  1. Well you wouldn't get any top 6 UFA player for 3 years. Sooooooooo... I also want a unicorn and 1 trillion dollars. Unfortunately NHL GMs have to work within reality lol.
  2. Of course not. But as we saw this year...even being the 3rd worst doesn't mean you get a franchise player. Even after Matthews this year...everyone else drafted has the potential to be a Loui E type of player. A best case for all the guys we were looking for this year is top end 60 point player. Well we just friggin got one in his prime for free. Your argument only makes sense if we finish dead last AND draft 1st. After guys like McDavid or Matthews...the rest of the guys are potential 50-60 point players. So news flash we will probably never get a Stamkos unless we finish dead last (And then it's not even guaranteed 1st) and that won't happen. Following your path: - Trade all vets - Have our young players fail and lose - Have no one to insulate or protect them as they learn - Finish bottom 5 - Most likely NOT draft 1st - Draft 2-5 - Get a player with a top end of 50-60points - Wait 2-5 years for that player to MAYBE hit those numbers - #winning Following JBs Path: - Keep the team competitive - Add top line free agent to help with scoring - Introduce young talent into the line up at a slow pace where they don't have pressure on them (like Horvat 2 years ago vs Virtanen and McCann this year) - Draft smart and make those picks count - Stay competitive till the new you guys can take over...filling needs via trade or free agency as needed - #winning
  3. Lol so we suck for years just so those players we draft can MAYBE be as good as Loui one day? Or Be a competive team and just sign players like Loui to compliment our prospects.
  4. There are examples on both sides. With competent GM moves, good development, and some luck...either model can have the same result. Just remember our top offensive prospect right now was picked late in the 1st round.
  5. I would rather support a Detroit model vs an Edmonton model. If we ice a competitive team and things don't work out or we run into injuries...then I'm fine with a high pick. But that shouldn't be the goal.
  6. I don't understand why people are unhappy with this deal. He's 30 goal scorer who can be a decent 1st line or great 2nd line player. We have 0 young players who can fill that need right now. Rodin, Etem, Virtanen, and Bart are all fringe secondary pieces at this point. Loui gives the Sedines a great linemate or amazing secondary help in a 2nd line to take pressure off them. And realistically...what harm is having him on the team doing? All of you b1tching about not getting younger...the only guy Loui is hurting is a guy like Gaunce who will probably be the odd man out when things settle. Well Gaunce is MAYBW going to be 3rd or 4th liner. So we are supposed to not sign 1st liners so some kid can waste a spot trying to reach his (pretty low) potential? Give me a break. Also, players that put up 60 points get paid $6mill +. AND get term. So how is anyone surprised. You want a 30 goal scorer...you pay for it. And who gives a crap it year 5 and 6 he slows down!? Sedins will be off the books and it's not like we have any other top end talent looking to make 14mill then. If we are really they unhappy then just burry him in the AHL, buy him out, or trade him. You don't NOT sign a player because MAYBE one day 5 years into the 6 year contract he MAY slow down. Geezus you wouldn't sign anyone if that was the case. Today we got the best UFA available and instantly made our team better. But I guess being a better team is against some of your agendas on here right...
  7. ^this a succesful season for Bo will be 40-45 points, in a smaller roll with Sutter hopefully healthy.
  8. This kid is awesome! For players in the NHL...part of the gig is doing things for the community. Yes it's "optional" but they are pretty much expected to be involved in programs in the community. Brock, though, is doing this on his own and without an expectation of "good PR". It's great to see people being awesome human beings without being told too.
  9. Granlund seems okay but I just get the point. Hunter leaving because he is stuck behind two guys on the team is fine reasoning...but why trade for a guy who will be in the same scenario with us. We needed D and high end offisive talent. We got neither today. Granlund basically is what he is. At least Hunter could have developed into a legitimate 1st or 2nd line winger. Would have made sense to just trade Gaunce as well and get an actual high end prospect back.
