Tough to move an impact player like Wayne Simmonds but looking at our lineup we felt we had to take the chance to add a top center of Mikes calibre. With his winning pedigree and leadership qualities, mike will be an invaluable part of our team moving forward.

The Avs may not be done dealing...

A full ten teams now sit at 999 points or higher, and that is a third of the league. By pure coincidence we are also roughly a third of the way through the season. I have not got that much insight to offer, but for me and my Rangers, I take some comfort in Tampa Bay, for instance, who were in 11th place in the east not too many days ago, and have surged up to 7th overall and comfortably with 1017 total points. Well done y0shi, and congrats, I would not be surprised, if the trend continues, to see you really challenge Florida and Washington, who deserve a lot of credit as well for maintaining 1 and 2 overall for some time now. Here are the divisional standings, I will do the conference standings later or tomorrow.

I a very pleased to announce that star Netminder Mike Smith has been renewed in net for a five year term. Mike represents the cornerstone of our vision for the New York Rangers. We believe we have one of the hottest goalies in the prime of his career to compliment the league leading Thomas Vanek on offense. While there is work to be done shoring up the blue line, this signing was priority number one, and I couldn't be happier to get it done. Thank you to Mike's agent for being a class act in a tough negotiation, and to Mike Smith for putting his faith in the New York Rangers

Signing: The New York Rangers have signed pending-UFA G Mike Smith to a five-year contract extension.

Mike Smith - Five-year deal worth $23.0 million dollars ($4.6 million per season).
