NewbieCanuckFan
Former Canuck prospect Anton Rodin is an interesting case where I think being sent to the AHL *might* have been a major negative impact on him having a NHL career. His body just couldn’t handle the physical nature/state of play in the AHL & I don’t believe the team had adequate “deterrents” on the roster to help prevent cementheads from taking runs at him. He excelled overseas but still from time to time tried to make it into the NHL. But the accumulated injuries from earlier in his career did there damage I’m afraid. That, or he just had some bad luck.

Because it's the highest calibre league in North America outside the NHL. Because it is seen as a developing ground for NHL prospects. Because players entering the NHL from the AHL are generally prepared to play in the NHL. Because few of us can readily see games from the SHL, Liiga, Allsvenskan, NLA, DEL, Czech, Slovakian and other European leagues so we can't evaluate what we can't see. Because it is really good hockey and a step up from Major Junior. Because hockey involves much more than analytics, graphs, shot maps and tables.
ShawnAntoski
AHL is important cause it allows young players a chance to develope but ultimately, it will come down to opportunities given (from the coaches) and the quality of the staff.
