Poll: Shea Weber as a Canuck (192 member(s) have cast votes)

If available and interested, could/would the Vancouver Canucks sign Shea Weber?

  1. Yes. He would immediately solidfy our blueline for years to come and bring size, talent, and ferocity that has been lacking (172 votes [89.58%] - View)

    Percentage of vote: 89.58%

  2. No. The Canucks don't have either the cap space or the need for Shea Weber. Our defense is perfectly fine and will take us to the Cup Final and beyond. What's with all these Weber Lovers anyway? (20 votes [10.42%] - View)

    Percentage of vote: 10.42%

The Shea Weber to the Canucks posts have officially overtaken the trade Ballard, Raymond, and (insert player here) posts.

While the possibility of Weber leaving Nashville has hypothetically increased with the exodus of Suter, having been brought to arbitration last year seems to be the clear indicator of his intention to move on from Nashville.

His combination of size, ability, brutality, and hockey sense ensure that he will be the most sought after free agent in recent history, if he becomes a UFA or Poile decides to trade him.

The Vancouver Canucks are as possible a landing spot for him, as any of the other 29 teams in league.

IMO, in the top five. This has nothing to do with him being a hometown boy. The Sicamous Canucks?

The organization knows how to treat players and makes offers that far extend just the salary. They are a perennial contender with various award winning players. Winning the President's Trophy two years in a row doesn't hurt either.

I don't know if there is a team as hungry for the Cup as the Canucks. Having been so close and losing out does that to you.

However other teams offer just as good a chance to get the Cup.

Suter and Parise chose personal reasons to go to Minnesota, could Weber chose the same?

What do you all think? And why?

If he is avaliable we better go after him.

Offer him whatever he wants, just wait for him to request it then go make cap space for it.

I would love to see Weber in a Canuck uniform but I am also a not much of a dreamer, and the reality of Weber going to the Canucks is very slim.

Weber - he's younger. Doan, we might get a couple of years of use, with Weber, we could get a decade. Although I realize that our window is fading, Weber would benefit us more than Doan. Also, if we got Weber, we could trade one of our top-4 d-men along with Luongo for a really stellar player.

Why TowelPower12?

I explained it right in the post, we can't afford him. His caphit is going to be over 8 million dollars that will screw us next year when we need to resign key guys like Burrows at the end of the year

if we get Doan, it'll be very hard to sign Weber as a UFA next year. If Nashville does not lock up weber long term soon, they will have to trade him, then it will be whoever is willing to give up the most will get him

A single guy with a caphit of 8 million is not going to screw us. If the Canucks really want Weber, and they probably should, they could probably find a way to make that happen. Maybe even without completely selling the farm, too.

if signing weber meant losing someone like burrows, as a canucks fan, could it be justified?

No.

Weber is a pending RFA. By trading for him does NOT guarantee he will play for us. Why would you give up a top defender, top 9 forward, two first rounders and a second rounder for a player who may not even play for us?

We shouldn't go after Weber by trade, it is too risky, we could end up giving up lots and have him walk right after he is traded to us, I would much rather see us sign him in free agency when he becomes a UFA

Why is that?

I'd offer up to 5 first round picks to land weber as long as an extension (career) was in place.
With the way the Canucks have been seeding in the draft... there is no way they would get a #1 defence man who would end up in the top 5 d in the league anyways.

Jut get him.... its not a pipe dream...

Hi. Thanks for the reply .

Several things. I have tried to put myself in Webers shoes and Polies shoes. I cant prove any of this but I have tried to be as thorough as possible.

Weber would have re signed by now if it was independent of Suter. He would have re signed last year. He didn't. He hasn't re signed now .

What about offer sheets? First it has to be a team he wants to go to. its not about money. Players usually sign an offer sheet for money they think their GM wont give. This is not the case here.

So even if he finds a place he wants to play, Nashville can MATCH and he will be stuck there for the next decade. So he cant sign an offer sheet. Thats a way for Polie to trap him.

So for Polie, if he cant get Suter to sign an offer sheet and match, and he cant get Weber to sign a Preds contract, what does he do?

There is no way Polie survives letting Hamhuis, Suter and THEN Weber walk out for free. He is FIRED. Plain and simple. Its total mismanagement.

So he has to TRADE Weber. If he tries to wait for the deadline, Weber can become mysteriously 'injured' . Weber doesnt want to be traded to some team he hates. He will stall Polie off so he doesnt have to move until hes a UFA.

The play for Polie is to get Weber to sign, but I suspect Weber wont do it. Weber wont sign an offer sheet so the only thing left is to trade Weber .

But we all know Weber can apply for arbitration to block a trade for the year . So now Polie has to get Weber to agree to trade. This means he has to trade him to a team that he wants to go to.

I believe Vancouver would be on his short list.

There is NO WAY in hell Weber makes it to UFA.

So unless you know for a fact Weber doesn't want to come here, then we have as good a shot as any.

Hope this helps.

First, sign Edler to an affordable deal.

Second, trade a locked up Edler and Raymond for a Weber that doesn't want to play for Nashville.
