any updates on this story?

I definitely agree with this statement. Can't speak for all minorities but Asian and Punjabi kids for sure, I've traveled around the world. Have friends of every continent. I'm sitting with a friend right now who's frim a different background than me and we have had this conversation about this exact thing many time over the past few days. It would be very rare and it would be a drug addict scum. it would highly surprise me it was a couple of 10 or 12 year olds "having fun" or doing it for a "joke".

You're right, it would be rare, i've never heard of it happening personally.

A lot of times, a lead comes from one of the criminals being stupid and running his mouth too much to the wrong person... hopefully one of these tools does that and leads to their capture...

Coquitlam police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two jackets found at the site of a vicious assault against a 64-year-old security guard at a construction site earlier this month.

The unprovoked assault by three men against Hoshiar Bajwa left him with 100 stitches and possibly blind in one eye.

Two jackets were found near where Bajwa was attacked, while patrolling Pitt River Community Middle School on Tyner Street in Port Coquitlam, and investigators said in a release they likely belong to the attackers.

“These jackets are pretty unique when you put them together,” said Coquitlam RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jamie Chung. “We are hoping someone can come forward with information on the owners of the jackets.”

Bajwa was jumped from behind after approaching a man who had hopped the fence into the site around 3 a.m. on Oct. 14. He said he needed help because he was being chased by two guys.

Bajwa was blindsided and repeatedly beaten with a metal rod and kicked, all in the head, for what seemed to him like 10 minutes, and it continued even when he fell to the ground.

Bajwa described the three men as white and in their mid-20s, one five-foot-eight, two about five-five.

Arvinder Tanesar at Canuck Security said nothing was stolen from the site and there was no vandalism.

Police are asking anyone with information about the jackets or the assault to call them at 604-945-1550, quoting file number 2012-28845, contact Crime Stoppers anonymously, at 1-800-222-8477, go to solvecrime.ca, or text BCTIP and a message to CRIMES (274637) or go to Facebook at facebook.com/metrovancouvercrimestoppers.

Crime Stoppers also has a mobile app for iPhone and Android.

any updates on this story?

Update. teen arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Like I had been saying, most likely it would be teenagers doing this for fun.

Teen arrested for PoCo security guard beating

Now Coquitlam Mounties have made an arrest in the beating of a security guard in Port Coquitlam earlier this fall.

On Tuesday, RCMP announced a 16-year-old teen has been charged with one count of aggravated assault in relation to the attack.

Police wouldn’t say where the suspect is from, noting his young age, or reveal how the investigation led to the suspect, since the case is now before the courts.

However, RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung noted it wasn’t a tip that led to the arrest of the suspect.

He also suggested investigators are still working to find other suspects believed to have taken part in the attack.

“We’re pleased that someone is being brought to justice on this, but we’re still looking for everyone who is responsible for this incident,” Chung told The NOW, adding police are not sure exactly how many other people were involved.

Hoshiar Bajwa, a 64-year-old security guard, was assaulted by a group of men at a construction site just south of Pitt River Middle School in the early hours of Oct. 14.

The incident began at 4 a.m. after a man approached the security guard asking for help, apparently telling the victim he was being followed.

During the conversation, two men came up and started attacking Bajwa.

The Surrey resident was beaten so badly he required more than 100 stitches to his head.

He was able to provide police with a rough description of one of the suspects at the time.

A few weeks later, Mounties released photographs of two jackets found near the scene.

Chung said the jackets and tips that followed are part of the investigation.

He also said police have spoken with the Bajwa family, adding they are relieved that an arrest has been made.

Police are still asking for any witnesses with information to come forward and contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2012-28845.

That's really good news. Here's hoping they throw the book at this kid and his friends. 15 or not, if he's capable of something like that he shouldn't be on the street.

Doubt they will. A few years ago a group of teens beat up 2 Indo Canadian seniors in 2 separate attacks at Bear Creek Park in Surrey. These seniors were approximately 77 and 83 years old. Both died after being brutally beaten with baseball bats.

The kids got total of 6 years in jail.
