game 6, Minnesota Wild had other plans, and won a crucial Game 6, 3-2. Folks, we got ourselves a Game 7! In Game 7, Oilers went up 2-0 in the game, but Wild crawled back and tied the game up 2-2. Wouldn't up believe it..we got overtime in GAME 7 to clinch Cup Finals...this turned out disastrous as Oilers gave up a late Powerplay goal and Wild sealed the Oilers fate in the playoffs, and went on to win the Stanley Cup. All in all, Edmonton Oilers had a great season, Oilers will be hungrier than ever to get back into the playoffs and take those next step, and reach the Cup Finals! EDMONTON OILERS 2018/2019 SEASON PREVIEW Going into the offseason, Oilers were happy with the play of a lot of players and rewarded them extensions. Coming back are Kris Versteeg, Josh Bailey, Ian Cole, and Mike Green. Oilers did however make couple of trades, one of the trades were with the Montreal Canadiens, which the Oilers traded for Paul Byron, an excellent penalty killer who works hard every shift and could chip in some goals here and there. But, this next trade was based on the Mike Cammalleri trade in 2016/2017 season with the New Jersey Devils. Edmonton traded their 2020 1st for Dave Bolland, Jon Merrill and Jacob Josefson. This trade was agreed upon during the TDL in 2016/2017 season. The main player the Oilers are excited to bring in was, Jon Merrill. Merrill is a solid two way defenseman who can really play physical and chip in on the scoresheet. Now, heading into 2018/2019 season, with the Oilers are bringing back the same players, minus a few, Oilers are hoping the players are ready and hungry for the start of the season and make a playoff run like last year again. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl do have the supporting cast to do so. Also, Oilers are hoping Ben Bishop takes the next step and plays better like he did in the playoffs last year. Will the Oilers continue where they left off from last year? We will see this season. Oilers 2018/2019 Projected Lineup Leon Draisaitl - Connor McDavid - Kyle Okposo Kris Versteeg - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins- Jesse Puljujarvi Milan Lucic-Cody Eakin-Josh Bailey Jujhar Khaira-Dave Bolland - Paul Byron Oscar Klefbom-Johnny Boychuk Jake Muzzin - Ian Cole Jon Merrill - Mike Green Ben Bishop Laurent Brossoit Edited July 14, 2020 by Zigmund.Palffy 1 1 5
