Lui's Knob
With Kesler and booth in or out the Canucks are thin in offensive top end talent compared to LA or Chicago. If someone wanted to do a team by team breakdown it d be interesting to look at. This comes up as sportsnet panel all picked other than John Shannon to win the west (although lose again to Pittsburgh)
CB007
Without Kesler and Booth our top 6 is almost as bad as Calgary's, and that's pretty bad. But really it is the top 9 that wins you the Cup, not top 6.
canuck_trevor16
LA has the best Penner Carter William Gagne Richard Brown that is a stacked top 6 with skilled, speed, and toughness

canuck_trevor16
Ya, LA looks pretty good with Philly's junk. Crazy that Holmgren gets so much credit in his rebuild (deservingly so), only to have the players he traded go on to win a cup that same year. Hunter.S-Kerouac
My gut tells me that we will still be able to win enough games in our conference to be in the playoff race when Kes and Booth come back. No need to panic and trade one of our great goalies for pieces that aren't the pieces GM MG intends to get (prospects of value or legit top 6 play maker or both). Lui's Knob
How about San Jose: Thornton couture havlat Clowe Marleau pavelski Beats our top six easy and comparable to LA Chicago Toews Hossa Sharp Kane Stalberg Kruger Great top 4 but not top six... Say even with Vancouver ( with Kes and booth back) Edmonton RNH yakupov hall Eberle Hemsky horcoff Pretty wickedly young top talent line but not LA St Louis Berglund Steen Backes Oshie Perron Macdonald Meh to that Detroit Zetterberg Fransen Datsyuk Filpulla Brunner Samuelsson Aging ... Vancouver is better Wild Heatley koivu parise Setoguchi Bouchard granlund On par with Vancouver Anaheim Perry Getzalf koivu Ryan selanne cogliano Great top 3 but not top 6 Bottom line is it looks like the kings are definitely the team to beat, maybe the sharks too and Vancouver needs to fix their second line and bottom six scoring depth if they hope to win the west and reach the SCF again

DeNiro
Who has the best defense in the West? Who has the best goalie tandem? Offense isn't the only thing that wins you games. The Canucks system is strong enough that you can plug other players in and barely miss a beat. We've seen it before.
Lui's Knob
I would say LA has great D and Vancouver matches up equally there but last year the kings top 3 lines decimated and overwhelmed our D. If luongo stays the team has the best goalie tandem in the west
Rypien37
To be honest, I'm semi-happy with our top 6 when healthy. Sedin - Sedin - Burrows Booth - Kesler - Kassian
Smashian Kassian
We have to compare entire teams, I think our defense and goaltending tandem is the best in the West, offensively we have the best line IMO. and we do have some depth, maybe other teams have more but if Kes and Booth return to form & Raymond plays like he did tonight then I think ours is right their. I think people are underestimating us, I could easily see Schneider playing like Quick & Thomas did.

RAMBUTANS
Vancouver's top 3 is one of the best in the league. Due to injuries to Kesler and Booth, out top 6 is virtually weaker. When the two comes back and recovers, Vancouver's top 6 is one of the tops in the West. Couple this with that great D-corps and the best goaltending duo (if Lu stays for now), it's going to be dynamite.
Master Mind
If we have Kesler, Booth, and Raymond all playing at their best, along with elite play from the Sedins and Burrows, our top 6 would be the best. But that's a big IF. Otherwise I'd say LA has probably the best top 6.
Lui's Knob
I would agree but I think there's a couple 'ifs' and a couple holes for the 2nd line with the nucks but LA holds that title as the team to beat as it stands now by a margin... Will see how it goes come the trade deadline We have to compare entire teams, I think our defense and goaltending tandem is the best in the West, offensively we have the best line IMO. and we do have some depth, maybe other teams have more but if Kes and Booth return to form & Raymond plays like he did tonight then I think ours is right their. Rypien37
As am I, althought after tonight I would think the 2nd line would be Raymond instead of Kassian, looks like the Raymond of old, that would make our top 6 right their with other teams IMO. Smashian Kassian
That may be, but we have enough softness in our top 6, need some more grit and size.
