Sad story.  Barry Beck was one of my favorite NHL players of all time.  He was looking en route to be a Hall of Famer after his first handful of seasons in the league.  Basically started out where someone like Jovanovski peaked at...and the peak lasted longer.  Injuries took him out...another guy where you can point right to where the Hall of Fame slipped out of his grasp.  Like Trevor Linden, Barry Pederson, Tim Kerr, Wayne Babych, etc.  Local guy too...one of the best players to ever come out of Vancouver.

I remember going to see him as a kid, in the days when he and the Steamer were on the New Westminster Bruins, they were both amazing in my star-struck eyes....very fond memories, and such a sad story for sure

Damn, imagine how Curt Fraser, then Captain of the Victoria Cougars had to feel lining up against Steamer before a faceoff knowing if he could get past Stan (which he could) only to face a monster like Beck on the blueline.
