The players involved should just be traded back, but for next time the team renting a player should have to give up a pick or something. Renting isnt realistic (Never seen a team rent a player to another team in the NHL) and dont know why a rule is even made. Having said that, there was no rule preventing this sort of thing from happening probably since no one really expected this to happen in the first place kind of like masturbating on an airplane. On the subject of the Karlsson situation, I'm not sure what players' "rent value" would be. Probably more than the spare part that San Jose got in return, but mpt is a hustler (meant to be a complement so don't take it the wrong way) when it comes to trades so props to him on getting Karlsson for so cheap and winning the cup.
