yea well it seems almost confirmed that one of them will be moved... we can forget about Gillis saying the whole "we can keep Lu and Cory" thing.

Yeah we are much better off making a trade that helps us in other areas. But of course that means for players that can help us now.

TO gets Luo

VAN gets Franson, colbourne, Gustuvson

I think you have to see a swap of picks this year for that to happen or at least Toronto's 2013 number 1.

Gustavson is a ufa
Franson hasn't proven anything
Colborne is big and hasn't proven anything.

Good deal for Toronto

Bert had 71 points in his last season as a Canuck. He was a big body with soft hands. I'd hardly call that "washed up".

Checking the stats you might think that, especially if ignoring his +/-. He was lazy and nonchalant all season, a shell of his pre losing to the Wild self. He was an annual playoff no show to boot. He's still sitting on ZERO career GWG in the important season.

However, it seems that some people think an older Luongo is worth 2x that.
After a few days here, I am surprised half of you got the anti-bot question correct to register for this site.

i hope he stays and wins the cup!!! and then i will laugh, laugh at all yoe nay sayers!

If he stayed and we won the cup, it will be because he's sitting on the bench watching Schniederman.

Yes on Kadri. I live in TO and watch the leafs alot, Grabo is a heck of a player and one of their only true leaders, the guy brings it every night...he would look good on the nucks, he is not even close to what you describe. You certainly haven't watched him much and are simply making assumptions based on the so called 'russion factor'

Deeper analysis next time son.

I can't imagine the Leafs would trade Grabovski after re-signing him.

One of the more likely ones and better ones I've seen! I'd also like their 2nd rounder too! Schenn is seriously overrated and I DO NOT want him on this team. If he has trouble finding ice in Toronto, what makes anybody think life would be any easier for him under AV?

I clicked on this thread because I thought you literally had a video of Mike Gillis laughing. The only thing that comes out of that guys mouth is "lawyer-speak". I can only imagine what it's like for his wife when she asks him to dirty talk. During his college years, He probably gave incredibly vague, ambiguous pickup lines just to keep his cards "close to his chest".

Schneider isn't signed yet and as a RFA it's possible that he gets an offer sheet that we can't match,
Lawrence Gilman confirms that. It's a long shot but who knows?.
How can we trade Lou before Cory has been signed????????

A lot of dreaming on CDC going on about what we'll get in return for Lou, I'd say!
The "cart before the horse" is the expression I'd use.

The best news would be that we find Schneider confirmed as signed with us, then we can dream about what we'll get back in a Luongo trade.

My thoughts are nothing will happen till after the draft as Cory's agent Mike Liut wants to see what free agent offers his client will get (if any) come July 1st.

A salary dump would be completely idiotic. If no GM is going to make a decent offer for Lu, then MG better not just get rid of him.

Logically, MG should trade Schneider.

And the reason there's no Cory speculation outside of CDC is because a Luongo trade would be a huge story, which is the only thing the media goes after.

Ok so MG wants to get Younger, and bigger up front.
So your logic says Trade the younger and more valuable asset that uses less cap space to get a bigger return that may or may not mesh with the team.
Keep the guy that got out played all season and playoffs, and has the label "Elite" If Luongo is so "Elite" then why is his value lower than an unproven backup?
That’s Logic?
He made a strong statement when he said he would wave his clause if it’s right for the team, why would he just bring that up out of the blue?
I find that very uncharacteristic of him. That is just not a Luongo type response.
Gillis and AV both kinda slipped up a few weeks back implying Luongo may want out. I would say behind closed doors there is a situation. Gillis is doing everything he can to deflect the notion that Luo wants out to the media.
Now they went from, we haven’t spoken to Luo to Listening mode.
I don’t think we have a choice, bud!
Cap space is the most valuable asset on a cap team, It is far from "completely idiotic" to obtain it

If we are to get bigger and younger up front, trading Cory would get us more in return than Lu would. And it's Cory's age that makes him more appealing. And don't bother with saying a player may or may not mesh with the team, otherwise you don't like any trades.

Lu saying he'd waive his no trade clause doesn't necessarily mean he wants out. It's him being a team player. You know how bad it would sound if he said he would not waive it under any circumstance?

And yes, a cup dump is idiotic because we could get a far better return than just cap space with either Lu or Cory.

Fair trade
To Van
Colborne
2013 1st rounder
2013 2nd rounder

To TOR
Luongo
Sauve

Toronto keeps all their nice pieces and we take the chance of getting a mid first round pick and second in addition to ours next year which is supposed to be a much better draft

Colborne is recovering from a wrist injury so even though he is a good prospect, I wouldn't trade for an injured player and he isn't a shoe in for next year (especially since he is injured).

Matt Frattin would be a good choice although he is currently a RFA.

So you admit that his value is higher because he is yonger, Why would any business let go of a more valuable asset, to keep one on decline.

If you say age is the main factor then Luo is getting older, thus declining in value.

I say may or may not mesh because any trade is a gamble, Cory works here, thats a fact.

Does Ballard?

Its a bigger gamble to trade a more valuable proven asset for something that looks good on paper.

Trading an asset on decline for capspace to obtain and retain players is the best approch IMO.

Keep most valuable players to have the most value in team.

We would let Cory go if it's the best thing for the team. What if we get a great offer for Cory? Do we turn it down because of his age? I wouldn't.

And Lu may be on the decline, but that doesn't mean he can't play well for us, or any other team, for at least 5 more years.

And what do you think we need all this cap space for? We have enough room to retain our current players. Not to mention that the cap goes up every year. We won't be signing some big name FA for 7 mil a year.

If we're a team that spends to the cap, then we should spend that money on the players we would receive in exchange for one of our goalies.

Burke has to make the playoffs this year. Unless he wants to see 5 years of headaches result in nothing but an ulcer and early retirement.

I think he has some NHL records to like most overtime wins, most shots stopped etc...

its most saves in a season (03-04) and most shots in a season(05-06), most over time wins with 49

So we trade Luongo, Grabovski, Higgins, Ballard, Schroeder, 5th overall for Ryan and Gardiner?

You're absolutely on crack. 4 roster players, a decent prospect and a Top 5 pick who would certainly have a good shot at being a franchise player for an unproven young defenceman and Ryan? Ryan's good but not worth that.

Gillis would be buried alive for moving so many assets and retrieving so few.

If I'm Gillis, any discussion has to center around 5th overall + Gardiner, anything else is not respecting Luongo's value in a desperately thin market.

In fact I would be inclined towards a deal of this magnitude:

Toronto:
Canucks 2012 1st (26th Overall)
Luongo
Tanev

Vancouver:
Leafs 2012 1st (5th Overall)
Gardiner
Grabovski

This isn't a rental that Toronto is doing, they need to give up assets to receive a cornerstone piece of their franchise. Luongo in Toronto will settle the hotbed in the center of our universe.

Son?

How old are you?

Didn't Grabo have a contract year and get signed to a gross overpayment?

The Russian factor exists like it or not.

See radulov and kostitsyns, the scared kovalchuck vs kings, semin, the list goes on.

I stand by my opinion and don't want grabo over an equally skilled north American.

And, any flashy Russian would look good next to any leaf. Especially when there is no chance of disappearing in the playoffs.
