      Forum-specific Rules   07/11/2017

These are board specific rules for the Trades and Rumors forum designed to provide organization and a better experience for everyone. Please review these rules before posting new threads.
THREAD ETIQUETTE   1. Please search for an existing thread before posting. This forum can be very fast moving, so it's understandable if redundant threads are inadvertently posted. In such a case, please use the report feature to request removal of redundant threads.    2. Provide a clearly identifiable topic title so that users can readily understand the content. The title should include any and all teams involved, as well as player names or other personnel involved as appropriate.   3. All trades, signings, rumors and other news MUST include a linkable source. Simply posting the name of the source is not enough. Effort should also be made to copy and paste the full article, or at the very least the relevant portion of text from the source to the first post of the thread. Moderators may remove low-quality threads in favour of high-quality threads.

Affixed to the front of your title should be a label that identifies the type of transaction that is taking place. For all trades use [TRADE]. For all signings use [SIGNING]. For all waiver-wire transactions use [WAIVERS]. For all rumours use [RUMOUR].
For articles or news items that don't fit into the above categories, affix an appropriate label of your choice such as [NEWS], [ARTICLE] or [MISC].   4. When the status of a thread changes a new thread can be created. The new thread should reflect the change and help focus the discussion on current events. e.g. Someone may create a new thread when a rumor becomes a trades. The old thread will be locked by the moderating team.    5. Do not misrepresent the contents of your thread or post false trades or rumors. Trolling will result in a permanent suspension.

SOURCES   The following source types are considered INVALID. Any links to posts or threads on other message boards Any links to personal blogs Any news heard on the radio that does not have a link to an audio vault or podcast Any news seen on television that does not have a link to online video Any news spread by word of mouth
Additionally, certain sources may be be blacklisted due to poor credentials, clear traffic-mongering etc. Blacklisted sources will be posted here.
Thank you for your co-operation and please PM the Administrator or Moderators if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding this forum.

[waivers] Jussi Jokinen

181 posts in this topic

If we get lucky enough that he doesn't get claimed before it's our chance, this might actually be our chance to land a 3rd (temporary 2nd) line centre for nothing. Cap hit this or that, Booth's 4.2M off the books for the remainder of the season. He's still got one year remaining on that contract, but if he can get his game together again, he'll easily be worth the 3M he's getting paid.

If he even gets to us, Mike Gillis has to pick him up. If he clears waivers, then wtf..

But guys, at the same time, we've only got cap room for 500k. We'd have to make a trade or waive someone else to pick him up

So why not get a pick for him? Or a B grade prospect?

Something fishy here....is it a financial issue for the Canes? Can't hit payroll?

I believe Jussi Jokinen would be a great pick up, Canucks are looking for second line scoring and he can provide that. I am not concerned about the Cap problem. That can be worked out, send someone down, or trade someone (Ballard) for a pick. Next yr is a whole different ballgame. The UFA's, the majority will be signed (ie, Mason Raymond, Chris Tanev for starters. Neither are going anywhere, they have produced for the Canucks, the others are expendable. The Luongo situation, who knows what will happen, perhaps he's staying and Schneider is leaving, he will fetch more anyway.

He's not free, he has 3 mil cap hit. Why get a player for the shootout when we are looking to add depth for a playoff run....no shootouts in the playoffs. MG would be foolish to waste cap space on Juicy Jokinen.

The idea that he's only good at shootouts is wrong. He is a very versatile player. Great at faceoffs, can play all forward positions and on both special teams. He is a very good faceoff man. And he is a positive possession player, even while playing against very good competition. He's a very useful player, and 3 million is a pretty good price for him.

Maybe just that they don't want to take on any salary at all in a trade and no-one with the cap space and in the playoff race is willing to give up a draft pick for this summer?

he won't fall to us. Too many crappier teams out there. He'd be a nice addition for free though.

We'd be in front of Ottawa in line.

Detroit is below us and they could use a body. Maybe the Isles? I'd guess Dallas too as the are shedding bodies and have history with him but I think they are trying to trim payroll down to it's barest bones.

I don't think we are... when you make a claim, you go to the bottom of the list regardless of your team ranking. So unless Ottawa claimed someone since we got Sestito... we are behind them. We are at or very near the bottom right now in waiver order.
