Phew. Now I can laugh at how unreliable it is.

Marchand in a Canucks jersey.. the very thought makes me sick.

Yup! Just as "sick" as it made me to spot Messier in a 'Nucks jersey. Ugh! I threw-up in my mouth...again.

Can recover that 2nd easily in another deal.

This might be the best deal of the past week.

MG nailed it.

And this gives him better options if moving Luo - can take more futures and centers are a premium, so the Luongo negotiations just got that much more flexible.

Most importantly it buys him time to deal Lou. Now the offseason trade for picks and prospects seems much more palatable.

I also would not be surprised to see him go after another depth centre like Gordon or even Goc. If Roy-Kesler can play on the same line then, with Schroeder moving down to the AHL, this would give the Canucks a better option at puck possession.

Still.... we need a PP QB. I could care if he's RH, LH or ambidextrous as long as he can skate and pass the puck with creativity.

It's not the actual size of the players but it's the fact that the canucks play below there size like Oreo and such.

Well, that's a whole other issue...

Of course, it's easier to play like big, bruising thugs like Boston when the NHL has your back, instead of standing behind you with a knife waiting for any opportunity....

Every single one of them.

Thanks for the memories, Luo! :'(

Watch the TSN haters work overtime to try to spin and undersell how good of a deal MG just pulled off.

I'm loving this deal.

A player like Roy who puts up the production that he does and drives 10% greater ozone finishes than starts is one hell of an acquisition.

There was a thread recently - which Star, Jagr, Morrow or Roy would you want.

Morrow is one of my favorite players, Jagr is an absolute HOF stud, but I chose Roy, and not simply because he's a center.

This guy was the best center available - whether he re-signs or not, it's a very good risk.

He just made this team a whole lot more dangerous and balanced in their attack.

If MG can do this and add a depth C/W then I will be happy.

Let the playoffs come!

Exactly what I was thinking. I could see Roy on Kesler's wing - precisely the kind of player who could really send Kesler's goal production skyward.

I'd love it MG could also land McBain. He's reported to be available. Excellent young fit imo. Would be too much if MG pulled that off.

A Streit for Ballard swap would be a good hockey trade imo - if NYI can't re-sign him, adding Ballard would be a solid veteran for them, and we've seen the price pylons are going for - Ballard's value imo is actually very high right now.
Streit would be a coup.

I wish that at some point a majority of Canuck fans could almost all be happy with a trade. But I'm starting to realize it is not possible with the very different and sometimes sporadic thought process' that our fans have. People want the team to go for the cup at all costs, others want us to tank and get new prospects, some would like to see us keep our prospects and develop them, some like two goalies, others like Luongo/Schneider. Too bad our loyalty towards the team we cheer for cannot bring us together and make us happy for the Canucks improved chances at winning. Welcome to the Canucks Derek!

Wow, top prospect and 2nd rounder for a rental. Not sure Connauton was ever gonna get a shot in Van, but he's got all the tools.

Other than his size, I really like Roy. He can handle tough 3rd line mins a la Malhotra. He has great underlying numbers which is more than I can say for Iginla and Morrow. Gillis better be able to resign him this summer other wise this will all have been for not.

So I'm guessing Gillis no longer looking for a centre in a goalie trade. Wonder if this mean Lu won't be traded now?

Good trade GMMG,a little on the diminutive side but the guy has serious skill and the price was pretty reasonable IMO.hopefully he can provide a spark this team so desperately needs

I can't see the Isles holding onto Streit if he is going to walk in the offseason. Not their style.

It's true, based on what J-Bo, Regher and Murray went for recently you'd think Ballard is worth a 2nd or 3rd at least.

I posted before that I felt Roy wasn't the answer.... But I like the trade, hope he does well and hope he resigns. At least when kes is back we got some bonafied 2nd liners even with booth out. As much as they've impressed, Hansen Schroeder Raymond isn't a playoff teams 2nd line. His first game edmonton?

Its ridiculous how people keep trying to make beastly lines with the Sedins. Burrows is the ONLY player that has shown the ability to improve/complement the play of the Sedins. Everyone else just mooches off them for empty net tap-ins. Jagr is not a rover to get in on the forecheck for them. Glad Gillis is GM

Wow, so you mean Carter, Krog, and King didn't get 50 goals so a real hockey player couldn't? How about Burrows is the only decent player we've ever played with the Sedins for any period of time, and that has proven to be ineffective in the playoffs. At least once in their career the two best Canucks to ever play the game should be paired with a legimate first line player. Is that so inconceivable. Nothing against Burrows but c'mon already.

Gillman:

talks started several weeks ago

Dallas did not yet know then whether they would sell or not

Gillis indicated interest in Roy

Loves that he is dynamic, looks to play 3rd line center with Hansen

Can play 20min a game

Reliable player , and emotional lift for the team

Potentially changes asking price on Luongo

Mentioned Kes at wing, and played best when Sundin was his Center

Mentioned Clowes NTC... and trade becomes 3 way deal between the two GM's and the player + the fact there is an expiring contract.

Says they are not done trying to improve team. looking to make at least one more move, possibly two.

says we are better with Roy, but could change the mix further, and will comment after dust settles after deadline

Kassian sent down for more playing time. performance based economy. roster spots are not an entitlement.

Raymond injured so Sweat brought in to replace his speed

re-signing Higgins: a 7th forward. top level 3rd liner who can elevate to top 6 when needed. can play all 3 forward positions. valuable to PK, and 2nd PP. Exceptional human being, wanted to stay in Van.
Higgins left money on the table to re-sign here

refused to comment on cap room (lol)...put Booth on LTIR today
refused to comment on Malhotra LTIR status

Gillis working the phones - could have deal in place in the next 15 minutes for all he knows
Alluded to complete the roster to make a push to make a cup run this year. They are exploring all areas

......

So damn happy they're doing something this deadline. Cup or bust.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

If Gillis doesn't sign Roy then this is a FAIL. I like Roy but I like 2nd round picks in deep drafts more than rental players in seasons where we are soooooooooooo far from competing for the big prize. It's only a good trade if Roy wants to be here and signs a reasonable deal.

This deal just undercut all the Leafs lowball Bozak leveraging.

Toronto just realized it's either Kipper, or a hockey trade for Luongo.

Or they just stick with Reimer who's having a better year than both.
