Did Ovi break a record? Fewer points in one more game. But is first star. Even if he did, it's a weekly award. Not an all time award. Whatever. Meaningless award in December. Not really worth getting too worked up over.

He absolutely single handedly took over that Kraken game in a way I don't think we have ever seen since perhaps Bure. I know Kesler took on the Preds in the playoffs in 2011 almost by himself, but he never dropped 5 points the way Petey did, ties the game late and scores a shootout winner.

 

That was a warning message to the rest of the league. Then the next game he shuts down McDavid and Draisaitl defensively.

 

Taken him a few years but finally Petey has arrived and should be considered amongst the league's top players.

I listen to a lot of hockey talk on Satellite radio, and often people think of Petey as a top 10 player in the league when he is rolling. Not that he is amazing in one aspect but just being a well rounded type of player

Against Seattle (a pretty good team to be fair) we were 5-0 when Petey was on the ice in 19 mins and 0-5 when he was on the bench the other 47ish mins.

 

That's some MVP stat right there.

Yep, Seattle has been playing pretty well.

Sad for him, some of the shine rubs people for sins he hasn't done which is stupid.   Ovi had to deflect a lot with what "His President" has said and done (don't he so naive to think if he said bad things about him - that bad things wouldn't happen to his family in Russia) .    We should all just be grateful that the great 8 played this long and at such a high level - IN the NHL.   A lot of other very good Russian and Eastern Bloc countries didn't have the luxury at one time, to send their best over here that is.    None of this should fall on his shoulders, same way it should with Podz of Kuzmenko's. And yes for those that are making silly comments about EP - Ovi is the first star of the week.   And if/ when he breaks Gretzky's record in a couple years  - even if he only scored one goal for the week - should also be the first star.

It's normal operating procedure to give first star or the week when a record is broken.  And it's not like he didn't have a great week anyways.   He had a typical garden variety - Ovi week.
