It won't be long before Ducks fans forget that there was another number 9 before Bobby Ryan. Ryan ranked third among Ducks forwards in hits and had almost half the giveaways Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry had while posting more takeaways. Ryan, a natural right winger, has had to shift to the left to play on a line with Perry and Getzlaf but it hasn't diminished his production at all, posting a team-high 35 goals last year while also putting up 81 PIMs. Ryan's not a sniper but he's got great hands

As the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton gains it's full stride, several mini-dramas continue to unfold within the Vancouver Canucks organization.
With another disappointing second round ousting behind them, the Canucks organization has rallied resources to ensure a better outcome. With additions such as Keith Ballard, Dan Hamhuis, Manny Malholtra and others, expectations for the club have never been higher (which, even by Vancouver standards is quite lofty). Though an unfair measuring
While the prospects tournament is underway, I thought it prudent to give the fandom something to take home with them. Information. On each and every prospect in the system or even on a tryout contract, I have laid out some of the general little tidbits for you to gather up and take with you to the watercooler.
I examine the forwards, defense, and netminders that are set to make their mark. While not all the kids are in Penticton to play against the Oilers, Flames, Ducks, and Sharks this week,
September is always the toughest to swallow when you're a hockey fan because it's the only month where Opening Night feels so close yet so far away as well. At least the NFL has kicked off. But September may very well be the most important month as well because this is really where teams start to take shape. A great camp from a rookie may change the entire depth chart for certain teams like Florida and Atlanta, who are desperately hoping for a gem to emerge from their ranks to being their re-bui
Behind Closed Doors: Jordan Schroeder
A weekly blog written by Schroeder, a new poster on CDC, who will take an insight look into the top prospects in the Vancouver Canucks Organization, beginning with Jordan Schroeder. In this weekly installment, interesting facts, such as the prospects' education and past life will be highlighted, along with past accolades from previous levels of hockey.
Taken 22nd Overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 2009, Schroeder has been looked upon as one of
With Ryan Getzlaf healthy and Corey Perry's emergence as the West's best power forward, the Ducks boast one of the league's best duos. What should be concerning is their defense. The Ducks are expecting Brett Festerling, Brendan Mikkelson, Stu Bickell, Luca Sbisa, and perhaps Cam Fowler, if he makes the team, to log consistent NHL-calibre minutes, but if they can't then the Ducks' atrocious 251 GA (fourth-worst in West) could look even uglier. When Ilya Kovalchuk scores, Atlanta was six games over .500. When he doesn't, they were five games under. Even Nicklas Bergfors, who averaged a point per game with more quality in ice-time since his departure from New Jersey, is re-signed, expecting 40 goals out of him is like hoping Sami Salo's body can stay intact for an entire season. The rest of the roster is filled with former Chicago depth players and a bunch of inconsistent youngsters like Bryan Little and Angelo Esposito. Nik Antropov ca
The more I look at Gillis' approach to team-building, the more 'post-lockout Detroit' it looks.
Detroit doesn't have a $3.5 mil 'shutdown' defenseman and they do quite alright.
However, they have a hall-of-fame captain defenseman named Nick Lidstrom. Now... Believe it or not, Christian Ehrhoff just had a comparable season to Lidstrom on 09/10. His +/- was better. He had more goals. He had almost as many points. And his actual defensive ability was actually closer to Lidstrom's than
Tucked away on the second page of NHL.com's 'Summit Speak' videos is a short clip of Pierre McGuire questioning Gary Bettman's stance on the NHL's participation in the Sochi Olympics. Unsurprisingly, Bettman remained reluctant to clarify his position and refused to take a stance for either side. This isn't news but there are some things that we can take from Bettman's comments.

More often than not, I agree with Brian Burke - the World Hockey Summit in Toronto that is coming to its conclusion was a fantastic idea... if you could fork over the $450 ticket price and believe that the NHL is willing to implement changes. To me, the Summit is a re-hash of ideas, some great, some not so much, but certainly by no means having a direct impact on hockey in general because of its lack of execution. Increased scoring, financial viability of certain teams, expansion, and the CBA we
As the nights of August start to show the signs of a fall chill, televised footage of pro players skating, and with Jr B leagues playing exhibition games, this means that the ECHL season is not far off. By early October teams will be holding training camps all across the continent. This is an excellent time to get involved with the Victoria Salmon Kings Booster Club. You can help on various game nights by helping to "man" one of our two table before games and between periods. Help in deliver
With the pre-season only a few weeks away, the excitement is building for 2010/2011. As always, a new group of rookies will enter the league in hopes of sticking with their NHL clubs.
If a rookie does well enough throughout the season, he could challenge for the Calder Trophy. Here's my top 5 list of the players that should be in the running.

The Carolina Hurricanes had a tough season in 2009-10, but there were a few bright spots in the way of prospects coming up
Nearing the end of the third week in August, with training camp yet to begin, the Vancouver Canucks roster is already looking different.

General Manager Mike Gillis wasted no time augmenting the blueline with the addition of Dan Hamhuis, in a very surprising turn of events at the beginning of Free Agency. Though the Philadelphia Flyers had obtained exclusive rights to negoti
This summer wasn't supposed to feature big name free agents. Marian Hossa. Marc Savard. Chris Pronger. Roberto Luongo.
Most people aren't shocked this deal was struck down. I wasn't either. When it was announced Kovalchuk's contract was going to be investigated you knew this wasn't headed anywhere good. I was, and still am, surprised an investigation was conducted in the first place.

1. Detroit Red Wings - I think they still have a lot left in the tank, injuries hurt them a lot last season, but still had 102 points! Now, they have a competent goaltender who can play in both the regular season and playoffs well. They regained Jiri Hudler and got Ruslan Salei recently. Great depth everywhere. (Point range: 110-115 points)
2. Vancouver Canucks - Offense was retained. Defense was taking us nowhere. Enter Keith Ballard and Dan Hamhuis. 3rd line was a sc
Hello, all. First off, I just want to say that I am not looking to be loved or hated and sometimes this blog will be fairly controversial and love it or hate it, I am here to entertain first and foremost.
This blog will be about the forecast for next season. No, not the weather. Rather, who has the best chance to win the Cup where I rank the teams and why they are ranked there. Keep in mind I am trying to take this from a hockey analyst position and not a Canucks fan position. Cause it's s
This is my lead article on http://www.chillerinstinct.com/ right now and I implore you to have a closer look at one of the game's first true superstars. There is a reason that his son Fred Taylor Jr. saw fit to name an entire sporting good store chain after his sire.
As I was working on a profile for Cyclone Taylor for a European/Swedish database site that I work for (Eliteprospects.com), I got more and more intrigued about the legacy of the man. Every once in a while I put up a prospect
With style and panache, Wes Goldie patrolled the right wing for the Victoria Salmon Kings over the course of four seasons. In that time, he became the team career leader in many offensive categories. Four consecutive 40 goal campaigns, a remarkable feat that may not be eclipsed for a long time. History was made with his 48 goals in 2008-2009 when he went ahead of the 46 goal single season Victoria minor pro record set by Andy Hebenton in 1954-55. In February 2010, Wes Goldie went ahead of Ryan W
When Henrik Sedin was drafted in 1999 along with his brother Daniel 2nd and 3rd overall respectively, Canucks fans and the NHL had no idea what they were getting. The twin brothers entered the NHL in the 2000-2001 season and showed a little bit of why they were drafted so high. Daniel netted 20 goals in his rookie season while Henrik bagged 29 points. These first points were the start of something extraordinary as the brothers have become one of the most potent dynamic duos in the NHL. Ever sinc

The Young Stars tournament will be an 8 game round robin tournament, featuring some blue chip talent from the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers. Dan Ashton, Mayor of Penticton, spoke to
